I could use your help! I have a 2001 Firebird that I can get the engine to turn over from jumping it off the solenoid but it won't stay running. Switched out the starter and ignition switch and nothing. Still won't turn over. Any ideas what it could be. This is my only car and I'm missing my granddaughter's birthday. At this point I'll try anything to get it running. Batt is good ik. Thank you for any help!
>>28922057Get a multimeter and check voltage at the solenoid and then check grounds. Check your starter relay and any anti theft system you may have. Some older VATS systems will allow a start from a jump or bridge but will cut off fuel after x amount of time.
>>28922104Man, I'm afraid it is vats and I'm not sure what to do about that. I will take your advice posthaste.
Can you hear the fuel pump stay on?
>>28922218I cannot. Could that be part of the problem? I'm thinking vats but I'll consider anything at this point.

>>28922057Maybe a bad alternator or the VATs system on the ignition.
>>28922222Thank you. >>28922228I think the alternator has been checked but I'll ask if it has. Pretty sure but not positive.
>>28922221VATs will cut the fuel pump. You should hear it prime when the key is turned to on. Hearing it after the car is running is impossible. I assume its priming since you can at least start it multiple times for a few seconds.>>28922228I considered alternator but it should at least be able to run with a good battery and no headlights or accessories once started. For a little bit at least.
