Bloody Volvo driver edish

My shitbox had what seemed like a fairly significant oil leak but at some point the oil seemed to stop going down. There's a lot of dried oil in the engine bay. I'm imagining it's somehow congealed or blocked the leak... problem solved? I'm scared to clean the engine lest it starts leaking again. What, if anything, should I do?

Later this week I am picking my car up from a mechanic. Blew a caliper far from home and limped it to a small shop 2 blocks from where I broke down. Long story short, parts weren't easy to obtain because it's an older car, but they have been super cool about it. I feel bad that I've tied up their lift for a week. Would picrel be an appropriate thank you gift?
>>
>>28914205
they could have put the wheel back on and shoved it into a parking spot at any moment if they needed the lift. Don't worry about a gift they'll be taking it out of your ass when you get the bill, you just kept that shop open for another 6 months.
>>
About 10 years ago I lost my key, the only key I had, for my car. I had to call someone out and he gave me like 3 new ones when he sorted it out. Eventually I found the old key and reprogrammed it so it would work with the others, or I reprogrammed all of them so they would work I can't remember.
Now I have something different and again only have one key. This one doesn't have a fob or anything it's just a caveman key. Whenever I try to buy a one with a fob they're all blades that I need to get someone to cut.
However I see keys that are already cut for my old car on ebay as well as others, just none for the one I currently have.

I don't get it. What would be the point in selling already cut keys unless you can use them? Likewise, why does it seem so impossible to buy an already cut key for what I need now?

My shitbox misfires badly after the engine warms up and I don't know why. While it's cold, it drives perfectly under full power, but once it warms up it will have a rough idle, accelerates really slowly, and will struggle uphill or not make it up at all if it's too seep. It's so bad that my CEL flashes. In some cases, the misfires are so bad that my engine sounds like a lawnmower, and my car backfires.

I changed the coil pack, ignition leads, and spark plugs 5 years ago, and the car has done less than 20k miles since. The problem started about 1-2 months ago pretty much out of nowhere. When I read it with my OBD2 scanner, cylinders 1 and 2 on an inline 4 engine are misfiring. I had a look and there looks to be about 5mm of water pooled around the guilty spark plugs from when I washed the engine bay.

I've tried re-seating the cables and coil pack, but no luck. I can't quite get at the water to soak it up. What could be the cause? Is it something to do with spark, injectors, or something else? I also checked the cables that power my coil pack and injectors, but they don't look to be burnt or damaged.

>My shitbox had what seemed like a fairly significant oil leak but at some point the oil seemed to stop going down. There's a lot of dried oil in the engine bay.
Could it be that it only leaks under heavy load, when there's enough crankcase pressure to force it past whatever seal is failing?

when i slightly press the brake pedal and then release it i hear something that sounds like hissing air coming from the pedal. when i press the brake hard and release it there is no sound or it is much quieter. when i quickly tap the brake a few times (lightly), with every tap sound gets quieter, after 3rd it is silent. after 5 or 6 seconds of brake being released if i do it again it will hiss again. this started recently, pedal was silent before. drives me insane when driving in city with constant breaking. what is the cause and how to fix it?

i had 2 shitboxes that did this from the day i bought them until i sold them, never paid attention to it and didnt have any problem with it/didnt notice it getting worse over the year or 2 that i had them

I want to get into overlanding, road trips, self sucking. Should I go for a previous gen 4runner or tacoma? Never been something I have done before, but Its been something I have been wanting to get into. Have 110k saved up (still live in an apartment lol) and make around 120k a year. As much as I want a 4runner, paying 50k for a used car seems fucking comical. The only reason I really want one is so I can sleep in the back too

Depends where you live and if you currently enjoy camping. Spend that money on a house though, god damn.
>>
>>28914754
I live a city or two away from Seattle so thats like not even a 20% of a townhouse lmao. I also dont camp at all, would love to get into it though. Its just hard to justify spending that type of money on a used 4runner, ya know? Like im pretty pragmatic when it comes to that stuff. I just need the new fucking xterra to come out.
>>
>>28914763
Get an FHA loan and buy a condo or starter home. You can afford it. Don't blow your money on an expensive vehicle. Get a cheap 4x4 instead to see how much you actually utilize it. If camping/offroading becomes a big hobby for you, there's always the option to upgrade.
>>
>>28914690
vacuum boosted systems (most cars before 2018) rely on engine vacuum to generate hydraulic boost pressure. you are depleting your boost which allows you to turn your master cylinder pressure into a larger pressure at the wheels. this will vary based on who supplies the actuator, the Bosch unit in my Cherokee makes lots of noises (like opening a bottle of pop) while the Continental unit in my Mustang doesn’t make much, if any.

