Toyota engine dead @ 38k miles. What is happening with these engines and why did they ditch the V8 for this turbo'd V6 engine? There is a massive recall on these plastic Toyota engines now.>BIG DESIGN FLAW? Toyota 3.4L V35A Twin Turbo V6 Premature Engine Failure & Comprehensive Teardown! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL4tIHf_9i8
toyota will never recover from this
>>28917049It's the zero weight oil. Small turbo engines are necessary to meet emission requirements.
>>28917068>It's the zero weight oil>I checked and it's trueKek does Toyota really? 0W-20 oil? Seriously? It's like Toyota wants their engines to fail. Also>Check online owner's manual for maintenance schedule and specs>It refers to the warranty and maintenance manual>Check online warranty and maintenance manual>It refers back to owner's manualYikes
>>28917068>>28917077They only use that shit in the US market right?I'm pretty sure they tell their Japanese and Euro customers to use real oil. Trump needs to nix this stupid regulation ASAP.
>>28917049I believe Toyota changed the bearing material and design without telling anyone.Everything has a new part number now.>>28917077Your bait is bad, but basically every automaker is using 0w-20 or lighter.
Everyone called the UR and GR "outdated" and "obsolete" so nu-Toyota went full speed with pozzing their lineup. You reap what you sow, assholes.
>>28917201ahh JZ and UZ what nice engines you were. Wonder what toyota's naming convention actually was before moving to TNGA. Only just realised now the UR and GR both have the same last letters much like the UZ and JZ
>>28917068And what is wrong with zero weight oil? Why do you want your oil to be thicker when it's cold? 0w40 is God's engine oil.
>>28917240My 10w30 flows perfectly fine at -40. Oil thins out as it heats up so it's alright to start out a little thicker.
>>28917240This.High viscosity when cold can quickly kill your engine. It's debatable, whether the viscosity at operating temperature shouldn't be too low.So 0W-40 is probably a sweet spot.
>>28917243>My 10w30 flows perfectly fine at -40How did you end up with this assessment? You know, you could start out thinner and end up with the same viscosity once it's heated up if you switch to 5w30 or 0w30.
>>28917248Super hot 5w30 gets too thin for my liking.
>>28917247my bearing clearances are fucked so i need 50 weight else the oil pressure light flickers on at idle lol
>>28917049>me with the flawless i4 iforce max
>>28917049The cost of boost
>>28917277Im boooooosting
>>28917137How is it bait?>every automaker is using 0w-20And is every automaker having massive engine recalls from spun bears and other nonsense out of new engines and pinning the blame on "leftover debris?" You're not one of those Toyotacel shills, are you?
>>28917049>What is happening with these enginesdesigned in dallass and manufactured in huntsville alabamer>why did they ditch the V8 for this turbo'd V6 engineobama
>>28917049>why did they ditch the V8 for this turbo'd V6 engine?Emissions, you should already know that. Those old V8s were quite literally indestructible, million mile motors. >>28917077>0W-20 oil?Even waterier shit than that is starting to be used now. At the rate these are failing, I don't think changing 0w20 for 5w30 or higher is an actual fix to the actual problem anyway.
Truck drivers deserve nothing less than a shotgun blast under the chin
>>28917455My Corolla uses 0w20 oil and it has 356,000 mi on it. Not every automaker is having massive engine failures.
>>28917711>Not every automaker is having massive engine failures.Toyota is at least.
>>28917722Are you gonna post like a nigger or have a white mans' conversation? We've been using 0w-20 since the early 2010s.If the engine and the bearing tolerances are designed around it; it's not a problem. GMs 6.2L failures are due to improperly machined bearing surfaces. Totota V6 engine failures are being caused by inadequate bearing size. Those massive Hyundai and Kia engine recalls were also due to poor machining quality.Got nothing to do with the oil.
>>28917049They STILL didn't fix this problem since 2019. I guess a new engIne design would be the fix.J U N K UNK
>>28917456Toyota is so bad. They can't design a new engine unless they're directly copying someone. The A series 4 cyl doesn't have problems, because it's copy of the Mazda Skyactiv, well no problems besides the first few thousand that had the wrong size pistons installed. Dur
>>28917049Goyota is not a reliable brand anymore. Enjoy your planned obsolescence goyslop vehicle.
>>28917722>I drive a Corolla>immediately posts something about the Tundra and LX recallsThis is your brain on the Big Three.
>>28917920That's literally what the OP is about lol
>>28917758>Toyota is so bad. They can't design a new engine unless they're directly copying someoneYup.>>28917779>Goyota is not a reliable brand anymore. Enjoy your planned obsolescence goyslop vehicle.Unfortunately not anymore.
>>28917068The 0W isn't the issue, the 20 part is.>0WMeans it flows great when cold, if have a winter where you live, you want 0W or 5W oil.Otherwise it will get super thick and not flow properly on a cold start.>20That's how thin it gets when hot, for your average car you want this to be at least 30.40-50 for higher stressed or worn engines.Thinner saves a little fuel by reducing friction, but even hypermilers don't do that because the oil film in the bearings gets too thin.TL;DR5w30 in summer0w30 in winter5w40 in hot summer10w60 in summer on the track
>>28917732Nonsensical semi-colonShould be a comma0w20 is goyslop, by the way
>>28917732>inadequate bearing size>improperly machined bearing surfacesThicker oil can compensate for that a bit.
>>28917118>Trump needs to nix this stupid regulation ASAP.he already did, how do you people not know this by now. gotta be chatgpt or something.
>>28918375a lot of very reliable engines used to use 20w50 though. it's all about what it was designed to use
>>28918636In hot climates with an engine designed for it, that's a very reasonable viscosity. In places with an actual winter, 20W will not flow properly at all and cold starts will be absolute hell on the engine. And for every car there is usualy a table of what viscosity range is suggested at wich temperature range. The main issue with 0W20 or 0W12 is that these require super tight tolerances, perfect surface finishes and good temperature management. And often they are picked over a slightly thicker grade to lower fuel consumption by a tiny amount on paper, while manufacturing does not reliably reach the required tolerances for such oils.
>>28917049Combustion engines are clownshoes-tier Rube Goldberg machines that cause explosions throughout the chain (then cooling, rinse/repeat), all just to drop a little bit of catfood in a bowl at the end. If you saw this type of technology on the scale of a house, you'd laugh at it. But every thinks it's cool because the car goes VROOM. All of the over-engineering since their advent has mostly been about heat management and regulations, making them ever more complex. You should be grateful that they run at all and then move to an EV.
>>28918105that guy moneyshifted. only way to prevent that is to make every car an automatic
>>28917049Those are tiny main bearings for a turbo V6 engine. Also, turbo engines just need higher oil weights.
>>28917455>every automaker having massive engine recallssource: made up shit from a busrider
>>28917068>>28918375It's not the oil, engines are junk now, pic rel has been weight weight hot since 2001, and now all the 20 weight you buy is 0W when cold, and they still run.
>>28919411>weight weight20 weight hot
>>28917455some manufacturers had problems like this and just decided it was part of routine maintenance
