>americans think you need 1000 lbft of torque to tow
at the crank or wheel?
>>28914284Large coolant system, large brakes, a truck heavier than the trailer so you’re not getting ripped around helps the tow go nicely, I tow stuff all over the Sierra Nevadas in a 12v Cummins and have no issues other than my transmission exploding twice, finally got rid of that shitty nv4500 and swapped a ZF6 in with external cooler so that problem is solved
>americans will be like I need a 400hp $100k truck to tow a ln unbraked Chinese made Mexican assembled trailer on $30 chaoyang tires at 80mph
>>28914284Well yeah if I'm taking ur mom home.
>>28914294Oh look its this retarded fat fuck again. Go away. You have literally no clue what you're talking about.
>>28914284He's not saying you "need 1000lbft to tow" he's saying that using hp as a metric to evaluate towing is wrong and torque is the important thing to focus on. First guy is trying to imply the Armada is more capable for towing because it makes more power than a turbo diesel. Second guy corrected him by saying torque is the number to look at, where turbo diesels have 1000lbft which is far more than the Nissan, therefore making their engines far more suited for towing
>>28914374but the armada has more torque and horsepower than 2-3 litre diesel engines
>>28914376And? A Miata makes more hp and torque than a 0.8l diesel smart car does that mean the Miata is a good car for towing with?
>>28914284I get that the reddit downvotes got you crashing out all the way to back to 4chan, but that's not what he's saying.
>>28914294shut the fuck up dog fucker
>torque Its actually about horsepower. The tow engine needs to make good specific output horsepower *at an RPM low and comfortable enough to stay at for hours*. This means big, low end torque, and why people always associate big torque with engines that haul, but it's really about having the HP at the correct, suitable RPM
>>28914284it’s not enough to be *able* to tow, you need to be able to tow at 15 above the speed limit while climbing a hill
>>28914456What if theres no hills where I live and why do I care about going 15 above the speed limit.
>>28914362Fat? You seem to have me confused with someone else, I’m extremely skinny
>>28914420Peak midwit
>>28914460Having big brakes is even more important, getting going is one thing, stopping in a timely and controlled fashion is another
>>28914284Would be nice to know the context. We'd know if OP posted a link like an educated human being and not a street shitter
I love whenever the torque vs horsepower /o/tism argument comes around because it's such a funny filter for people who understands power intuitively vs what they've been told. Power is torque over time, they are intrinsically related. To tow an object, the engine configuration is actually unsubstantial to the whole argument, the real talk up be focused on the transmission, the mechanical device that can convert power into torque
>>28914294>I tow stuff all over the Sierra NevadasNo you don't.POST 3 examples.>at the Greasy Spoon Diner:>Yeah bros..it was brutal..I had to tow my HotDog cart about 15 miles>**GASPS**>I'm lucky to be alivePiss Offf.
>>28914284There is a thing called peak hp/torque and sustained hp/torque. Running an engine at 110% power when it is not designed for it will lead to early catastrophic failure.
>>28914498This.You could tow with a gas turbine (high RPM, low torque at the shaft), if the transmission is able to get enough torque to the wheels. The engine must be able to provide the necessary power over long periods of time (cooling!) not only for a short sprint.
>>28914284Why wouldn't you want 1,000 ft.-lb to tow? The only reason that make sense is that you are forbidden to have a big engine by your government.
>>28914284Eurochads: towing our boat with a TwingoAmericels: Hold it, hoss. Is that a pack of gum in your bed? That ain't safe son. You need an F-450 to safely haul that load
>muh torqueI have a big torque wrench that goes up to 600 ft/lbs. I can tow a single car trailer with it, right?>>28914291EVfags won't like this answer
>>28914499>POST 3 examples.here's 3 ive done in the last week
>>28914294Suck my dick faggot
>>28914526Have you considered not being inbred white trailer trash for 5 minutes or is that your entire personality?