modern systems like those found after 2018 use electronic boost typically through some kind of electric motor driving a piston. these will make other types of noises, usually a “whoosh” sound rather than what you describe
>>
>>28914468
iirc the ancient cars with dumb keys before fobs somewhat relied on pure chance that you would never try your key in someone else’s car, because there was always a chance it would work

consider this: if you have 10,000 unique key combinations and sell 100,000 models, you have 10 cars out there that share the same key. that’s more reasonable than you think, because in 6 years that number will be 5, and in 20 years it might be 2 or 3. and then consider that you can distribute them across the country, and you limit your risk even further.

i have no idea why people would sell old keys other than as a trinket or for scrap. like i said, unless you knew the product code for that key, it’s basically only worth the scrap price.
>>
>>28914520
if there is water just sitting in the spark plug wells, that is going to penetrate the boots over time and cause a misfire. blow it out with compressed air.
did you use OEM spark plugs and coil packs? if not that is likely a problem as well.
>>
>>28914944
there are a lot fewer combinations than you'd think. in the 80s i had a dodge van and a dodge truck, same key for both by pure chance, was really convenient.

I'm thinking about buying a set of these for my AWD Suzuki Swift. Is 175 too narrow for 6" wide wheels? I'm thinking about debeading risk when I air down for sand. Should I even bother airing down a tire that's so stiff it's basically a run-flat? Will I hate my life driving with these tires?
>>
How do make sure I don't get hoodwinked when it comes to getting new tyres? I need one replaced, maybe two, but I don't want to ask the guy how many I need because he might turn around and say "yep, you need four new ones, and they need to be this ultra premium line that all the chads get"

In my experience, problems that start after warming up are usually O2 sensor related. They're bypassed during warmup and then start giving incorrect signals once it's warm.

Back in the 70s and 80s it was typical to have 5-10 keys for a given tumbler, which could be used in multiple models. I don't believe that's the case anymore.

>>28915267
175mm is 6.88 inches so you won't be stretched or anything. I don't have experience with airing down.

>>28915295
Just know what you want. I've never had anyone try to upsell me when I asked for a specific model and size. If they try to get you to buy all four, just tell them that's a problem for next paycheck and they'll understand, not many people budget for tires in advance.
>>
>>28915295
Oh, and buy two tires. Just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to be a nigger.

>Back in the 70s and 80s it was typical to have 5-10 keys for a given tumbler, which could be used in multiple models. I don't believe that's the case anymore.
that could be, i'm also reminded of a story my aunt used to tell me, in the late 1970s she had a brown VW rabbit. one day she left the grocery, got in it, and drove away. she was several blocks away when she realized it wasn't her car, but an identical one parked the next row down that had the same key. she had accidentally committed grand theft auto. fortunately at least per her story, nobody noticed and she parked it and moved her groceries to the right car.
>>
>>28915317
>175mm is 6.88 inches so you won't be stretched or anything. I don't have experience with airing down.
Yeah, I figured it's >6", so it should be fine, but I heard from some random that 175 is narrow for 6" and I should go with 185. Seems like a tiny difference.
>>
>>28915320
It's definitely a thing, my cousin is big into 240Zs and he has a set of all seven different keys for helping out people who have misplaced their keys or bought a car without them.
>>
>>28915328
I'm inclined to agree, but since having a tire roll off bead (granted it was stretched 1/4") I'll never run less than 25 psi cold. Maybe if I had beadlocks, I guess.

I'm replacing 185/60R15s on 5.5" steel wheels. Lowest pressure I ran on them was ~20 psi on sand. I'm not planning to go down below that, except maybe for a few yards to get unstuck somewhere. With such a stiff sidewall, hopefully it's less likely to debead; however, with such a stiff sidewall, I'm not sure if it's even worth the time to air down if the contact patch isn't going to grow much.

car in question is w213 e class built in 2016. it does kinda sound like "whoosh" when releasing the pedal. sound is there only as the pedal is moving to fully depressed position, there is no continuous noise
so is it dangerous to drive like this? the sound bothers me, but i just checked the prices and oem part is 400 € without labor
id rather trade it in for a new one than to drop 1000€ in 10 year old car because there is weird sound at the brake pedal

I don't think so. It doesn't seem like it's been leaking at all the past year and a bit that I've been driving it (it's been in the family a while and I know it was leaking pretty regularly in the past) and I'm not a hoon but I don't drive like a grandma

Bumping this question

>>28917382
Here are the most likely websites you are looking for:

1. Ultimate Specs (ultimatespecs.com)
This is the strongest match for your description.

Features: It is essentially a giant, no-nonsense database. When you search for a car, it dumps an incredible amount of technical data, including detailed suspension architecture, braking systems, interior space, and aerodynamics.

