Day 3 I was at an intersection about to do a 90 degree turn to the right from a stop and my clutch wasn't bled and had air (was still sorting the bike out) and as I began to turn I stalled the bike which I realized and was like "shit, I could save it" so I put my leg down pushing it up from a 30/40 degree angle but it was at that point of no return so I was just slowly lowering the bike down as if it was in slow motion with me going "oooh no"

It was gentle, nothing besides some scuffs on the ol' clutch cover and a funny story. Never crashed or tipped or dropped since then (thanks to having a properly bled hydraulic clutch)

Hit a median almost perpendicular to it, went airborne for a second, landed sideways, slid along the asphalt next to my bike. Was on my way to work and not wearing any gear so I got skint up pretty bad. Bike needed handlebars adjusted, some paint was scraped off, and some plastic was scuffed, but otherwise bike was fine.

Unfortunately it’s basically dead, the threads on the output shaft are so fucked I can’t thread the nut on to spec anymore. Had a coworker weld the nut onto the output shaft after I got it as tight as I could (around 50ft-lbs, backwards, stack of washers, heaps of red loctite)
So the bike is basically mine until death now, just as well, it’s sitting at around 45k miles so it wouldn’t fetch me more than 2 grand if I tried to sell it. My own financial situation is also still shitty so probably no news bikes soon either.

The one you're looking at is a 750W. The W stands for watercooled. It was the first gen of 750 that had this after they introduced to keep up with the other manufacturers. Not quite as nimble as those that came before or after due to being quite pigfat but still 90s technicolour cool factor, sounds good and has sovl. I have the earlier oil cooled model. Just keep the carbs in good order is the main thing. Don't let the bike sit too long without riding it or modern fuel will gum up the carbs and you'll need to pull them apart and clean them. Check for rust in the tank. Other than that, usual bike maintenance, check chain sprokets, is the suspsion working, is it siezed up are the forks leaking, does it need sprokets, chain etc. These are pretty reliable just ride them often to keep them happy. Think of them as the bike equivalent of a 350 chevy or something. They're closer to muscle bikes than sport bikes by modern standards.

Has anybody ever used one of these on a sport bike?
The seat on my gixxer has been killing my taint. The foam is in really good condition, I think it's just the shape of the seat puts to much pressure right in that area. I don't have this issue on my other bikes.

It will always be less strict and less enforced. Think about it like that. Why doesn't Suzuki put their 8 platform engines into a swift? By all means it seems to be more compact and give power output in line with the segment(while being smaller) and considering the cheapest bike with it costs slightly less than half of what the cheapest version of swift costs it's probably not super expensive while standardisation would save money. but the bike is basically a semi automatic, you can basically put in first gear and just twist and go without touching the clutch, but the moment you pull the lever it become manual so you can still feather the clutch when you need to

Checking service manuals online the tolerances seem to be pretty similar (between 0.10 - 0.20 MM for shims). Valve clearances every 15000 miles. Pretty standard stuff. From 88 to 92 with the oil cooled bikes lots of stuff was iterative and there was lots of parts interchangability. Even 85-87 engines will usually bolt straight into an 88-92 frame. By 93 when they switched to the water cooled bikes it was pretty much a complete re-design despite keeping the cradle frame so not much will be interchangable. The oil cooled bikes have a bit more of an enthusiast following and parts support but I wouldn't be scared of a water cooled bike not much really goes wrong with them other than some wiring harness connectors melting due to heat.

And to the other anons question. As a long haul driver some times you can have like 10 hours of free time or take 34 of free time to put around on a bike.

The tw200 can look pretty cool. another thing to keep in mind is I might be driving in snow on MN cold during winter.

You aren't going 125mph in a stock 300cc. Lightweight class seems good on paper but a majority of the bikes with exception to the 4RR ninja and Aprilias are just NOT equipped with the right brakes or suspension for track days stock. It is bordering on unsafe to push super hard levels of under equiped. Tires I shouldn't even have to mention either.

My chain is loose again, I (pay for) tighten the chain 2 weeks ago, and making some cleaning noticed that is tight in some places, it goes up and down. Does this mean I have to change the chain and sprockets? In the last change, when I went to tighten the chain, the guy told me it was too long and had to cut it, but it's weird, I have only done 13000km with this chain and sprockets

Ninja 400 or 500 is also a good first track bike.

There is also the YZF-R7, GSX-8R, Ninja 650, and RS660. Lots of club racing for that class bike because they're cheap to run.

Compare them to ZX6R, YZFR6, GSXR600 or CBR600RR. Those bikes are made for motorsport, hence the name, sport bike. They have fully adjustable suspension so the suspension can be fine tuned for different riders and tracks. The ergonomics and frame are designed for high speed riding. The engine and transmission are designed to be ridden all out. The brake components are higher quality, designed for finesse in high speed braking.
They share none of the components or design decisions with Ninja 400, Ninja 650, YZFR3 etc. Those are cheap beginner bikes, made to look like a sport bike. A bike isn't a sport bike just because it doesn't have a HD logo on it. The fairings don't make a bike, a sport bike. Any bike can be ridden on a track. Not all bikes are designed to be ridden on track.

just did a valve lash check... the factory spec is .006 +/- .001 for intake and .009 +/- .001 for exhaust. what i got was the following:

Yeah, Norway. There are kinda regular traffic stops where they check emissions and noise, both by police and the road department. Sure people do drive with decatted pipes, but if you're stopped you get ordered to comply with regulations and have to show up at the road department and prove it complies after some days. If it doesn't work, I'll bite the bullet and do a full seat modification. I'll replace some of the foam with gel and add some extra foam to the side to widen the pressure point of the seat.

Terrible lifter tick, and it overheated on the way back. I usually just drive it 10 minutes to work and back so I never see these problems.
I ended up limping it back while stopping at every other exit so it'll cool off and eventually the lifter tick went away.

You figure out why it overheated? What kind of truck?. My C5 Corvette pumped out a lifter one time on a long road trip and it ticked for a couple minutes before it got oil back in it. Not exactly sure why it happened. I had been on the highway for hours and hit rush hour traffic. It lost pressure when I slowed down. If it's not actively ticking you're probably fine but be overheating is definitely a problem.

For the lifter tick, Lucas oil stabilizer works wonders on old engines. Might help keep the noise at bay.

It was a 2005 with 11k miles for 3200.
Dude said it only needed an oil change and a battery. Got there and the tank was rusted out, plastics were missing and put together with plastic bonder, and there was not even a drop of oil in the engine. The pics I was shown were real favorable.
I should've known it was too good to be true.
I'm not sure what's considered a good price on one of these now.

You bought R6 for track, maybe, but a lot of them have never seen one, they were used for people who wanted sporty looking bike for the street. For them R7 is simply a better choice. In the 90's and early 2000's everyone and their dog dropped I4 in a street bike because muh horsepower and it was a mistake, Ducati Monster and SV650 have procent it, when yamaha made CP2 and people started using the days of 4 cylinder mid sized bike for street use were limited. It wasn't muh cost or even muh regulations, it's just the fact that it was more compelling option for a street bike and street bikes identifying as sports bikes.

Dead simple. The real skill is knowing where to anchor them and how to tie a knot so the extra length doesn't flap around, wrap around your sprocket and tear your subframe off the frame mounts and suck you into the rear wheel.
