>bro cars these days are so unreliablethen why is the average age of cars increasing? back in the day if a car lasted 100k miles or 5 years it was considered old Now a car is easily expected to last twice as lon.g
Wow, it's almost like oil is way better these days.
Everyone is poor New car sales are in the toilet they're at the same level as 40 years ago but there are 45% more people now The age if the average car is now much higher than it was
>>28921810>bro cars these days are so unreliableTo me this doesn't necessarily mean that the vehicle flat out stops running or can't drive. With some definite exceptions, you're correct that a drivetrain is now expected to last well beyond 100k miles with no more than routine maintenance. I see unreliability as a summation of smaller failures that don't kill a vehicle but make it a pain in the ass to deal with. Some of it is cheap designs and materials, like plastic bits that break and are a pain in the ass to replace or toothpick-thin stock sway bar links that break on the first pothole. Others are due to the complexity of modern vehicles, with power everything, complex HVAC setups, and tablets that are somehow linked to basic functionality. When those break down, it's not only impossible to notice but expensive to repair.
>>28921810The correlation is affordability, not reliability.
>>28921810Cars used to be like phones, you'd throw away your current one even if it was working perfectly just because a newer shinier model just came out and they didn't cost that much money. Nowadays prices are up and purchasing power is down so even an entry level car can cost life changing amounts of money for a lot of people, this results in many old rusting shitboxes being kept alive just because their owners just cannot afford to replace them.
>>28921810Wow, so you're telling me that the average car in 2017 was built in 2007??? No fucking way!
>>28921810>Puts modern oil in old car >WinsGood cars don't use plastic for cooling systems anon.Good cars don't use open deck blocks.Good cars don't have high stressed forced induction systemsBut you're a sucker, so you'll happily fork over cash as you're fucked over and people like me will keep making money off you. Thanks for being a great mark.
>>28921810>then why is the average age of cars increasing?A 20 year old car today is from the early 2000sThe factor made car today isn't going to last 10 years
>>28921820those 45% new people are immigrants from third world countries. white people are better off on average than they've ever been.
>>28921810>be me in the 2000s>always see at least one car broken down on the side of the road>be me in 2026>almost never see cars broken down on the side of the road
>1990s Toyota >5 year 60,000 mile power train warranty>2020s Tesla>8 year 150,000 mile battery warranty
>>28921900>Cars used to be like phones, you'd throw away your current one even if it was working perfectly just because a newer shinier model just came outYes.>and they didn't cost that much moneyNo. Cars were always expensive. The difference is that a 1975 car was more advanced than a 1965 car. And a 1985 car was more advanced than a 1975 car etc. The technology was rapidly advancing. Whereas now we largely have cars figured out and there aren't big leaps anymore, just incremental upgrades.Driving a 12 year old car, a 2014, is totally fine. May not have have the fancier stuff like adaptive cruise control or big screens but is comfortable, reliable, has A/C, heated seats, bluetooth radio etc.