Comparator: It has a highly utilized "Compare Cars" tool that lets you stack multiple vehicles side-by-side to see exactly how their dimensions and mechanics differ.

2. Auto-Data (auto-data.net)
If Ultimate Specs isn't it, Auto-Data is the next most likely candidate.

Features: It has one of the most exhaustive technical libraries on the internet. It lists everything down to the engine bore/stroke, specific suspension types (e.g., MacPherson strut vs. multi-link), and exact cabin dimensions.

Comparator: They feature a robust side-by-side comparison tool that handles multiple generations and trims of vehicles.

3. CarBuzz (carbuzz.com)
If the website you remember felt a bit more modern, polished, or magazine-like, it might be CarBuzz.

Features: While they do a lot of automotive news and reviews, their "Compare Cars" tool is excellent. You can pull up almost any modern car and get a side-by-side breakdown of legroom, headroom, suspension, drivetrain, and pricing.

4. Cars-Data (cars-data.com)

Another dark-horse candidate that fits your memory.

Features: Very similar to Ultimate Specs, it focuses heavily on raw data rather than reviews, offering deep-dive specifications on dimensions, chassis, and suspension setups.

Recommendation: Try pulling up Ultimate Specs first—based on the exact combination of the color scheme and the specific types of data (suspension and interior dimensions) you mentioned, it usually hits the nail on the head.

if you aren’t leaking fluid it’s fine. keep an eye on it to be sure. most old systems do that.

if you’re concerned to test your brake system, find a gravel road, drive to 25 mph, and hit the brakes as hard as you can. that will tell you if things are working as intended.

I found a brand new spare wheel from a 1999 car, forgot to check the date but they're probably at least 10 years old

the srs module most likely measures the resistance of the airbag module in ohms to see if it's present. if you measure it with a multimeter then wire a resistor with the same value to the wires, it will likely kill the light. keep in mind even after correcting you will have to clear the DTC and power cycle the ignition to make the light go off.

if it’s an older key, like before 2010, then it’s probably pretty simple to repair. just bust out a multimeter and start checking for continuity at each circuit element. chances are you have a failed capacitor or something.

if its a newer key with RFID then it gets more complicated. if you fried the motherboard where all that’s encoded then you might be SOL.

like most things it depends on time. you could spend 2 days sussing out the problem, and a new key may only be $200 at the hardware store. so if you value your weekend more than $200, then it might not be worth repairing.
>>
>>28918020
most have a way to reboot them manually in some way. on Chryslers it is by pushing both the volume and tuning knobs in at the same time. on Fords its holding down the power button and seek right for 10 seconds. ymmv depending on OEM and year.

USUALLY they will let you do a rolling/running restart but that depends on age. my old gen1 Fusion would randomly shit itself and then I’d need to completely disconnect the battery to restart it

>>28917745
it may not be a complete failure but it’s approaching failure status. i would take this as your heads up to fix it now.

I bled my brakes and used this cheap harbor freight pressure pump brake bleeder. WHen I was bleeding the fluid really bubbly and ran slow. I had to do like 6 or 7 pump cycles. I bled until the fluid ran clear but it was always bubbly. I kind of assumed this was due to the actual device I was using and not that there were air bubbles in my lines. I made sure the master cylinder never ran dry. Is it possible to introduce air bubbles when sucking the fluid out or is that only if the cylinder runs dry? im paranoid now my brake lines are like 90% air. it sounds like the connection of your bleeder at the bleed nipple itself wasn't very good so was drawing in air there. you could introduce air if you released the brake pedal while it was loose, but there's a good chance the suction pulled it tight when/if that happened so they still got bled.
if your pedal feels firm, I wouldn't worry about it.
>>
>>28920342
probably just jack it up and rotate the wheel while listening for the sounds of a bad bearing. you should change both hub assemblies anyway if your changing one so as long you know front vs rear it wouldnt matter too much. When mine went bad it made intermittent clicking/thunking noises. you can probably try and check for wheel play too and if one of them has a lot more its probably that one. but once again if your changing one front the other should be changed too

>>
>>28920342
If it's really bad, you'll be able to tell by rocking the top of the tire back and forth and feeling for play. It's possible for it to be bad but not have perceptible play, though. I would generally recommend replacing both bearings at the same time, since unless you're circle track racing they'll have seen similar levels of wear. Beats trying to remember which one you replaced in a year when the other starts going bad.

