What causes zoomies to obsess over pseudo racing japanese slop?
>>
The boomer I bought my house from had an slk kek
>>
>>28924267
WTF else is there for Gen z to like? Everything is garbage. 90% of the market is car-based crossover clones and EV's, and out of the rest the only things that have potential to be fun are "sport tuned" economy sedans like wrx or gti, but those are boring now. There is very little to be excited about in the current car market.
>>
>>28924267
Zoomers aren't having kids so they don't need an suv or minivan
>>
What do you like, OP?
>>
>>28924267
>What causes zoomies to obsess over pseudo racing japanese slop?
The entry point for a cheap sports car kinda went to the stratosphere.

Also, 4 cylinder beater coupe is cheaper to maintain than a dedicated track weapon.
>>
>>28924278
>There is very little to be excited about in the current car market.
If you love driving and nothing else, It's just the 86 and Miata left. That or expensive heavy automatic living rooms with loads of power that feel like shit to drive.
t. Late 80s millennial.

Culture has stagnated. Zoomies are just growing up in the current decade, yet all idolize the same "JDM hero" cars that the weeb-obsessed millennials did, such as the Skyline GT-R, Supra, AE86, RX7, S-Chassis and so on.
These are all now unobtanium priced at this point where 200k mile Supras are $100k cars, so something like an 86 that can still be bought for ~$30k new with a warranty, with the shitty features they love (and don't know how to retrofit) like Carplay and backup cameras seems like a sensible purchase by that logic.
>>
Why do millennials obsess over ugly ass minivans?
>>
>>28924297
240SX did 0-60 in upper-7s and had an open diff.
Nu-86 does mid 6s and has a Torsen (doesn't need clutch rebuilds) LSD standard. And it's got rear wishbones. Slightly cheaper than a 240sx after inflation, too.
People seem to ignore that it's better than a lot of old tuner cars in several ways. They gave us what we asked for.
>>
>>28924299
Did I not mention weight and money? Also that's not a new car you silly goose
>>
>>28924278
>>28924292
GM is bringing back the camaro, the same car that already drove better than the miata and GR86 for a cheaper price.

the 6th gen camaro was arguably car of the decade, and the 7th gen likely will too riding on that brilliant alpha platform.
>>
>>28924267
Millennials fucking suck.
>>
>>28924307
I'm that anon. I agree, the Camaro is the best value performance car this decade.
I really like lightweights so, for me, it's just the Miata, 86 is too heavy. But yes, the newest Camaro is a better car overall
>>
>>28924307
>GM is bringing back the camaro
That's one car, it doesn't really make much difference in how shit the current car market is. Plus it's a bit on the fat side. Last gen was like 3,800+ pounds, I suspect the new one will probably be creeping up on 4K. Yeah you can make up for that with power, but you'll feel that weight in the handling no matter how well the suspension is set up.
>>
>>28924335
>Last gen was like 3,800+ pounds
Not true at all, the 4 cylinder was like 3400 lbs.
>Yeah you can make up for that with power,
not only does the camaro not need power, it doesn't even need anything more than all season tires and it still beats the competition through sheer handling alone.

