Back in 2000s convertibles were making a comeback. They sold much better in 2000s than in the 90s. There were so many cheap convertibles especially hardtop ones. Then in 2010s they all seemingly disappeared. Why?
>>28919996After the recession nobody had the money to have a fun car, even something cheap like a fwd convertible. Then SUVs became the standard and nobody wanted a compact sedan with only 2 doors and reduced trunk space. Economy coupes also died off during this time.
>>28919996the early 2000s were still feel good timesthen unironically Obama ruined everythingand when I say Obama i mean the ritualistic deployment of Obama
>>28919996>Then in 2010s they all seemingly disappeared.2008 market crash. Lots of "nice extras" in life disappeared.
>>28919996The movie Final Destinationscared everyone without them even knowing itwhen they saw a convertable they automatically think about dying
>>28920841I swear those movies were a psyop to make people obsess over incredibly unlikely and implausible dangers, instead of real things that could effect them
>>28921174i think you're confusing that with the BLM movement desu.
>>28920067Basically this. Although when you consider the development cycle for a new platform, the early cars from the early and mid aughts we're probably greenlit in the late 90s, before the 2001 WTC op that really defined the beginning of the end.
>>28921176No see blm is the real danger
>>28919996>most only have one daily vehicle so it NEEDS to be a jack of all trades i.e. CUV (even though it'll only ever be used for groceries)>everyone now coddled by climate control, so why drop the top and sweat/freeze instead of sitting in 72 degree weather year round? the glare is going to get all over the screens, too.>insurance on two doors allegedly more expensive>societies are now less high trust - soft tops get broken into, hardtop verts are expensive + high maintenance>it also opens you up to the panhandlers and crackheads roaming every other intersectionYou just have to look at it from the normie point of view. Meanwhile, I see people driving things like picrel in the middle of the rain and get just a bit jelly.