>>28920641
With the engine off, press your brake, if it feels spongey you've probably got bubbles. If you're not sure, pump it several times hard and fast. If it firms up it means you've got bubbles and they're now dissolved in the fluid. Let it sit for a couple of hours for them to separate back out, and then bleed them again.

I don't like the harbor freight brake bleeder. If you just take a length of tubing that fits tightly over the bleeder, and stick it into a clear container, and then fill the container partway up with brake fluid, you can bleed with the brake pedal and look at the container on the ground beside you to watch for bubbles. As long as the end of the tubing doesn't come out of the fluid you don't have to worry about air making it back into the system; any reversion will just suck a small amount of fluid back in.

>>28920722
Definitely something wrong there, it might get hot if it's got power for the fan running through it, but if it's hot doing nothing you've got a short. Could be in the relay, or in the fan, or in the wiring between them.

Explain to me what makes vehicle being on frame so much better than unibody
>>
>>28921295
It makes some body panels simpler to replace, which is sort of a big deal for trucks that often have their beds abused.

If you manage to bend your frame in a BOF vehicle there's a chance you can straighten it back out, if you bend any of the structure of a unibody car it will never be the same again

Straightening a frame is as much of a shitshow as straightening a unibody. On the other hand, bending a frame is a lot less likely.

All automatic, on regular gasoline. None have any -reported- issues on their pages, other than having passed inspections. The most important thing is that it just werks.

the bolstering on my car is kind of shit. the passenger's side is much stronger. Car only has 42k miles on it, but I bought it used at ~35k Maybe the PO was a fatass? Who knows.
If you had to guess, would part #4 (the seat cover) come with the foam cushion? or would it be part #3?
Or should I just hire an upholsterer to tear it apart and add/replace foam instead of rebuying OEM?
I know it's a dumb complaint but I sat in the passenger's side and I was like damn this is how it should feel, being held in place. And when I drive my wife's cx5 her seat feels the same. My car feels like a flat but cushioned wall. It's a 2017 rx350 if that matters at all.

I cant decide if I want to buy a used 4runner or a new Frontier.

4Runner:

>32k miles
>45K, 8% APR so closer to 55k after paid off
>its a fucking used 4runner

>Frontier
>Brand new, PRO4X
>48k OTD, 60 Month 0% APR
>That 9 speed transmission is chefs kiss
>3 year warranty

I love hiking, road trips, want to get into overlanding. The big thing I like about the 4runner is being able to sleep in the back (which I dont know how much id use) and nice seats in the back for my homies as I dont drink and get to be the designated driver a lot. Something about paying that much for a 5 year old car though seems dumb as hell. I cant say Id own either car for a long time, I am really hoping that the Xterra comes out in a few years or I get a promotion at work and can afford a brand new 4runner. I have 110k saved, would put 30k or so down. Not buying a house anytime soon as while I can afford it, it would be half of my take home and thats a silly financial decision. Some of my friends lean 4runner, some Frontier. The ones leaning Frontier have owned 5th gen 4runners which is concerning.

#4 is just the seat cover, #3 is the foam, they're sold separately. it's more of a pain in the ass to replace than it seems like it would be.
a good upholsterer can replace just the section of the seat with decent results (color would be slightly different).

if i've changed the intake manifold gasket recently, how likely is that a p0171 code is caused by shitty chink ignition coils i installed about six months ago?

I was looking at this car and the wheel's coil spring looked rusty and was chipping off. I mentioned this and the owner said that it's just the paint and there's nothing to worry about. Is this trickery?
>>
>>28928680
when i got lean codes i had to change the whole manifold. I assume you made sure the manifold was fine if you only changed the gasket. If its only a single bank check o2 sensors. clean maf sensor. do a smoke test to check for leaks. if its not air related then move on fuel delivery.

if you got this code after you changed the gasket then maybe you didnt install it correctly. spark plugs and injectors are not usually the prime suspects for lean codes. you have too much air or not enough fuel and only on a single bank so focus on the most likely causes.
>>
>>28928846
i cleaned my MAF sensor too. im going to check to see if its gone faulty since. but after perusing some info im thinking it could be related to the injectors being clogged or a bad fuel filter (ive literally never changed it and im at over 200k miles kek). good thing its a easy fix on my car.

