Anons, if I sell my 2012 883 Iron Harley, how much should I ask?
Mechanically speaking- it’s fine. Starts, runs, drives, shifts fine. I just never drive it. It’s got ape hangers, screaming eagle exhaust kit, needs a new front tire, and the rear breaks probably need replacing cause they just don’t work. It’s got about 10k miles.
Thinking about putting in the ad “will trade for chopper.”

>>
>>28914951
The problem is the contols. Twin stick isn't too far off from simulating sttering wheel + throttle/brake, and shoulder buttons can do an automatic, or even a manual if you ditch the analog nature of a clutch.

But on a bike, you've got steering + lean, and a wet clutch needs to be fucking analog (maybe sports bikes only do dry clutches, not my lane). And then you've got throttle plus 2 sets of brakes with different effects on the bikes handling. There's not enough analog controls and you wouldn't have enough fingers anyway.

And then how do you satisfy the sim autists who want an actual real vontrol set?
>>
>>28914966
$2000. Don't trade for a fucking chopper. Just see how much its going for in your area on craigslist or something. See what IDV for your bike is, don't ever take less than that.

ok sorry anons i have a stupid question:
hipotetically speaking i decide to do a multi day trip across the TET and i'm a really cool dude and i hit puddles and mud like a pro and get all my bags pants and boots caked in mud. once i reach the point i want to eat something hot or it's end of the day and i need to reach where to sleep wtf do i do? ask them to hose me down a bit in the middle of the road/parking lot?
And if i'm not a pro and i'm a bit of a disgrace for all the offroad riders out there and slip in said puddles and mud and like become a proper mess and i'm seriously caked in it?

SHIT THREAD NOT POSTING MY BAIK
>>

Kek. I had a CR500 for about 2 months in 1998. Probably only hit WOT half a dozen times, would bring it with my XR400 just for posture and the odd 'If you can kickstart it, you can ride it' challenge. Sold it after I was called out, the angry bitch kicked so hard on my me it blew a fucking hole in my gumboot and sprained my ankle.
When man can chuck on a swann-dri, stubbies and gumboots to ride their bike, but it almost kills them on the sidestand, is it still a bike?
>>

>Since you are a rich fag
anon i'm poor as fuck i was gonna stay in the shittiest motels and just eat sandwiches and one hot meal at the end of the day, i just don't want to leave dirt behind me it would be rude to the owners and wagies working there.
>>
>>28915166
>'If you can kickstart it, you can ride it'
Sit on bike, turn on gas and choke, click tranny to second gear, push-pull bike forward and back about 4 times (moves cylinder up and down drawing in fresh air/fuel, shift to neutral, press kick starter down slowly to find TDC, bleed off a little pressure, kick quickly and it starts easily. No need to try and kick full compression. If it does not start on first cycle, just repeat. You can start it very easily and quickly with that routine. I learned to race MX on that bike. Once in a while I hit sharp bump and flicked the throttle accidently and the power would just explode.
>>
>>28915147
If don't want to add dirt to parkinglot, do it at the side of the road near the motel where there is dirt. Don't worry about dirt in hotel room as it will be inside a garbage bag. I would try to air my gear out, but I'm leaving that as a task for you to figure out.
>>

>>28915173 This reply was for you.
>>
>>28915171
That's the kicker. I've even had people try to kick-start my XR400 and just about launch themselves over the bars, "It's seized?!".
The throttle control is what got me. Having a small bomb at your beck and call is all well and good, but my muscle memory had been 4t for 20 years. A nice gentle, linear curve. Cresting a root system just as the band hits?
>>
>>28915143

The state of DBT, I don't even get called a wrenchlet. Whats wrong with my front brakes brothers? you have patchy deposits of brake pad material on the rotors, that you wouldn't be able to see.

this causes low speed bike lurch (headbanging)
at higher speeds it smooths out
the brake lever isnt pulsing because the rotor isn’t physically warped

the pads could have got overheated at some point, or when they were new pads they weren’t bedded in properly or the bike sat for a while

to fix it you either need new pads and rotors and bed the new pads properly...
or you can try to lightly sand the rotors (scotch-brite or fine emery), then clean with brake cleaner
on a flat surface, lay some sand paper down flat and scrub each brake pad on top to get rid of the glaze

Put your front wheel in the air
Loosen the axle nut, pinch bolts, caliper mounting bolts, and the front fender bolts.

