Bloody Volvo driver edish

My shitbox had what seemed like a fairly significant oil leak but at some point the oil seemed to stop going down. There's a lot of dried oil in the engine bay. I'm imagining it's somehow congealed or blocked the leak... problem solved? I'm scared to clean the engine lest it starts leaking again. What, if anything, should I do?

take the car to a professional mechanic

Later this week I am picking my car up from a mechanic. Blew a caliper far from home and limped it to a small shop 2 blocks from where I broke down. Long story short, parts weren't easy to obtain because it's an older car, but they have been super cool about it. I feel bad that I've tied up their lift for a week. Would picrel be an appropriate thank you gift?
>>
>>28914205
they could have put the wheel back on and shoved it into a parking spot at any moment if they needed the lift. Don't worry about a gift they'll be taking it out of your ass when you get the bill, you just kept that shop open for another 6 months.

About 10 years ago I lost my key, the only key I had, for my car. I had to call someone out and he gave me like 3 new ones when he sorted it out. Eventually I found the old key and reprogrammed it so it would work with the others, or I reprogrammed all of them so they would work I can't remember.
Now I have something different and again only have one key. This one doesn't have a fob or anything it's just a caveman key. Whenever I try to buy a one with a fob they're all blades that I need to get someone to cut.
However I see keys that are already cut for my old car on ebay as well as others, just none for the one I currently have.

I don't get it. What would be the point in selling already cut keys unless you can use them? Likewise, why does it seem so impossible to buy an already cut key for what I need now?

My shitbox misfires badly after the engine warms up and I don't know why. While it's cold, it drives perfectly under full power, but once it warms up it will have a rough idle, accelerates really slowly, and will struggle uphill or not make it up at all if it's too seep. It's so bad that my CEL flashes. In some cases, the misfires are so bad that my engine sounds like a lawnmower, and my car backfires.

I changed the coil pack, ignition leads, and spark plugs 5 years ago, and the car has done less than 20k miles since. The problem started about 1-2 months ago pretty much out of nowhere. When I read it with my OBD2 scanner, cylinders 1 and 2 on an inline 4 engine are misfiring. I had a look and there looks to be about 5mm of water pooled around the guilty spark plugs from when I washed the engine bay.

I've tried re-seating the cables and coil pack, but no luck. I can't quite get at the water to soak it up. What could be the cause? Is it something to do with spark, injectors, or something else? I also checked the cables that power my coil pack and injectors, but they don't look to be burnt or damaged.

Could it be that it only leaks under heavy load, when there's enough crankcase pressure to force it past whatever seal is failing?

when i slightly press the brake pedal and then release it i hear something that sounds like hissing air coming from the pedal. when i press the brake hard and release it there is no sound or it is much quieter. when i quickly tap the brake a few times (lightly), with every tap sound gets quieter, after 3rd it is silent. after 5 or 6 seconds of brake being released if i do it again it will hiss again. this started recently, pedal was silent before. drives me insane when driving in city with constant breaking. what is the cause and how to fix it?

i had 2 shitboxes that did this from the day i bought them until i sold them, never paid attention to it and didnt have any problem with it/didnt notice it getting worse over the year or 2 that i had them

I want to get into overlanding, road trips, self sucking. Should I go for a previous gen 4runner or tacoma? Never been something I have done before, but Its been something I have been wanting to get into. Have 110k saved up (still live in an apartment lol) and make around 120k a year. As much as I want a 4runner, paying 50k for a used car seems fucking comical. The only reason I really want one is so I can sleep in the back too

Depends where you live and if you currently enjoy camping. Spend that money on a house though, god damn.
>>
>>28914754
I live a city or two away from Seattle so thats like not even a 20% of a townhouse lmao. I also dont camp at all, would love to get into it though. Its just hard to justify spending that type of money on a used 4runner, ya know? Like im pretty pragmatic when it comes to that stuff. I just need the new fucking xterra to come out.
>>
>>28914763
Get an FHA loan and buy a condo or starter home. You can afford it. Don't blow your money on an expensive vehicle. Get a cheap 4x4 instead to see how much you actually utilize it. If camping/offroading becomes a big hobby for you, there's always the option to upgrade.