>>
>>28928846
>>28928847
i meant spark plugs and coils are not the prime suspects. injectors are definitely a suspect and since its single bank i would look at injectors over the pump first. filter should be a simple change but probably not the cause. If you do the fuel side and its still there I would do smoke test to double check for air leaks. you can make a homemade smoker pretty easily then hook it up to your air intake system and push it through with an air compressor. If you have a scan tool you can check how your O2 sensors are functioning. single bank code also makes a faulty O2 sensor more likely

How do I properly come to a stop? And is it bad to downshift and hold it at the bite point to slow the car down?
At intersections I've just been coming to a near complete stop and put it into neutral once the engine becomes very close to lugging, but I've heard someone say you really shouldn't do that. Any truth to that?

Repairs rarely add as much to the value of the car as they cost. If a good condition shitbox costs 5k then if yours is shot and needs 10k worth of repairs to get it back to good condition it'll still be worth 5k afterwards, possibly less if it had frame damage or was flooded or some other shit that's nearly impossible to fully repair. So yeah it's possible for repairs to cost more than what the car will be worth afterwards, that's the principle behind insurance declaring your car totaled as well.

yes it is extremely bad to hold it at the bite point to slow the car down (or any amount of pressing in the clutch, unless completely in, to slow the car down). If you want to "engine" brake, whatever, that's fine but honestly just downshift and apply brakes. downshift apply brakes. or in some circumstances hop into neutral and brake, it's experience that'll decide when to do either. I wouldn't downshift into first. Stop at 2nd or hop into neutral...unless you come to a complete stop, then yea...first or neutral is fine...
downshift before your engine comes close to lugging, you don't want to lug the engine.

>>28932331
If the belt is set to the right tension and it's still not spinning, yea, just buy a new belt. I don't know how alternator clutches work - i don't know if it could fail where it spins freely when not engaged but when the clutch engages it completely locks up. doubtful. belts are cheap. buy one.

Could tech like direction injection, pre-combustion chambers, etc reduce fuel consumption enough for rotaries to make a comeback, or are they dead for good?
>>
i'm excited boys. I just purchased a garage kept 1988 Ford Crown Victoria wagon. 1 owner, non smoker, entire binder of maintenance slips, dealer only. 35k miles, owner has had it since it was new and got something newer. Bought it for $7500. However, it needs some work. All wearable stuff such as tires, brake pads/rotors, probably little shit like new wipers, etc. It got me questioning though if I should also be looking at stuff like belts on the motor. If the motor isn't making any noise and the belts aren't worn down looking/dry rotted, do I need to even worry about anything.

pic related, how the interior looked brand new. I don't want to post pics of my actual car until it's all done and been detailed.
>>
>>28933129
it's not just fuel reduction, it's reliability and things like apex seals. The Mazda RX8 was rotary but was also pitched towards Grandmas looking for a car to get back and forth to bingo. The car would never be revved, never be above maybe 40MPH, and the motors would kill themselves in like 40k miles because rotaries need to be regularly up in the RPM range for health reasons. So you're basically trying to sell a motor to the public that
>uses more oil consistently
>has apex seal failure point that other motors don't even have to consider
>worse fuel mileage (even with proposed changes)
>even worse fuel mileage because you have to drive in the higher RPM range to keep the motor healthy
>many people see high RPM = killing the motor
I think rotaries are sick, just not feasible for mass production when simple motors exist. My buddy's mom has an RX8 that she drives exactly like I said. Slow, grocery getter, etc. He makes it a point to take it out on the highway loop and get the car up to 8k RPM for a few passes twice a month to make sure carbon build up doesn't kill the motor.

