Has anybody driven one of these? Just sold my 5.0 mustang and want something else. Got my eyes on a 1997 viper. Any advise?
>>
don't unless you can afford to maintain it

Get a gen 3.
They're cheaper, more reliable, faster, and have abs.

>abs
Pussy poser detected, opinion discarded.
>>28917242
Buy really good tires, buy exhaust wrap to protect the side body panels inside, have fun and don't be a bitch boy
>>
>>28917242
You will be horribly disappointed going into one these after a modern 5.0
>>
Poooosy magnet sir girl love to open vagain for snake!!
>>
I did and it was shit

If you’re after nostalgia then that will do it. Keep in mind they’re getting harder to find parts for and you will pay an arm and a leg for things like the hood. Not sure I would’ve given up a 5.0 for a Gen 2 Viper but I also get that the heart wants what the heart wants. Found a clean Gen 2 and briefly entertained the idea of trading my Hellcat in on it before logic and reason took over.

A 30yo car?
You’re good. Nothing to worry about.

>>28917489
Fag of truth here. This is extremely true. But BUT. BIG GAY BUTT. you will get more attention in this. Get ready. Hope you’re gay. Men flock to this with hardons.

You're gonna need to do 7-10k of work to make it a weekend car. More if you daily it. And 3x more if you track it.

Isn't it just a big truck engine in a car? I don't think maintenance will be that big of an issue.

>>28917489
why?
>>
>>28917482
>Calls people a pussy and a bitch
>Tells op to wrap the exhaust incase it gets hot
Lel how womanly
>>
>>28918364
i.e. you're clueless.
>>
>>28917242
Don't do it. They have inferior manuals as opposed to superior autos
>>
>>28918364
It's to prevent the body panels from cracking due to thermal expansion you stupid bitch
>>
>>28918585
Also, helps accidentally melting your shoe on there if you graze the kick panel.
>>
>>28918255
It's a bespoke engine that shares overall body plan but very few actual parts with the truck engine, although it's so understressed that it's reportedly stupidly reliable, in a bespoke chassis full of parts bin parts. It's a russian roulette, it can be extremely cheap to fix or extremely expensive to fix, with nothing inbetween.

the hood (usually cost 10-15k to replace) is the most expensive thing on a Viper besides the engine itself. if the engine is good and the hood isn't damaged, those are the two most expensive things you'll encounter. the rest of the repairs/maintenance won't top more than a few grand.

It's the parts availability that's the bigger problem.

>why?
The car is weird to explain. You can kick the rear end out going 5mph and like half throttle. The torque is insane. On the flipside, it is not a fast car. It feels like you could scratch out a 12.9 if every star aligned. It also feels like you could scratch out a 12.9 if you were towing a house behind it.

t. mine.

-Its not a daily driver
-Its not a daily driver
-It is TIGHT in both seats. Shit for elbow space
-1st gear is russian roulette if the tires spin on you or not
-Gen 1 Interior was dated when it was brand new because of frankenstein dodge parts

People keep asking about these in here, but its up to YOU to go test drive it and determine if its right for you. Self-explanatory imo
>>
>>28919116
holy shit, the DSM dwarfs the viper.
>>
>>28919116
but torque wins races don't ya know
>>
>>28919401
What, a fuckin tractor pull race? lmaoo
>>
>>28919409
once a viper enters a race, it becomes one
>>

>It also feels like you could scratch out a 12.9 if you were towing a house behind it.
this is my use case
