Well lads winter weather is officially over for the year for 95% of us, time to get to washing. What are we>using>shilling>considering
Daily reminder that foam doesn't do anything and was invented to sell soap to housewives. If you use a "foam cannon" you are a faggot.
>>28911458it is effective at applying the soap
>>28911436Foam cannons don't really do anything.I tried one and it didn't make cleaning the car any easier. You still have to use a wash Mitt and the double bucket method.
>>28911458>>28911470Fuck you, it looks cool.
so far, I'm foaming on a prewash, rinsing that off, then foaming on combo soap+sealant. Currently using bilt hamber rinse less for the prewash but as effective as it is, it's still not worth the money here in the US. I'll pick something different when I run out. Using koch chemie NMS and it's doing well. I can do a no-contact maintenance wash every couple of weeks and the car still looks "clean with dust on it," it doesn't start to look dirty until 2 or 3 weeks between maintenance washes. That means only actually using a mitt every couple of months
I'm old fashioned, Dawn blue diluted with water in a spray bottle and a regular soft kitchen sponge, old toothbrush for hard to reach spots, and that's it. Let me guess, you need more?
>>28911490Is there some requirement to use only the absolute minimum necessary? Do you drive anything more capable than a Nissan Versa?
>>28911472Sure, but it's kinda a meme.Having to setup a gas pressure washer makes it a huge pain.Maybe an electric handheld sprayer would be easier. But Washing a car still requires physical work.>>28911490Dawn dish soap is good for removing old waxes But it's a bit too aggressive for using all the time. The PH level is a big high for paint.
>>28911436i did a two stage cut and polish with a DA buffer to get some scratches a couple bushes made then applied Adams graphene coating and it really brought the shine out. i use some soap made by them too but idk which one, whatever autozone sells.
>>28911491I only ride a m/o/torcycle because 4 wheels and a roof is too much for me >>28911492That's why you need to dilute Dawn blue with water, just a little Dawn blue goes a long way. Dawn blue is the ultimate cleaning solution when you learn to dilute it for the use case
>>28911458They are not optional anymore >foam>rinse>foam>contact clean>dry
>>28911494Do you always clean in direct sunlight? Any issues?
>>28911523that pic was out front of a persons house i was doing some work for. i do all the cleaning and shit in the shade unless its a wipe off of bird shit with some quick detailer. its too hot and sunny here to use any cleaning product without shade.
>>28911436I like the "wax as you dry" products. I have a shitbox so it doesn't have to be perfect. Gets my car looking nice enough.
>>28911521Basically what I do. Use foam to apply the soap. Foam, wheels, rinse, foam, microfiber mop for contact, rinse, leaf blower then microfiber to dry. Tec582 after a wash, turtlewax hybrid ceramic spray 2x a year. Too lazy to clay and polish.
>>28911458Foam on dishes is useless. Foam on cars is completely necessary. The bubbles create breaks in the fluid which resists flow/it clings to the surface of the paint, letting it work longer and drag dirt down with it. The bubbles create areas where the dirt can be held instead of glazing right over it. When you wash the suds away its bringing dirt with it instead of leaving deposits behind. It also is a good visual indicator of where you've already washed. >>28911436I dont get a lot of time to detail so ive tried to speed it up as much as I can:>simoniz ve52 (very similar to active 2.0)>Mckillans automatic stainless steel quick connects>mckillans swivel gun pro>mckillans 50ft steel braided hose. >giraffe tools 90ft 5/8 retractable hose reel. >matcc foam cannon>chemical guys pink stuff soap for weekly cleaning>el cheapo bucket with chemical guys grit guard + another cheap grit guard on top. Double grit guard is peak btw, keeps the wash mitt elevated when its in the bucket, and acts as a baffle to keep water sloshing around
>>28911436my wife has so much shit that our garage is effectively a one car garage in the non summer months. it makes it hard to pull the nice car out and pull my daily in for a wax. i usually just end up using basic turtlewax ice, but ill have to try the wax and dry.i go adams polishes foam cannon (i dont use a power washer so its just the hose attachment)meguiars gold class wash solutionadams polishes wash mitt kirkland microfibers meguiars gold class paste wax turtlewax hybrid ceramic if i have time, it’s kind of a pain to put on my black cars without streaksturtlewax ice for frequent washesgot a chemical guys clay bar kit for christmas i have to use this spring. haven’t clayed in almost 2 years.have tried the turtlewax graphene on my wife’s car, that stuff is hard to use. Which sucks because it was like a $16 bottle lol
>>28911777meguiars is the best
i just get my car hand washed every week or two it’s like 20 bucks and they do a better job than id ever care to + im fat and lazy + it stimulates the local economy
>>28911605Project farm tested car waxes and said that was the best. I bought a bottle and it makes my truck look nice for a solid 2 weeks
Saw a guy on the block using this.