This is keeping me up at night despite being from a year ago but I want to make sure it's okay
I have a 2000 camry and it had an oil leak last year I put off getting fixed
There was a time I went to get my oil changed and the guy said it was dry in there
I assume there was still oil in the system or else there would have been a problem
No lights came on beforehand and 10k miles later it's still seemingly running fine
I know what I did was stupid by not checking my oil level and might have shortened my cars life, but is it possible that I might have ruined something? I feel like it's gotta be almost an all or nothing situation but I'm not a mechanic
The only other problems since then was broken struts and an old air filter, so nothing is broken with the engine yet
I don't know why this is keeping me distracted a year later but I've been thinking about it all day
>>
>>28933167
Nice find. I have a routine for older cars I buy but since yours has maintenance records, I'd sort through them and figure out when the last time things had been done and then look at those items on the car to see if there's problems with related parts (like if a strut was replaced, make sure they did the mount too). Similarly, when you're doing any work, just go ahead and get anything that you have easier access to while you're already at it.
Definitely look at all parts of the cooling system, change all the fluids, and check all the hoses under the hood and bushings as rubber parts will simply fail with age. Accessory belts and generally any filters are basically a no-brainer since they're cheap and easy. There's probably a forum that'll have more model-specific info so browse around there, too.

Use 303 or some other rubber preservative on the door seals and interior plastics.

It's possible for the damage to not manifest itself immediately, I don't know if a year is a long enough time to where if it was gonna happen it'd have to have happened already, but you should still be on the lookout for changes in engine sound and glitter in the oil. Maybe buy a magnetized drain plug and check it during the oil change for metal shavings. Anyway if it's fucked nothing you can do short of an engine rebuild which is gonna cost you.

Has anyone ever successfully ordered a logbook online before? I've tried twice and both times the bank will have the payment pending and it never comes out. I even contacted the DVLA and they said they have no record of me requesting one.
Their dogshit website is barely fit for purpose.
>Put card details in
>Confirm payment
>Pending
>Pending
>Page just changes to "make a payment" or whatever with nowhere to put any details in
I know this is partially my fault for thinking a government entity with an unlimited budget like the DVLA would have the ability to tell you the reason why it hasn't worked, so it hold my hands up to that.
But now I'm dubious about doing it by post in case the same thing happens. Especially with them being such a shoestring organisation that is, somehow, incapable of giving refunds.
It's an absolute piece of fucking shit.

low oil level for extended periods means you accelerated wear on the piston rings and valve train. you likely also damaged the lifters and gummed everything up internally due to the remaining oil getting much dirtier. you certainly reduced your engine's lifespan.

call this a learning episode. make it a habit to check your oil and do a basic visual check of your fluids and engine compartment every single time you fill up. it only takes a minute, is a good habit and can save you breakdowns and prolong the life of your car.

Anyone else only engine brake?
>>

Mostly. It pisses people off going down off ramps but I don't care lol. Then it pisses me off when I am behind someone doing it because they're a slow retard that can't drive.
>>
>>28935360
>>28935364
i do it as much as i can, manual or auto. it's funny when they get closer to you on a long downhill then afterwards they increase the gap. they're probably wondering how this mofo is maintaining speed/slowing down without the brakes
>>
>>28935360
I used to do it all of the time until someone who I consider to be a way better driver than me told me I was "breaking the car" by doing it and needed to stop.

I was even going to specify they didn't mean that kek. They went on about it afterwards and had someone "confirm" that it "damages the engine". They had been in the car with me at the time.

you can tell them that i confirmed with someonER that it does NOT damage the engine. I had been in the car with me at the time so it's personally verified.
seriously though, it doesn't damage the engine, they're designed for that.

Used car salesmen have a deserved reputation. That doesn't mean you're definitely getting screwed, but definitely go through the engine bay with a microscope looking for fluid leaks, cracking rubber, rust, etc. Also get the Carfax on it.

My old (2000) honda accord had the cat stolen. I wasnt going to pay for a new OEM one so the guys at the lcoal shop threw on an aftermarket one and replaced both O2 sensors. Now my check engine light is on when it never was an issue before. What could be the issue and am I permanently fucked?
>>
>>28935418
what code is the check engine light setting? if it's a P0420, it means the cat they installed doesn't work. just install a spacer on the oxygen sensor so it doesn't get a direct flow of exhaust. cheap and easy.
good chance they used shitty aftermarket o2 sensors, no idea why they would replace them if they weren't giving faults. virtually all aftermarket o2 sensors are garbage so you'll need to replace them with OEM
>>
>>28935438

the crackheads who stole my cat took one of the O2 sensors with them, and the shop suggested i replace the other one when it kept showing a check engine light after they put the other cat on. I'm going to tell them they fucked up and need to fix the issue.

