Redpill me on the 94 gixxer
I found someone locally who wants a dual sport. I’d be trading my 2004 klr, with similar miles.
Bike is in good shape, missing a mirror but that’s it. Wasn’t dropped from what i could tell but if it was he got NOS plastics for it

600 or 750?

The SRADs are badass. Given the fact you're trading a KLR for it I'd say you'd make off like a bandit even if it needs work done to it.
If you can test ride it, do so and shift thru all the gears.

What's the milage? You might need yo get the valves serviced if it's never been done amongst other shi'

>30k miles
Not bad, but not the best. I would suggest a valve inspection / various other maintenance checks like rubber hoses, vacuum lines, carb cleaning, spark plugs, wires, fuel pressure regulator, tires, sprockets, chain, etc
>750
Makes it 100% worth doing all of the work it needs. If it was a 600 I'd say pass despite it being a trade for a KLR. The fact it's the 750 SRAD makes it 100% worth building up if you actually like the bike and aren't looking at it as a means to make money off of.

>commuter bike
Check the tires, if they're square then he's telling the truth.

I'd say full send it anon if you:
-Want a sport bike that will satisfy you for as long as you want it
-Don't mind investing into it to make sure she's properly sorted so you don't kill yourself or worse, ruin the bike.
-Not a retard who can't comprehend carbbed bikes

If you meet the criteria, and got the wallet to back up the needed purchases. Then do it.
>>
>>28924444
Day 3 I was at an intersection about to do a 90 degree turn to the right from a stop and my clutch wasn't bled and had air (was still sorting the bike out) and as I began to turn I stalled the bike which I realized and was like "shit, I could save it" so I put my leg down pushing it up from a 30/40 degree angle but it was at that point of no return so I was just slowly lowering the bike down as if it was in slow motion with me going "oooh no"

It was gentle, nothing besides some scuffs on the ol' clutch cover and a funny story. Never crashed or tipped or dropped since then (thanks to having a properly bled hydraulic clutch)
>>
>>28924444
Hit a median almost perpendicular to it, went airborne for a second, landed sideways, slid along the asphalt next to my bike. Was on my way to work and not wearing any gear so I got skint up pretty bad. Bike needed handlebars adjusted, some paint was scraped off, and some plastic was scuffed, but otherwise bike was fine.

Hehe, haven’t heard from you in some time. I never stopped posting I just don’t blogpost nearly as much.
I’ve been having a lot of fun taking pictures of faster riders at Palomar
>how’s your yamm?
>Will you be trading for a dualsport?
Unfortunately it’s basically dead, the threads on the output shaft are so fucked I can’t thread the nut on to spec anymore. Had a coworker weld the nut onto the output shaft after I got it as tight as I could (around 50ft-lbs, backwards, stack of washers, heaps of red loctite)
So the bike is basically mine until death now, just as well, it’s sitting at around 45k miles so it wouldn’t fetch me more than 2 grand if I tried to sell it. My own financial situation is also still shitty so probably no news bikes soon either.
In other news I’ve finally hit 3 years on my license which means I can’t to test ride the busa today, very excited

Cool, you do know survivorship bias is a thing right?

You want both the front and rear to behave the same, not slightly different. There is 0 point to introducing a new variable to consider while you're having fun.
Having a better tire on one end while having a shittier one on the other will cause the bike to do weird shit. Like hooking traction on one wheel while the other doesn't. It's just not worth it even if you're broke or stingy.

Maybe there's a case to be made if you're a stuntfag but for people who care about actual riding: Stick to matching pairs

The one you're looking at is a 750W. The W stands for watercooled. It was the first gen of 750 that had this after they introduced to keep up with the other manufacturers. Not quite as nimble as those that came before or after due to being quite pigfat but still 90s technicolour cool factor, sounds good and has sovl. I have the earlier oil cooled model. Just keep the carbs in good order is the main thing. Don't let the bike sit too long without riding it or modern fuel will gum up the carbs and you'll need to pull them apart and clean them. Check for rust in the tank. Other than that, usual bike maintenance, check chain sprokets, is the suspsion working, is it siezed up are the forks leaking, does it need sprokets, chain etc. These are pretty reliable just ride them often to keep them happy. Think of them as the bike equivalent of a 350 chevy or something. They're closer to muscle bikes than sport bikes by modern standards.

Gubberment doesn't seem to give af about it in my country at all. It will always be less strict and less enforced. Think about it like that. Why doesn't Suzuki put their 8 platform engines into a swift? By all means it seems to be more compact and give power output in line with the segment(while being smaller) and considering the cheapest bike with it costs slightly less than half of what the cheapest version of swift costs it's probably not super expensive while standardisation would save money. However a car like that would have it really hard to pass regulations

Will they regulate them? Yes. It won't always be for the worse, MT-07 is a case of Yamaha seeing writing on the wall and deciding to make a motorcycle that's more future proof compliance wise than F6Z, but... MT-07 only loses with f6z in a drag race, outside of that it's just a bike that's better suited for the segment. Torque>HP. On the other hand a lot of fuelling issues on modern bikes(correctable with a flash tune) are also caused by regulations, so get this you have a really good bike that's being forced to run lean by Greta - not fun.

essentially yes
you still have the same clutch lever and shifter
but the bike is basically a semi automatic, you can basically put in first gear and just twist and go without touching the clutch, but the moment you pull the lever it become manual so you can still feather the clutch when you need to
also you can also just think of it as bi direction quickshifter too
but its honda only tech atm

Get R6 or CBR500 at the least.