You just need to drive one on track to feel the magic.
>>
>>28924346
Well. That cute 25 y.o. chick that works the Publix deli just got a Mazda 3 and she'll be paying it off for many years. Most zooms aren't loaded.
Also I assumed it was only about new cars, I owned see it isn't.
>>
>>28924352
>Not true at all, the 4 cylinder was like 3400 lbs.
Nta but that's 1,100+ lbs heavier than my car.
>>
>>28924278
There are still cool cars. You just need a lot of money to buy them
>>
>>28924361
Can your car beat a Yaris GR on nothing but all seasons?
>>
>>28924369
>You just need a lot of money to buy them
That's kind of also the point here... cars have become outrageously expensive compared to average income. That's why the 86 is so popular, it (and the miata) are really the only fun car that's still affordable.
>>
>>28924301
They don't. The OP stats are stupid, as these things tend to be. The Kia Carnival has only been sold under that nameplate in the US since 2022 and millennials are basically the only people who've had kids in the last 5 years so naturally they're the only ones buying minivans. It's a dumb technicality that basically only exists because Kia changed the name so recently.
>>
>>28924381
Both of those cars are 15-20 years old. There's zero chance they would be anywhere near as popular with younger drivers than something much more recent.
>>
>>28924399
Not even bringing availability into the equation.
>>
>>28924381
Those cars both cost *multiple times* more to insure and maintain. Shit adds up.
You know that.
>>
>>28924404
Not sure what you're getting at... I didn't say anything about then not being good cars. What I said was they aren't popular with younger drivers today (which is the entire point of this thread) because they're old and in limited supply.
>>
>>28924415
To be fair, a C4 is cheaper to buy and maintain than a C6 Z06. I'm not particularly surprised, life is chaotic.
The LT1 (and LT4) C4s are breddy gud and you can still get LT1 parts.
They're very brutish, a miata is easier to control past the limit (aka, I feel more comfortable pushing it often without fear of death). Say skill issue all you want, I like like powersliding and living to do it again and often.
>>
>>28924424
>20 year old $5K BMW as a daily driver
LOL no. It's gonna cost a shitload to maintain and will spend more time in your garage being worked on than on the street.
>>
>>28924441
he's about to deny this despite having posted the receipts himself from getting the engine in his dad's F10 M5 rebuilt to the same cost as buying another F10 M5
>>
>>28924381
Yes, but that's a Corvette. Meaning you will now be part of the Corvette owners club, the most insufferable car people to have ever populated the planet. I would rather paint myself in blackface and drive around in a G37 than own a corvette.
>>
>>28924297
The problem is that car culture buyers are no longer buying new. Part of it it's the economy, 20-30 years ago the average 20s idiot making 30K-40K in an entry level job could afford to get himself a brand new fast couple car. Even if it was a "lame" V6 it was still fast and exciting enough. Nowadays after 2 economic disasters, inflation, wage stagnation, etc. the average 20s idiot making 30K 40K a year on a intro salary cannot afford to buy a brand new sports car. They cannot afford to buy brand new anything unless the make the ultimate compromise and buy the lamest vehicles on the road like a Kia Niro or something like that, so they buy used.

And used buyers mater not to the manufacturers, this is also the reason why the entire car market is moving to AWD Cuckovers with no good color options beyond different tones of gray, because the new car buyer nowadays is in their 40s, and people in their 40s like cuckovers. it's a catch 22 if ever there was one, manufacturers don't make new fast fun cars cause there's no demand, the people who would demand fast and fun cars are also the ones who cannot afford to buy new.
>>
>>28924267
It's cheap
>>
>>28924523
You spent $20k on an engine rebuild? Fuckin' ridiculous. You can get a (miata) BP longblock for $1.5k and have it fully-built with forged shit and fuel upgrades for $4-7k.
What failed on it to make you pursue that route? ;3

This graph isn't which car they like the most, it's which car they like more than other generations do. I assume Camaros are relatively popular across the board, where the GR86 is specifically popular with zoomers, probably because they got hit with all it's marketing during the most impressionable time of their lives.

Yes, spun a bearing is the proper term. "Blew it up" is the bantz parlance. Get with the picture man.
When you say "little Chudski blew up today" you really mean he threw an autistic rage fit.
Hope that helps. This is really silly by the way. Somehow the worst failure I've gotten driving absolute clapped out shit boxes with 200+k and redlining them non-stop was a dead thermostat leading to a busted radiator. But I guess ze Yermans operate on a different level.

No, but they both are casually referred to as blowing up the engine. Rod bearings, from what I've seen, are the most common cause of engine failure. I didn't say anything about throwing a rod through the block.

I think that anon was specifically talking about generative AI, not "AI" search results. But AI search results will give false info. It could end up sourcing from some reddit post or pseudoscience site and because it found something that agrees with you, it says you're correct, which can lead to delusional thinking. With cut-and-dry things like "explain bernoulli's equation" I'd say AI's fine, but other things you definitely need to check sources and look elsewhere.

Name one Chinese brand that was even on sale when the VF Commodore was discontinued in 2017.