I ordered an OBD2 reader so I'm going to check the code when it comes in.

My belt came in. Seems to have been the issue. The new one fits within the old one, so it was definitely stretched out and the difference between how tight I had to set the tensioner is crazy.
>>
>>28921210
>just take a length of tubing that fits tightly over the bleeder, and stick it into a clear container, and then fill the container partway up with brake fluid
You can just get a relatively long length of tubing and make sure it goes up for a while before it goes down to the container. Any bubble that gets into the tube will proceed up to the high point, too far from the bleeder to be reintroduced when you release the pedal.

As a tall person (6'3+), which would you pick between these models?

>Chevy Traverse

This isn't my car so I won't have all of the answers. I'm asking on behalf of my brother.
>Car gets taken to mechanic for some minor repairs
>End up stuck there for genuinely about 18 months because my brother is away
>Mechanic is cool though and just keeps it in his yard
>Tells the mechanic he plans to pick it up and the mechanic does what's necessary for it to drive straight off after having stood there for so long
>Mechanic does the MOT and it fires up instantly
>Everything is sorted
>The next day it won't start like the battery is 100% dead
>Battery has been on a while so he figures it might just be fucked and buys a new one
>Attaches the new one and it fires up instantly
>The next day it won't start like the new battery is 100% dead
It seems something is draining the battery like when you leave the headlights on, but there's nothing left on that would drain the battery.
Does anyone know what it could be? It's a 500 Abarth if that's relevant.
>>
>>28936247
>italian car
>electrical gremlins
It's part of the experience. To find parasitic drain you gotta plug a multimeter to to the negative battery terminal and start pulling fuses until it goes away. I'm pretty sure chrisfix has a video on how to do it. Also he has a video to check if the battery really is dead too, in case it isn't that. They sell battery testers that will quickly diagnose battery health, they're not too expensive, project farm has a video on those. Maybe the alternator is not charging the battery though I would expect it to have enough juice to last over a day.

>>
>>28936166
ignore the other retarded comment, you failed because the check engine light is on, the check engine light is on because the car is running lean. you need to diagnose the reason it is running lean. there are many possible reasons from a simple vacuum leak to clogged injectors to a bad mass air flow to a failing fuel pump, but you need to find the actual cause before you start replacing any parts.
>>
I recently got one of these boats and despite putting enough air in my tyres they seem kinda gummy

They're vredestein's so not chinesium crap

I'm thinking the previous owner just threw whatever on there but because it's so front heavy the tyres are hating it

Do these things just drive sloppy or does it need sturdier tyres

i use spray carb cleaner, brake clean is a stronger solvent and might damage something.
also if it's a cheap chink one from aliexpress or amazon, be careful not to get any solvent on it, the plastic case will literally melt. put a clear plastic back over it before using.

My shifter is getting harder and stiffer by the day...
>>
>>28937397
disconnect the shift linkage from the transmission. if it's hard to shift on the transmission input itself, try changing your transmission oil.
If the transmission input is easy but through the shifter is hard, replace all the shifter bushings, sometimes they grind down which can cause sloppy shifting and hard shifting.

My wife has a 2020 CRV LX that came with a cheap head unit. What’s the best option for adding wireless CarPlay? Seems like the Joying retrofits are popular but I’m thinking of just adding one of the cheaper Krunia units from Amazon for better positioning. Trying to keep all factory steering wheel controls and ideally something that feels OEM.

This would be a good thread Br/o/. A consistent satin finish can be had in a minute with glass bead blasting. That would completely change the look and be tedious to polish back. Blend damage with black oxide sandpaper +/-600. There’s aluminium brazing rod, for filling pits on fasteners flanged surfaces. Lap flat with a pipe or old rusty socket and carbide compound. There’s some chemical strippers that probably don’t work for shit and I am unfamiliar with any brands but, maybe one of those with a heat gun. Might be easier to redo clear from square one but any clear coat at all is cheating in my opinion. I am not a professional tho.

I have a pretty fucked set of wheels that I wouldn't put on my car and I'd like to see if I could paint them as close to chrome as possible for cheap, general consensus is paint them black first and then spray "chrome" after, obvious that it'll never look like proper chrome but I'd like to see how close I could get them in the cheapest possible way.
Most likely a waste of time but its something I might have a go at out of boredom. They are fucked, gutter rash and big cuts in them so selling them would be a waste of effort too.

Is it generally possible to change the shocks on a set of coilovers?
