This is called "projection". You've just told us that the only reason you would buy a nice car is to make people like you.

I understood what you meant, and I've seen that be a thing, but that's not what's happening here. I have little urge to impress anyone or "look rich," I am driven by cheap thrills and the art of engineering. I don't want women to respect me, I just want to put my dick in them.
I am wearing a T-shirt from middle school, I'm almost 40.
>>
>>28922947
You didn't understand. Projection isn't what you do, but how you interpret others actions. Someone buys an expensive car, you assume they only did it to impress others. That's you projecting your own insecurities onto them. To you, the only reason to buy an expensive car is to impress people. That doesn't mean you bought an expensive car to impress people, but that you would if you could, because that's the only reason you can think of to own one
>>
>>28922977
>Projection isn't what you do, but how you interpret others actions. Someone buys an expensive car, you assume they only did it to impress others. That's you projecting your own insecurities onto them.
Or, alternatively, I've lived almost 40 years and seen how people act. Imagine that.

>>
>>28922987

Suuuuure. When I think of Mercedes I think of the power and long wheelbase that would be good for drifting. I don't think it'll make people like me, in fact, I'd assume people would hate me for driving a merc. So, where's the projection? I'm just relaying what I've seen in people who do buy such cars.
Look at my room, I took this picture for this post, does this look like a guy who would want to impress people with a fancy car, or a guy who likes redlining for the rush?
Projection is a thing, but it isn't the case every time someone says they don't like something.
>>
>>28923000

> I'd assume people would hate me for driving a merc. So, where's the projection?

It's right there, dude

Why would you assume people will hate you simply for driving a nicer car than them?
>>
>>28922994
>You're saying that people ONLY buy "nice" cars to impress others which is hilariously disingenous
No, I'm not. I'm from a wealthy family.
Look at the pic in OP, he's complaining that people don't respect him just because he drives a Mercedes. If he liked his car for himself he wouldn't give a shit.
Loads of people make fun of the cars I like, you probably do. I don't go out of my way making posts with pseudonyms about how much the people that make fun of my car are wrong, and how acktchually, I'm better than them.
>>
>>28923004

>Look at the pic in OP, he's complaining that people don't respect him just because he drives a Mercedes

No, the OP pic shows people DISrespecting them BECAUSE they mentioned a German car lol
>>
>>28923002
"Oh they hate me for it," "oh they're so jelly," "Oh, bitches love me for it." C'mon, that's exactly what I'm talking about. People who say shit like that ARE obsessed with how people perceive them (see OP pic). I can consider how people perceive me, but it does not influence what cars I purchase.
>>
>>28923004
>he's complaining that people don't respect him just because he drives a Mercedes
He's not though. That's how you interpreted it because you have a preconceived notion that people only buy a Mercedes to impress people. The point OP was actually making was that if you buy a nice car, people will get mad and intentionally go out of their way to try to make you feel bad about having a nice car.
>>
>>28923007
Nah, the guy in that pic is delusional and confuses banter for hatred because he ties having an expensive car to his ego.
>"trying to look rich instead of being rich!"
Projection, anyone?
>>
>>28923011

Bro, people will go out of their way to try to make yo mad for liking anything. Anything. "picachu weeb bullshits," anyone?

I genuinely would rather my $4k RWD/manual/LSD/4-wishbones than any BMW ever made. That's my preference. You seem to think that a badge should me people respect you, and that's what I'm calling out.

>>

You liking something doesn't make it better quality

>>
>>28923032
>Your preference doesn't change how nice a car is
>You liking something doesn't make it better quality
That's exactly what I'm talking about. Liking something because it does what I like it to reliably for little money IS quality. Costing more money is not necessarily quality, look at Apple.
I used to be a mechanical engineer in quality engineering, if any of your BMWs had ABS/TSC/ESP hydraulic units from '07-'12 I may have played a part in your vehicle's production.
>>
>>28923040

>Liking something because it does what I like it to reliably for little money IS quality

No it isn't

That's just your preference and YOUR reason for it

You didn't describe QUALITY at all

I never mentioned COST either
>>
>>28923043
So, how do you define quality?
What makes a car worth it to you?
>>
>>28922745
I found that 9/10 times it is because your car specifically is either shit or unknown to the general populace. Come with a generic Mercedes or 911 and most people won't be whining about your financial choices. .5/10 is someone who is just jealous that they don't have a nice car, and the rest is someone who does know cars who finds some fault in yours.
>>
>>28923043
The people with shitboxes will never understand. Notice how cost is always a major part of his argument. He mentions a the 4k Miata in every thread.
>>
>>28923044

Why do you want me to make up a definition for something that's very clearly defined

Come now

You know?

I don't WANT to drive a gigantic automatic BMW though.
If if costed more and I wanted it more I'd get that. But I don't like that sort of thing. I'm from a very wealthy upbringing, I live on a large multi-million dollar compound with a lake and forests. Everyone had the fanciest top-trim German cars growing up and I just never got excited about them. When I was in uni my mom had a 6-spd S4 and my Impretzle was faster in every single way.
I just like having fun. I'm more willing to take risks in a car that costs less to repair or replace, and I'm here for the thrills.

True, but you missed the $4k part.
And the part where miatas are easy and cheap as fuck to work on. Look at this shit (my current car). 1/3rd of the bay is just intake tubing. It's so ridiculously easy to maintain. I'll take a power hit for lighter weight and 1/10th the price.
>>
>>28923099
Uh, it's true. I had an '06 STi with a 19psi tune and a used downpipe. It was faster than that V8 6-spd S4 in every fucking way. 0-60, top speed, braking, cornering.

not what I said. liking the car for the nature of the car itself makes you an enthusiast. liking the car for things like how it compares to the cars you see other people driving makes you a pretentious, elitist dickhead. "my car is better" reeks of insecurity
