25 year old Boxsters.. what are we thinking? I want a fun car to care for and cherish since I don't know how to get a gf
>>
Pretty solid outside of the IMS bearing.
>>
Yeah but then you gotta deal with those shitty boxer engines

Not worth. You'll have more fun hunting for a girlfriend than that thing.

At this point if the being bearing was bad it would have either been fixed or totaled

None of the 986 have bore scoring?
>>

neither of these are really issues if you drive them often.
you can fix IMS for like $500 while you do clutch and rear main.
bore score is incredibly rare. if you let them sit for a while you can get bore score cause the oil all returns to the sump and you run a few rotations dry, so just drive the car

i have one, they're fun if you don't mind the barely 200hp. on backroads they're a blast and convertibles are so much fun. the maintenance is expensive though, cause most of the parts are shared with the 996. and you will need to do maintenance, either you buy a garage kept 20k example with all the rubber rotten and the aforementioned issues, or you buy a high mile one with a bunch of wear items in need of replacement. learn to wrench and spend a little less on doordash and you should be okay.

oh wait you said 25 year old boxsters. if you get a 2000-2004 you don't have to worry about IMS at all, they fixed it
>>

It will never make sense to buy the 986 instead of the 996. Parts and labor practically identical for that gen, boxster will never hold/gain the value 911 will
>>
>>28915683
the trick is to get one that's already been totalled by it for cheap and stick a superior subaru engine in its place
>>
>>28915700
I think only the bigger engines in the Carrera had that
>>
I've always heard Porsche maintenance costs the same regardless of model. So you can buy a cheap 986 but your maintenance costs will be the same as of you bought a 718.

>25 year old Boxsters.. what are we thinking?

A decade ago I owned a 2002 986 S. It was the most reliable sportscar I've owned. Not fast in a straight line but handling wise it feels surprisingly similar to "real" Porsches I've driven like a 996 GT2 and 997.2 GT3 RS. Considering how cheap it is thats pretty good value.
>>
The Boxster was and still is NARP (Not A Real Porsche).

The same thing we've always been thinking about the boxter. They're for people who can't afford 911s
>>
If you couldn't afford it new, you can't afford it used. And there's literally zero reason to dump money into *any* old germoid shitbox when you could just lease new for the same cost at the enddaday

Feel free to post a link to a brand new Boxster lease that's cheaper than buying a 986 outright.

Has issues, but not unfixable ones.

he can't, because porsche stopped making them
>>
>>28916260
I don't think I've ever seen a Boxster with the transmission swapped for a Subaru engine before.

Buy a hard top .upgrade the suspension and replace those plastic hoses into silicone ones.check all those fluids and filters on this car.beside those.you will get a really funny car that let you drive