vacuum boosted systems (most cars before 2018) rely on engine vacuum to generate hydraulic boost pressure. you are depleting your boost which allows you to turn your master cylinder pressure into a larger pressure at the wheels. this will vary based on who supplies the actuator, the Bosch unit in my Cherokee makes lots of noises (like opening a bottle of pop) while the Continental unit in my Mustang doesn’t make much, if any.

modern systems like those found after 2018 use electronic boost typically through some kind of electric motor driving a piston. these will make other types of noises, usually a “whoosh” sound rather than what you describe

iirc the ancient cars with dumb keys before fobs somewhat relied on pure chance that you would never try your key in someone else’s car, because there was always a chance it would work

consider this: if you have 10,000 unique key combinations and sell 100,000 models, you have 10 cars out there that share the same key. that’s more reasonable than you think, because in 6 years that number will be 5, and in 20 years it might be 2 or 3. and then consider that you can distribute them across the country, and you limit your risk even further.

i have no idea why people would sell old keys other than as a trinket or for scrap. like i said, unless you knew the product code for that key, it’s basically only worth the scrap price.

if there is water just sitting in the spark plug wells, that is going to penetrate the boots over time and cause a misfire. blow it out with compressed air.
did you use OEM spark plugs and coil packs? if not that is likely a problem as well.
>>
>>28914944
there are a lot fewer combinations than you'd think. in the 80s i had a dodge van and a dodge truck, same key for both by pure chance, was really convenient.

I'm thinking about buying a set of these for my AWD Suzuki Swift. Is 175 too narrow for 6" wide wheels? I'm thinking about debeading risk when I air down for sand. Should I even bother airing down a tire that's so stiff it's basically a run-flat? Will I hate my life driving with these tires?
>>
How do make sure I don't get hoodwinked when it comes to getting new tyres? I need one replaced, maybe two, but I don't want to ask the guy how many I need because he might turn around and say "yep, you need four new ones, and they need to be this ultra premium line that all the chads get"

Rebuild time

>>28914520
In my experience, problems that start after warming up are usually O2 sensor related. They're bypassed during warmup and then start giving incorrect signals once it's warm.

Back in the 70s and 80s it was typical to have 5-10 keys for a given tumbler, which could be used in multiple models. I don't believe that's the case anymore.

>>28915267
175mm is 6.88 inches so you won't be stretched or anything. I don't have experience with airing down.

>>28915295
Just know what you want. I've never had anyone try to upsell me when I asked for a specific model and size. If they try to get you to buy all four, just tell them that's a problem for next paycheck and they'll understand, not many people budget for tires in advance.
>>
>>28915295
Oh, and buy two tires. Just because you're poor doesn't mean you have to be a nigger.

that could be, i'm also reminded of a story my aunt used to tell me, in the late 1970s she had a brown VW rabbit. one day she left the grocery, got in it, and drove away. she was several blocks away when she realized it wasn't her car, but an identical one parked the next row down that had the same key. she had accidentally committed grand theft auto. fortunately at least per her story, nobody noticed and she parked it and moved her groceries to the right car.

Yeah, I figured it's >6", so it should be fine, but I heard from some random that 175 is narrow for 6" and I should go with 185. Seems like a tiny difference.

It's definitely a thing, my cousin is big into 240Zs and he has a set of all seven different keys for helping out people who have misplaced their keys or bought a car without them.
>>
>>28915328
I'm inclined to agree, but since having a tire roll off bead (granted it was stretched 1/4") I'll never run less than 25 psi cold. Maybe if I had beadlocks, I guess.

I'm replacing 185/60R15s on 5.5" steel wheels. Lowest pressure I ran on them was ~20 psi on sand. I'm not planning to go down below that, except maybe for a few yards to get unstuck somewhere. With such a stiff sidewall, hopefully it's less likely to debead; however, with such a stiff sidewall, I'm not sure if it's even worth the time to air down if the contact patch isn't going to grow much.

I'm looking for a specific car comparison website. It's black and red themed and you can search up any car and get things like suspension type, dimensions on the inside, etc. It also has a comparator tool for multiple different vehicles side by side.

car in question is w213 e class built in 2016. it does kinda sound like "whoosh" when releasing the pedal. sound is there only as the pedal is moving to fully depressed position, there is no continuous noise
so is it dangerous to drive like this? the sound bothers me, but i just checked the prices and oem part is 400 € without labor
id rather trade it in for a new one than to drop 1000€ in 10 year old car because there is weird sound at the brake pedal
