>download software update on pc
>copy it to flash drive
>unplug flash drive walk out to car
>plug in flasg drive and hit series of buttons to start update
>complain about the update preventing you from driving

Oh, and forgot this part:
>presses "continue" after on screen warning that he won't be able to drive for 30 minutes
>>
>>28918800
Why does a vehicle need a software update in the first place?

Muh ota muh software defined vehicle

Buzz words for we are making you the beta tester

Thre of these over the air updates have radically changed how my car shifts and drives.
>>
>>28918920
my kia just did it to update the maps

>>28918938
it took like 5 min on mine and it was annoying but not that bad and I could have waited to do it

At worst, they make you beta test the "infotainment" parts. The critical RTOS underneath that will just be tweaks. The kind of shit that will get you killed and companies sued into the dirt if they beta tested. Some of these operating systems are made by the same folks making systems for planes too. The whole point of them is to be predictable down to the milisecond, rather than many older car designs that relied on physical links and human reactions everywhere.

Screencap threads should be bannable.

No that's actual bullshit. Don't even need to explain why. I will resist any vehicle like this.

>retard doesn't know why software is updated
I can't believe I share a board with these technologically inept retards. I guess that's what happens when you add a million Indians to the internet per day.

The cars don't need to be connected to the internet, they do not need keyless entry, they do not need wireless communications, stop eating oxcarts of shit and trying to be smug about it
Because you look like a clown
>>
>>28919505
You don't need a car, either.
>>
eh, just go look at the dash thread, where the same boomers are crying about not having a million dials or switches to fiddle with when its 2010 + 16 years of the year of our lord when you can just go "hey siri/cortana/bixby, start playing joe rogan and find me the closest route to the nearest liquor store, stop telling my to put my seatbelt on im opening a beer with the seatbelt latch" before plowing into a schoolbus at 85 miles per hour

its just an "everybody is stupid" thing, nothing new or old.

Anyone smart enough or care enough to look up how these software updates actually change things like battery communication and heating/cooling performance? Like what kind of code would you write and how would it actively improve the A/C system?
>>
>>28919590
It's mostly efficiency calculations and remapping based on real-world data. Occasionally they find some trick to improve the protocol they previously missed.
>Like what kind of code would you write and how would it actively improve the A/C system?
Temperature gradients and variance. Blasting the AC at 16c is all well and good but wouldn't notice a bit of drift. Most units start at the stated temperature before 'relaxing' and allowing a degree or two of drift, because trying to hold the exact temperature is more power intensive. There's also things like "does the temperature sensors really need to update the system every 200ms or could we get away with every 10s". And who really cares if the back of the cabin is a degree or two higher?
>>
>>28919510
And the world doesn't need you
End yourself

If I want to do touchscreen voice command tech shit, I have my phone for that. The car's job is transportation. 3 knob climate control hasn't been topped. Adaptive cruise lowers mileage and wears brakes faster and trains drivers to be complacent. Lane departure assist further enables shitty drivers. Not all new tech is bad, but ~2010-present vehicles are trying too hard.

because the pajeets in bangalore they paid $8 per hour to write the code probably including hundreds of bugs that caused the gay interface to lock up or the compressor to not engage or race conditions that left the flaps in the wrong orientation. they paid some different pajeets in bangalore $8 per hour to use chatgpt to fix 20 of those bugs (and introduce 10 new ones in the process)

basically all software development now is a shitshow, thats why my car has manual everything
>>
>>28918920
Because manufacturers can release a half assed product and say theyll just fix it later, but they never do fix it later and dont have to spend the money making it properly in the first place.

Map updates I get, but software updates that prevent you from using your car are some dystopia bullshit.
>>
>>28919618
lmao like i said. cortana/siri/bixby....IS....your phone, you hook your phone to the cars media system to do this in the first place. again just people not understanding modern tech in the year of our lord 3026 - 1000

>he thinks cars come perfect out of the factory and have zero issues
>he thinks that having a free software update is worse than buying a whole new car the following year for the same fixes
>he is too incompetent to pick a short period of time where you can't drive the car whole doing maintanence
