If I wanted to buy an old 3 series, which model years should I avoid. What should I expect if I actually buy one?

Avoid everything from before 1990 and after 2000.

expect to have lots of sex.

Avoid the 325e. They're a neutered version of the 325i with a low-revving, low-compression six cylinder that's honestly not better than the 318i. Avoid the 2007 335i. They're impressive cars, sure, but they were unreliable when new. If you can work with it, great. Otherwise, get one of the more reliable N55 engines.

Your best bet is an E46. They're still common as hell for good reason. They're reliable as hell, with only cooling system problems and the DISA valve being routine problems.

Just avoid all of them and buy a better car

Uhh I dunno but the one in your picture is an E90 isn't it? Some guy showed up to deliver pizza in one and it didn't even last 2 months before the engine died a horrible death, and it had 1/3 the km of my accord

What's the point of this car when it's not fast and doesn't really do anything well besides generate repairs or use lots of gas

It was actually some rich shithead kid driving his mom's car with a baby seat in the back. It's a POS that blew the engine at 110k. It wasn't clapped out it was stock with a perfect body.

Kid himself was one of those shits that does little work as possible, is loud as possible, talked behind everyone's back and cheated on everything. Typical bmw owner that acts like a foreigner nigger.

Well maybe they shouldn't have bought a bmw with a peugeot engine
spend 5 minutes on wikipedia before buying a car

You want a E30, E28, E34 or E32. M20 or M30. Dead simple, you can fix the car with a rock. No VANOS.

If you're feeling adventurous you could buy a E34 540i or a E32 740i for the V8. It's probably the most reliable V8 BMW has made. Cunt of a thing to work on in the car though.

You're better suited with the 735i or, if you want to get nuts, the 750iL. The M30 is the single-best engine I have ever worked with. It's the engine so nice I bought it twice. Well, four times, if you want to get technical.

if you're able/willing to wrench on it, have fun.
otherwise, lol. just lol. lmao even.

Never buy the first model year (true of any car desu) and try to buy as late of a model as you can. Also don't buy the base models, they were usually leased as company cars and treated pretty rough.