Bounce the front end on the ground a couple times to realign the components.
Spin the front tire then clasp the front brake over and over.
Torque pinch bolts to hold axle
Torque axle bolt
Torque calipers
Torque fender bolt.

If its still being weird, try grabbing the front brake lever and keep it held with a zip tie. Leave the zip tie on overnight and take it off in the morning. Your brakes should feel perfect, if they're significantly better then you have air in your brake system if it doesn't then you have a leak somewhere.

Lastly try some compressed air and blow out the brake pads and the floating bushings on your disc rotor (assuming they're floating disc's)

Could also just be a misaligned brake pad support bracket, the tiny metal thing that comes with brake pads.

but the pins* are stuck in there. the pins stay attached to the circuit board.
if you have the locking tab unlocked, gently move the connector side to side, back and forth, and try to wiggle it free

wd40 leaves an oil residue, which you dont want on something that needs to make electrical contact.
wd40, the brand, makes electrical contact cleaner though... so does crc, you can buy it from any car parts store

The fortnine video was like whiplash because I distinctively remembered Ryan taking a firm stance against China in his Honda 4 S' video.

Authoritarian regimes will never reward or make insenstives to push out anything of quality because those systems only reward volume and turnaround times. You don't have autonomy to speak up out of line to correct a qualilty control error because in those societies you will face punishments that last long outside the workspace.

I was very disappointed in Ryan about the China bike video. It's like he threw his spine away entirely. Yammienoob is a nu-slop enjoyer so there's no suprise there that he's a sucker but to be so clueless about the malignant quality attached to chink bikes is just foolish if not outright nefarious.

Fuck the Chinese
Fuck the chinashills
Fuck the broke posers who buy chink shit

Def change the oil before you go looking for other problems. What you are describing could be caused by the clutch dragging, which could happen from old oil. Even though you don't have a lot of miles, it's been in there evaporating and collecting condensed water that hasn't had a chance to evaporate out because the bike doesn't spend a lot of time with the oil hot.
Also it would suck if you spent time chasing a problem that turned out to be oil.
Put some Rotella in it.
>>
>>28915526
>Engineering integrity is a product of the free world, not Authoritarianism.
You're angrily agreeing with him. He liked the bike, in so far as he appreciated what Kove had done in bringing a late 2000s dakar race bike to market, but he still called out the lying about the 800's weight, everything they left off the bike relative to other mid size offerings, the frame longevity issues, the cam problems (which are technically KTMs but Kove made their bed so now they get to sleep in it), and the unavoidable contradiction in selling a Dakar race bike as a travel bike. Shit man, he spends the last chunk of that video explaining how he thinks China is running out of runway regarding trying to undercut their competitors who are already using Chinese parts assembled in countries with cheaper labor costs than some CN factories.

What else do you want? Him mugging at the camera while "china bad" blinks in bold red text above him?

I have the same problems, riding with other people is fun if you have the same "spirit" otherwise it just becomes racing down the streets with other people and at that point might as well do it alone at your own pace.

I like to try scout some scenic views or weird places but it's been a bit since i've been out sightseeking with the camera, i saw there is a sherman tank in a nearby town and i always tell myself i shoul go take a pic of 'ku in front of it (even if it's on a pedestrian pass in a not so scenic place) for starters since they are both green.

i remember a chain of posts some time ago where some anons where like posting their bike in front of a lighthouse or a boat and others anons where doing the same. that could be a fun thing to try do.

i also technically downloaded the geocache app thingy and i was thinking of trying that too just to go in unusual places but i never tried it

>instead of making your bike a chopper
>Why not build your own?
Yeah, no like I get that; but my thing is like if I can look on marketplace and find a sweet little chopper for say 5 or 6 grand- maybe even one with a kick starter (I’ve had dirt bikes, I love kickers). It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense if I can sell my bike for 3k, then turn around and buy one outright for say 5k. Plus at the end of the day, I simply don’t have the mechanical knowledge to do it on my own. I mean we’re talking-
>taking the engine out along with basically everything else
>chopping and welding the frame
>paint
>new tires and wheels
>new forks
>new seat
>new tank
>new fender
That’s at least everything I’d wanna do to mine. Even if I had someone to help me, you’re still talking more than it’d be to just sell mine and put a little more towards one already done.

