>newer cars alone are expensive as fuck
>newer parts for newer cars are expensive as fuck
>older parts for older cars are expensive as fuck because they’re rare
>every car made in the past 10 years can’t even be worked on at home, need to bring it into dealership
>every old car that is actually somewhat cheap, and able to be tuned up at home is mostly a heap of rust or on its way out

cars are now a rich kid hobby that involves buying expensive cars and having dealerships fix them if something goes wrong. nothing less and nothing more.
complete waste of time and cash.

imagine a future where every single vehicle is electric. the used car market would be dead because nobody would buy a used car with a dead battery that only holds ten percent of it's charge. and replacing the battery would cost similar to a new car.

it's over for cars. bikes and public transport are the way forward.

Every time I'm thinking of selling my turdgen someone either posts a turdgen or talks in superlatives about one and it resets my internal timer to sell it. It's like it's eternal journey to page 10.
>>
>>28917979
I don't think you realize that all of the 90s tuning icons that people get nostalgic about were also expensive as fuck back in the day.
>>
I get why young people aren't concerned with getting their drivers license. The market for entry-level cool cars used to include options like the Focus/Fiesta ST, Camaro, Mazdaspeed 3, Charger, and 370z, but now all of those are discontinued or moved up to a higher price bracket. Because the new market for cheaper cool cars is a fraction of what it used to be, the existing ones on the used market retain their value more, so you're still going to pay $10,000 for a beat to shit Z on it's 4th owner.

If you weren't old enough to have your shit together before 2020, it's not even worth playing the game.

I think this is the perfect time for the DIY car hobby to take off. If cars are gay and unaffordable then make your own.

You can literally buy an American hypercar that does 0 to 60 and half the time of the car in your picture And it costs $70,000.

here's one in florida, i wouldnt get mad if someone beats me to it. everything you mentioned is pretty inexpensive + easy to get

the bigger issue is lack of money + rising insurance costs. insurance is rape for anyone living remotely to a big city or in a weird state like louisiana/michigan/florida. cars also cost a lot of money and compete with cheaper hobbies like videogames and traveling and theyre a tremendous money sink
>>
>>28917979
Funny. All my zoomer cousins are into cars and modifying theirs. Sure they may be 4cyl shitboexes but it's a start and beats sitting on a bus and bitching about not being able to afford a shitbox.

i still see zoomers street racing up and down the old windy highway on the outskirts of the city. seems to mostly be the same stuff, accords, civics but now also corollas
>>
>>28917979
Just say your a wrenchlette bro. Cars have always been expensive no matter the decade. It's never been more easier to buy whatever turbo crap box and download more horsepower
>>
>>28921379
Gotta use what you got I guess. It would be nice if there were more used and affordable pony/muscle cars as an option for cheap speed for beginners like back in the day. Sadly it seems like most of those wind up in the hands of the watermelon people and subsequently the scrap yard.
>>
>>28918129
Some of these are a serious stretch. Z8, R8, and NSX that barely even appeared in their movies? Surely they could have come up with something more iconic those. How about the 2000GT convertible from You Only Live Twice? Or Misato's A310?
>>
>>28917979
Cool story OP.
I just got a new set of 335/30R18 RE71RZ heat cycled and shaved to 4/32in.
Then scheduled 3 track days next month.

Sucks you have no money.

Same argument millennials made when they graduated during the global recession.
Same shit different era.
>>
>>28921426
Do the organizers require street tires? Why would you not buy rcomps or slicks instead of paying to have street tires shaved?
>>
>>28921453
I've run Hoosier A7/R7 before.
It's basically a lifespan thing.
One set that lasts 1hr on track vs a set that lasts 5-6hrs on track.
I don't feel like changing tires that often.
Places like Firestone or Discount tire don't mount slicks.
So I have to find race shops and race shops are always hella busy.
>>
>>28921463
>>I've run Hoosier A7/R7 before.
Both? Because those are different compounds and R7 will last a lot longer. And Hoosier makes harder compounds as well. A hard rcomp or slick like RC-1 or the Hoosier enduro slicks will give you a lot more life than a shaved super 200, especially if you don't want to risk cutting a track day short.