>>28914532Wym? I drive brand new late model cars, these are just projects for fun, I do engine and transmission swaps constantly and solely for fun and enjoyment, it’s a hobby Dunno why 4chan isn’t letting me post images rn, I’ll try again later I have engine swaps to do right now and I’m not even kidding
>>28914284I think 1000 should be the minimum for a pickup now. One time I bought a truck and it only had 660 and it was horrible. Immediately tuned that fucker to where it should be and it’s wonderful with a load behind it. Of course this is a retarded thread of a retarded redditor and a retarded OP so I don’t know why I’m even saying this.
It's funny to me that everyone is complaining about how expensive cars are now, but also they're really worried about being able to tow a boat.
Ahhh back when men were men and even the sheep were nervous.
>>28914476Specific output, what even is it
>>28914374More torque does not make an engine more suited for towing. Retards think it does because they see big diesels in semis towing things and big diesels have a lot of torque as a result of being low-revving. It's duty cycle that's relevant for towing, and it's entirely possible for a lower-torque engine to have a higher duty cycle than a higher-torque engine. I'd take a naturally aspirated 6.9 IDI with 315 ft-lbs over an F1 V6 with 650 ft-lbs for towing, for example.
>>28914535>I drive brand new late model cars,Borrowing your uncles car when your shitbox wont start doesnt count. You've been caught lying so many times that I've lost count.Take your meth fueled dumpster build bullshit back to the trailer park.
>yuropoors think having something faster than a 100hp hatchback is a fascism
Hold my beer
>>28914284Why are you Euros so ignorant of the towing requirements in Europe vs the developed world? We have thing thing called tongue weight here which requires a heavier duty vehicle to handle that. You're expected to tow shit at 80mph here, not 80km/h. That requires a lot of torque AND HP. Then there's the actual loads. Lake boats can be well over 5000lbs and even the smaller travel trailers can be well over that despite being garbage quality rolling Ikea furniture.
>>28914526You're still a dogfucker and no one asked you a damn thing...
>>28914460> why do I care about going 15 above the speed limit.Because most places if you’re not going that fast some retard will eventually come flying up behind you and tear end you because they’re watching TikTok’s while driving
>>28914626I'm about 400 miles from my nearest relative
>>28915048here's a 24v donor for a 24v swap
>>28914420>acshually it's not torque >acshually it's about horsepower at low rpm>which means you need torque Don't let blud post ever again

>>28915077just because nips live like subhumans doesnt mean we have to
>>289147337th gen stronk
>>28914925Rear ends at speed are extremely rare
>>28914880>That requires a lot of torque AND HPPower IS torque x RPM.You need the torque at the wheels not (necessarily) at the crankshaft. So you need sustained (constant) power from the engine (because you want to tow over long distances not only for a short while, like passing) and a transmission that converts this power to torque at the wheels (which further convert it into pulling force at the trailer hitch).
>>28915226>You need the torque at the wheels not (necessarily) at the crankshaft. You can't make up for a lack of a TQ from and engine with gearing. Sure you could move a semi truck with your moms vibrator motor if you used enough gearing but you're going to be moving at 0.0005 mph. To move big and heavy things quickly you need TQ AND HP (from the engine).
>>28915861>You can't make up for a lack of a TQLol yes you can, that's the whole point of the transmission>you need TQ AND HP (from the engine)Having torque down low is the same as having horsepower down low, if you don't understand this concept, you don't understand power. You don't need a lot of engine torque if you can multiply it with the transmission but to tow at a fast rate, you do need a lot of horsepower. Having a lot of horsepower down low is an important factor in towing at highway speeds for extended periods of time not because of capacity or capability but for duty cycle, building a lot of horsepower up top instead of down low produces a lot of heat and wear.
>>28915061Yea smoothbrain. You try and replace your engine with a steel beam loaded with 240,000 lb-ft torque applied to it and see how fast you go with all that torque and zero HP
>>28915048>>28915056Literal heaps of shit. Why are you such a failure?