I can't speak to the others, but yeah, the 450mt was astroturfed fucking HARD. So many youtube people calling a fucking 450 twin a "forever" bike just to sell it 12 months later. Because I have to make content, you know? And who really ever would keep their favorite bike of all time?

apparently it's some kind of "good boy trajectory marker" to make sure bikers don't ride too close to the center so that when they lean they don't risk getting hit by a car or bus coming the other way on narrow, some european countries starting placing them on some dangerous turns

The condensation bit makes a lot of sense - after about 40 mins of street speeds yesterday I did notice the shifts got better (not ideal though). I chalked it up to the oil heating up and becoming less viscous.
Bike had to spend the winter in an unheated shed.
Before I get the new oil (and filter, depending on how dirty the oil looks), would taking it for a ride, and then, when parking, removing the oil cap and covering the hole with a cloth help boil off some of the condendsate out of the crank case, or is that just placebo?

>diesel oil
Unfortunately don't own the ex army diesel bike lol

He played softball bro, if you think I'm irrational for finding his video cringe then maybe you're just a Chang glazer.

Matter of fact, why bother with the video at all if he was staunchly against the Chinese brands? Where was all his energy from the Honda Video?

I was disappointed in Ryan/F9. It wouldn't suprise me if he shills that chink V4 when it's out.

>Guys the cams may turn to cheese but if you just do a heckin oil change then it totally resolves this inherit design flaw
>Guys so, it seems the Chinese lied but I'm going to entertain all of the okay aspects anyway

Ryan's a smart dude, so it's bewildering to see his intellect in such a dormant if not timid state of chink shilling. Does he have no principles or just not courageous enough to G check the Chinese / Sucka ass consumers who push CFmoto/insert chink brand here.

Gentlemen i am pleased to announce that we are so fucking back
My KLR sprang a hell of a leak from the gas tank, so I spent the downtime rebuilding the carb and getting the airbox all back to stock parts. Also got a new improved petcock and installed a fuel filter. Plastics kept on by zipties, gas tank welded and then JB welded. I love my shitbike so much

Honda gave you a damper-rod fork instead of cartridge forks because everyone (except KTM) shits on the newbies. Damper rods have fixed metering holes, and fixed holes are soft at slow speed but harsh at high speed. So they make it too soft to prevent dive and slop but at least it won't skate out from under you when there's bumps or ripples in a corner.
You can get a cartridge emulator, which adds a spring-loaded flat valve for compression. Which works better then you would think. Sometimes you can fit the cartridge or fork tubes or the entire front end from a different bike, but that tends to be pricey.
Super cheap option is thicker oil in the forks, and live with harsh suspension over bumps. But that kinda sucks.
I have emulators in my sv650, was worth it.

You have to sell your soul to be a motorcycle content creator. You ether constantly break the law and sell merch while e-beging. Or you shill for brands and never say anything bad ever about them under threat of losing access to test rides and press events. All while being a whore to the YT algorithm.

I'm also convinced riding all those review bikes curses them to a life of never being fully satisfied with any bike they ride for life.

I'm debating whether to get a track toy or a cruiser, but I'm in my 50s so I'll probably just get the cruiser and slow down in my old age.

Are you not allowed to park on the sidewalk? Or is there simply no sidewalk to park on?

The only place we can't park on the sidewalk is in the CDB but they've given us allocated motorcycle parking spaces.
>>
>>28915955
It is amazingly fun, but then a lighter bike like the new Pani V2 or the Hyper would be more fun desu. The V4 is big and heavy and all about the engine especially when all the tracks near me a fairly tight and twisty.
>>

You're a big guy so I'm sure you can handle it.
How many times have you nearly died while commuting on it?
>>
>>28915972
None, chucking it in street mode limits the power to 150 and it's quite sedate.
It can be a bit annoying to lane filter with it due to the limited steering.

My last bike was an MT09 so it was a bit of a change.
>>
>>28915975
How long did it take you to realise that swapping the MT09 for the Ducati (for commuting) was an error in judgement?

How much do you think it’d run total?

The MT09 is plenty powerful enough for commuting but ofc

Hopefully ill have a top end rebuilt git on the way and just set aside what i dont need, thinking 2 or 3 extra piston rings
Buddy said itll be less than $500 maple syrup tokens
Anyways, had some fun, not enjoying the wiring or thougts of reassembly for that
At least i have access to the topend moreso and see if i can open er up or if i should just take it all out

Guys what scrapyard do i look for a bike for a donor rear shock absorber for my fatass?
I was reccommended to do that so i might scout out some donor bikes or parts if theyres any laying on the floor

Its that or rally aids from auSTEALia
