>>28921974>krauts eternally seething that their unreliable tanks got shredded by these bad boys
>>28921969Not worth the insurance costs
>>28921978two countries can make unreliable cars at the same time
>>28921969Get a later one, post 2013 fixed the chain tensioners which is the biggest problem.Other than those and the coolant pipes it's fairly normal luxobarge stuff
>>28921969>somehow lighter than modern “sports” sedans>even the LWB models are somehow under 4k lbsThe fuck? Compact exec cars barely squeeze in at under 4k lbs nowadays, let alone full size cars with a 120"+ wheelbase.Considering how Jaguar milked the previous XJ's design by keeping the general shape the same for decades, they could've easily pushed this thing through the 2020s with just a simple facelift, even if sales lagged behind zee Germans (they always did anyway, that's not a negative either). Of course, I suppose that's before they decided they wanted to '''restructure''' Jaguar into something new.
>>28922331execs are retarded. NPCs (women) literally only care about "safety" and tech gizmos / luxury feel. Just rip out the interior, redesign it, and put a new one in every 5 years. Then slap on a new body-kit and you can keep the same chassis design for decades.
>>28921969>What’s the catch?Looks like a Buick.Next dumb question?

>>28922575The XJ isn't an unrelaible car for what it is.The supercharged 5.0 is a much more trustworthy engine than the hot-V turbo monstrosities in its german competitors
>>28921969There's not much of a catch, they're pretty great. Only problems I've had are that the interface for the head unit kinda sucks, and parts can be expensive or hard to find depending on what you need. Problems I'd deal with ad infinitum just to hear that sweet V8
>>28922331That's a big car.
the catch is its pig snout and nasty toyota solara rear endalso exploding DI pump (2 of them lmao)

>>28921969I almost purchased an XJR. However they have less faults. If you are getting an non R i recommend the Supersport with a supercharged 510 V8. However bare in mind, all jags before 2014 had aluminium timing chains. Which for the XJR they were hardened steel. To replace the timing chain on these are not cheap and because aluminium has the same structual integrity as a block of chedder, your timing chain may last 20k or 100k. You might hear it rattle as a warning, it may just let go. So be warned. Also cooling hoses are an issue on these as well. But generally alright as long as its been looked after. Jaguar were weird, the XE and the XF were panned for being too heavy for their size but these range from 5.1 to 5.4m long, yet they pretty much weighed the same making it lightweight in its class. So no idea how they did that and these had for more extra's as well.
>>28923071Does a xjr chain transfer over to a regular xj V8 chain if I wanted to just get a preventative maintenance/repair out of the way?

>>28921969>Built by white menIt was built by brummies and I've been to the factory, it was shut down because they ran out of water. I think that should tell you something.>>28921974ThisStill think the XKR is sex though.
made by TATAthe design literally speaks hindu
>>28922751>Basically, the piston used on the tensioner which hits the timing chain guide is made of hard steel whereas the back of the guide is made of aluminium, the tensioner butts up against the aluminium button on the guide slowly wearing it away over time.>Water pumps on 5.0 V8 and 3.0 Supercharged XJ models are prone to failure, sometimes they can fail in less than 20,000 miles. This is because coolant gets inside the bearing housing corroding the water pump bearing.>Sadly, the water pump is not the only part of the cooling system that can fail on petrol XJ models, many of the hoses and pipes used for coolant delivery are of a plastic design, unfortunately these can crack and fail.