>>Places like Firestone or Discount tire don't mount slicks.
Skill issue. I've had slicks mounted at fucking Walmart. Just don't expect them to put them on a car. As long as they're going in the back of your truck or on a tire trailer, they don't give a shit.
>>
Get a bike.
>But muh safety
There will be none if you want to have fun

The truth is that younger generation already lives in you will own nothing and be happy world or the project 2020 or what have you world.
The good times have ended now if you want automotive fun on a budget you buy a shitbox for commute in bad weather and a bike for fun. $15k gets you a new mid displacement street bikes and gear, they will outrun everything but a supercar and other bikes.
>>
>>28921477
I've run both A7/R7s.
R7s last longer but still get chewed up on newer tracks with that diamond grind surface shit they do.
The Enduro Slicks are often slower than the super 200s.
Easier to get 200tw as well.
Hoosier is a dying company after Continental bought them.
They have shit for stock these days
&
I don't bring my race car to a shop, just bring the wheels.
But most tires places get hella weird when slicks are involved.
According to Discount Tire corporate, the manager of each location makes the call.
So get the wrong manager, and they can just say no.
And suddenly I have to miss a track day because of it.

>>

>The Enduro Slicks are often slower than the super 200s.
It's a track day, you're not supposed to win. Full depth street tires obviously aren't an option since they feel like shit and you'll never be consistent on them, but between rcomps, slicks, or shaved street tires it's just a matter of picking something with the right heat range and being consistent with it.
>Easier to get 200tw as well.
Where are you paying to have tires shaved that isn't a Hoosier distributor?
>But most tires places get hella weird when slicks are involved.
Have you tried not being a giga autist? I've never met a tireshop wagie I couldn't bribe with a pizza to give me a precision alignment to my exact specs. I've never had a problem with tires, but I doubt it's any harder.
>>
>>28921505
>you're not supposed to win
I'm there to set a good time anon.
Often times super 200s are faster and last longer.
Or at very worst are within 0.1-0.2 seconds and still last 2x as long.

>Where are you paying to have tires shaved
Tire rack will shave and cycle any tire you order.
It's $25 per tire.
Ez pz.

>Have you tried not being a giga autist?
I'm actually pretty good at acting these days.
Took my last GF 7 months to finally notice.
Can't be a Gigga Autist and still have multi GFs anon

I hate you anon. This piece of shit is a never ending money pit and I hate how it turns, most likely due to it having a steering gearbox and I've never had a car with one before.
But on the other hand it looks kewl and makes kewl noises and there's nothing else really like it.
>>
i hope in the future there will be custom bodies you can put on an ev frame, like c3 vette with 1000hp electric engine

Had a 5.0 firebird when I was a kid, absolute fucking shitheap it was, cylinders filled with water every morning despite decked block and heads, new gaskets and plugged sparkplug threads.
Also slow as all shit despite being a manual, like holy hell.
>>
>>28921730
Mine's a 5.7. The quickness isn't the issue but the irredeemably terrible steering is. It feels like pulling a rubber band to turn the car. Other than that the car's kewl.
>>
>>28921837
I had a 2.2 litre Turbo II LeBaron GTC before the Firebird and traded it 7n because "this fwd 4 banger is gay, gimmie a real car."
Next year I got a similar LeBaron and sold the Firebird, never looking back at GM.
Admittedly I've been fantasising about a C4 corvette or a chebby caprice, especially if I could find a Schutzstaffel Impala, but they're kinda rare in yurop.
>>
>>28921848
The C4 was the other option I was considering but I like the turdgen Firebird more visually although I would have probably enjoyed driving it more.
I also have a second gen Probe GT and that handles like a spaceship compared to the Firebird. I cannot overstate how horrible the steering on an F body is.
>>
>>28921563
>Often times super 200s are faster and last longer.
>Or at very worst are within 0.1-0.2 seconds and still last 2x as long.
Super 200s don't last for shit. A full depth RC-1 will last easily 4x longer than a shaved RE71. Doesn't matter if you give up a second if you're the only person you're comparing yourself to.

>Tire rack will shave and cycle any tire you order. It's $25 per tire.
Are they not a Hoosier distributor?

>I'm actually pretty good at acting these days
So why do you have so much trouble convincing wagies to do their job?
>>

you may want to check out borgeson's steering boxes. they have a quick ratio 12.7:1 box that also has much better response/feedback, it's as close as you'll get to rack and pinion.

>cars are a (...) complete waste of time and cash.
