Why did vehicles get worse over the two decades despite major advances in technology?
in what ways did they get worse.
>>28914827in every way
>>28914838Considering vehicles got faster, more fuel efficient, and are of way higher quality, you're wrong.is this just another nostalgia fag thread?
>>28914821>>28914821Well everything has gotten worse over the last two decades, so why should vehicles be any different? Maybe the major advances in technology were part of the problem and 2006 was peak humanity?
>>28914838Cars got faster, more fuel efficient, and are now higher quality than ever on average. so you're wrong. Is this just a nostalgia fag thread?
>>28914821The biggest problem I see is just less options and choices available overall than in the past. You can buy the full size truck, the gray Toyota crossover with a 1.3t or a Tesla Blob. Even if you want something more interesting, options from the factory itself corral you into packages that bump the price $20,000 because you wanted a color that isn’t monochromatic.

>>28914821They're not worse (mostly). Mechanical components last longer than ever if properly maintained. Of course there are examples of bad production such as Nissan's CVTs, Chevy's newer 6.2L v8s, etc..., but overall reliability is much higher than it was just 20 years ago. Its hiliarous how people just memory hole huge problems like Ford's older 5.blow, the 4.6 engines LITERALLY shooting spark plugs through the hood, Dodge's complete shit tier transmissions, Chevy's AFM in the 00s, etc... The thing is people don't WANT to keep their cars for long periods of time anymore because of consoooooomer culture.
>>28914821government regulations.Emissions requirements that could only be met with tiny turbo engines running extremely thin oil.Driver nanny systems that beep whenever you check the traffic on that upcoming intersection or slam on the brakes when it sees a pothole in the road were required "for the children if it saves one life".Collision regulations mandated very tall front and rear hoodlines, so all new cars look alike.
>>28914821Aluminum engine blocks, turbos, or all of the above. And manufacturers not recommending periodic enough oil changes to counter it. Just my 2c.
because humans are retarded and don't know when to stop implementing more technology into something
>>28914821Because of major advances in technology. They were built to extract maximum profits for your corporate overlords.
>>28914821aluminum blocks, turbos in an attempt to bring down weight and meet EPA standards. And manufacturers either stupidly or deliberately not recommending periodic oil changes enough (stretching to 10k miles). for the average wrenchie, that's irrelevant, but for everyone else it's probably a death sentence.i thought i replied already, but my post somehow went into the void.
>>28914821I think the main thing was bean counters relentlessly trying to increase profits through cost cutting measures leading to things like inbuilt obsolecence, coupled with cars becoming increasingly complicated leading to more failure points is the main thing. Safety regulations have made everything pigfat as well which kinda sucks. Then you have regulatory burdens placing engineering constraints, so you get overstressed undersized turbo engines that expire sooner than big N/A lumps, which aren't allowed bc they don't meet emissions regs. I'm increasingly drawn to towards barebones trucks and stuff like diesel mercedes from the 70s and 80s which can be infinitely repaired.
>>28914827The fact that "infotainment interface" is part of a fucking cars description is the first hint.

>>28914821previous owner of my Tacoma fucked this spot, weird parallel lines cut into the polymer. I have a ender so I am going to print a "patch" in black, fade it a little, and glue it to the back to make it less noticable.what should I emboss on the patch? some sort of plug instructions? Jap character? friendship windmill? whats in good taste?
>>28914903>what should I emboss on the patch?Chuck Norris

>>28914908>man who shook the hand of Benjamin NetanyahuDid he really??Holy shit.I'm gonna write him off too.
>>28914850sure thing retard
>>28914821Only thing that is worse is the inability for anon to fix them which to be honest, is pretty ass. Why can't I access my ecu from my centre console screen, surley that would just solve the problem and would not cost much to just build in but car companies want cars to be tied to a dealership mechanic for as long as possible.
>>28914821Marketing people.
>>28914821They got worse because of major advances in technology.
>>28915201This.Older cars were objectively worse - they tended to rust and required a lot of low-level maintenance. How many normies of today have ever held a spark plug in their hands despite driving a car with a gas engine for their whole life? But it's become much harder to work on cars today, systems are more complex and more locked down.

>>28915233>they tended to rustvisit the saltbelt sometime. a brand new nucar in new york for example is typically ready for the junkyard due to structural rust after 8-10 years.
>>28914827>>28914821toyota. no joke, their existence ruins the innovation of the entire industry, by acting as a black hole for money that could be used for engineering
>>28914821Cars became over regulated
>>28915119in the 80s and 90s, you'd be lucky if a manufacturer was even willing to admit there was a fault and not just let it blow over. Look up how much shit Mitsubishi covered up with their cars. you have no idea how good we have it. recalls are a good thing, and when they don't happen, the fault still exist, the manufacturer is just ignoring it and hoping they don't get shit for it.
>>28914859They aren't HIGHer quality THOUGH
>>28915308That was the problem in the 00's and 10's. The new automated systems are way under regulated and can easily cause more problems than they solve.

>>28915420t. Hasn't used old cars
Watch car chase scenes in movies from two decades ago and the cars would bash into each other and suffer a lot of damage and keep going but a modern car would fall apart and be immobile if it hit a shopping trolley.

>>28914821Other than every fucking manufacturer focusing on profit versus durability and customer retention?Huh, no idea.
They haven't gotten worse. People are just more retarded. Lasting 200k was a thing back in the day. Now any 20k shitbox will do that with ease.Thinking cars are less reliable now is nothing more than boomer tier ignorance from retarded wrenchlets.
>>28916010oh man anon you couldn't have picked a worse image. people are claiming that guy backed up to take clout pics, but apparently what may have happened was that the kia hit a chevy pickup first before hitting the chryslerolder cars are built solid BUT that means the energy in a crash just goes straight into the people inside.i daily an old barge but honestly i'd like a collapsible steering column and shoulder belts.
>>28916025>older cars are built solidthis was precisely my pointthe jews didn't like people getting away form the police so easily so they made cars more fragile so they can be immobilised more easily
