On a fundamental level they simply have more material. They're usually not that much more expensive. A base K4 vs Seltos is only a $2k difference.

Common platform based CUVs are a bit more expensive to manufactore due to higher cars needing a bit more steel and stronger pillars to hold the roof in a rollover.But the main reason is that customers who buy these are willing to pay a premium for example with CX-30 compared to a Mazda 3 hatch.