I actually bought a foam cannon from Lowe's yesterday and it didn't do shit, I don't understand what went wrong. I could see the contents of the bottle go down fast but barely foam or soap was coming out. It was basically just a pass through for the water from the pressure washer. What gives bros? The soap, the cannon, the pressure washer, or the user? Can't figure out what went wrong
>>28911894Might be the cannon, they will come with restrictors that need to be roughly matched to gpm. If the restrictor is meant for a gas pressure washer with high flow, but you are using an electric or lower flow pressure washer, the foam will be weak. Could also be the soap, some soaps don't foam very well. Generally won't be the pressure washer itself as long as it's still working with a normal nozzle
>>28911472>anything for social media cloutfaggot.
2 bucket system with 2 sponges and some dawnyou guys with your endless products and nonstop gay shit sound like my wife when she comes home from ulta.
>>28912007It is indeed an electric pressure washer, I went an bought the Mr. Pink soap instead of the cheapest shit I had bought from the store. We shall see in a few days
My steps>pressure wash >foam cannon (mine works really well)>rinse to remove large particles >Optional: every month or so I use Iron remover at this step>foam again>hand wash>final rinse>chamois the large areaswhen I get to hand wash step, I wash all the large top sections like hood and trunk lid first since they are the most visible and then the sides of the car down to the last third. Then I go around and hit that last third down to the rockers last. at the end I also use Invisiglass on the windows and my very last step is running a dry clay bar over the dry glass. It's the cleanest I've ever been able to figure out on how to clean glass. I ahve a 2 post lift and remove the wheels to clean separately. I usually use dish soap since it's the strongest surfactant and detergent most people have.-soaps I use are just regular meguiars gold class car wash. chemical guys were goat for their first year or so and then they got bought out or something because it's shit now-wash cloths are microfibers with a higher GSM rate like 350 -I like the mequiars clay bars simply because I haven't tried Mothers or other brands
>>28912049could be user error, or just a bad ratio of product to water. I run a cheap karcher cube (with a properly set up MTM Hydro mind you) and actually just finished a gallon of that CG trash and it works fine. could also be the flow restrictor, but I'm not a mind reader, and that would only affect pressure output and drop offs, which is very obvious when it's wrong. try using more soap in the cannon, like a full two ounces in the bottle minimum, and check if there's a dial to adjust for that and crank it for maximum soap output. if you were using less, that may be all there is to it
I use like 2 drops of dawn blue in the mop bucket and use that with a microfiber sponge thing and a garden hose with a sprayer. Interior is the same thing to clean everything.
>>28911436idk man, pay someone to detail my shit I guess
What should I use to remove caked-on brake dust on a shitbox? There are some tight spots where soap & elbow grease won't cut it.
>>28912684Have you tried doubling the soap and tripling the elbow grease?
>>28911436It's time to unfuck the brakes I warped last year
>>28912754kek was that from the tail of the dragon run?
>>28911436>What are we usingRain and a dirty microfibre
>>28911436Pressure washer clean, foam bukkake with whatever the fuck car wash soap I have again, two bucket microfiber mitt grope fest, pressure washer rinse, pull clean towels across for a streak free finish, wax it again. Then it should be good for a while again.
>>28912781Weeeeeell, more from me stopping at the end of the dragon to "let them cool off", turns out that was a very bad idea.Had to climb the whole bluehills parkway before the shaking stopped, and it never really went away entirely. However, I've now gotten the hang of forcing the transmission into 2nd by using "1st", it's actually really generous about not actually dropping to 1st unless you go below 20mph or floor it too hard. And to trap it in 2nd again, all you gotta do is shift up to 3rd and right back down to 1st.Now if only I had decided to practice that little trick before toasting my second set of rotors...
I just got a foam cannon and pack of reversible wash mitts. They are pretty nice since you use both sides then turn it inside out and you got two more clean sides. The pressure washer is nice since I have low water pressure at the hose, and I am having to wash so often. My old car didn't show anything, so it got washed maybe monthly. New car shows every bit of dirt and grime, so it is washed every other week, with touch ups in between.
gonna drive the passat through the ol auto washwish me luck lads
How the hell do I wash my car at home if I have hard water
For everyone who rinses first: why? Let the soap do the work and add lubricity. Do as little work as you can get away with and your paint will look better for it>>28912072>dry clay bar over the dry glassWill try this next time, thanks for the idea. Been having issues with lint from what I guess are just old towels
>>28912927Just don't let the car dry off. Wash in the shade while the car is cool, this can involve timing your car wash. Remove or rewater liquids before they cake on
I'm waiting til the pollen dies down even though it's garage kept.2 bucket, microfiber mitt, basic car wash liquid, air dry by driving or the leaf blower.Washing a car damages paint more than having dirt or water spots, so I only do it a few times a year.