I'm figuring more in the sense that an R3 would just be the cheaper option. Of course it's not gonna do 150+ mph down the freeway or the track but at the same time, 125mph is still pretty fast. So idk

I've never ridden a sports bike but now I'm interested from the last few posts. Something like an R3, Ninja 400/500, etc. I've heard people recommend bikes like 650's or the R7 as a starter bike. Checking service manuals online the tolerances seem to be pretty similar (between 0.10 - 0.20 MM for shims). Valve clearances every 15000 miles. Pretty standard stuff. From 88 to 92 with the oil cooled bikes lots of stuff was iterative and there was lots of parts interchangability. Even 85-87 engines will usually bolt straight into an 88-92 frame. By 93 when they switched to the water cooled bikes it was pretty much a complete re-design despite keeping the cradle frame so not much will be interchangable. The oil cooled bikes have a bit more of an enthusiast following and parts support but I wouldn't be scared of a water cooled bike not much really goes wrong with them other than some wiring harness connectors melting due to heat.

You aren't going 125mph in a stock 300cc. Lightweight class seems good on paper but a majority of the bikes with exception to the 4RR ninja and Aprilias are just NOT equipped with the right brakes or suspension for track days stock. It is bordering on unsafe to push super hard levels of under equiped. Tires I shouldn't even have to mention either.

Nobody “outgrows” anything, there are a million ways to be faster. If you ever truly “outgrew” a bike you’d have to be crashing constantly
In a displacement meritocracy nobody would graduate from bicycles.
The people saying that you’ll “outgrow” a bike are retarded but implying it’s possible to “outgrow” a bike is just as retarded and misses the reason why someone would want to upgrade their displacement

Compare them to ZX6R, YZFR6, GSXR600 or CBR600RR. Those bikes are made for motorsport, hence the name, sport bike. They have fully adjustable suspension so the suspension can be fine tuned for different riders and tracks. The ergonomics and frame are designed for high speed riding. The engine and transmission are designed to be ridden all out. The brake components are higher quality, designed for finesse in high speed braking.
They share none of the components or design decisions with Ninja 400, Ninja 650, YZFR3 etc. Those are cheap beginner bikes, made to look like a sport bike. A bike isn't a sport bike just because it doesn't have a HD logo on it. The fairings don't make a bike, a sport bike. Any bike can be ridden on a track. Not all bikes are designed to be ridden on track.

Yeah, Norway. There are kinda regular traffic stops where they check emissions and noise, both by police and the road department. Here
I made a time machine pills video:

https://litter.catbox.moe/pdtlmfwf90l5ad6a.mp4
>>
>>28926336
Noted. I will make sure it's in place good and doesn't move so it breaks in properly.

>>28926341
You figure out why it overheated? What kind of truck?. My C5 Corvette pumped out a lifter one time on a long road trip and it ticked for a couple minutes before it got oil back in it. Not exactly sure why it happened. I had been on the highway for hours and hit rush hour traffic. It lost pressure when I slowed down. If it's not actively ticking you're probably fine but be overheating is definitely a problem.

>>28926356
You just know it's a man
>>
>>28925866
Hmm, I get what you're saying. and I don't expect those to have the same R&D into the chassis, suspension, and brakes, but are they made to handle and stop well? I've never owned something like an R3, entry level ninja, or similar.
>>
>>28926365
I enjoyed this video. Thank you.
>>
>>28926375
it's a 98 1500, I know why it overheated and I thought I sorted it out but clearly not. The lifter tick was new though. I just did an oil change on it like a month ago. I work too much now to fix my shit so I'll just drop it off Monday.

Funny enough the bike I went to look at was a gixxer 750.
>>
>>28926325
That is a pretty sick bike. Was that yours? I’d love to see a side pic.
>>
>>28926383
Damn...well best of luck you to, anon. Hopefully you're working so much that it doesn't affect your wallet too much.
What year Gixxer was it?
For the lifter tick, Lucas oil stabilizer works wonders on old engines. Might help keep the noise at bay.
>>
How useful are studded tires at winter time? I'd like to commute on my bike year round if at all possible, but I would like to also not die

It was a 2005 with 11k miles for 3200.
Dude said it only needed an oil change and a battery. Got there and the tank was rusted out, plastics were missing and put together with plastic bonder, and there was not even a drop of oil in the engine. The pics I was shown were real favorable.
I should've known it was too good to be true.
I'm not sure what's considered a good price on one of these now.
This is the pic I took of it while he was dumping the varnish into the mall parking lot from the tank.

What slip on is that? It looks nice. I'm trying to figure out if I want to mess with my exhaust or not.

I will never understand why people are so confused about this trend.
You bought R6 for track, maybe, but a lot of them have never seen one, they were used for people who wanted sporty looking bike for the street. For them R7 is simply a better choice. In the 90's and early 2000's everyone and their dog dropped I4 in a street bike because muh horsepower and it was a mistake, Ducati Monster and SV650 have procent it, when yamaha made CP2 and people started using the days of 4 cylinder mid sized bike for street use were limited. It wasn't muh cost or even muh regulations, it's just the fact that it was more compelling option for a street bike and street bikes identifying as sports bikes.

>what does it look like when she takes the helmet off?
I remember it was in Bakuon manga - Onsa is even more fluffier right after she takes off her helmet
>>
Is insurance for an R7 really that bad?

>nothing retarded on my record
>>
>>28926411
The old Scandanavian flick.
>>
>>28926443
Depends where you live, and how much insurance companies rape you.
TL1000s, $350/yr full comp, $500 excess, $4k gear cover
NA MX5 $1400/yr full comp, $6k addon insurance (hardtop, wheels, stereo etc).

NZD, so x0.6 for USD.
>>
>want louder bike
>all aftermarket silencers look like doodoo compared to stock one that looks the best
Should i buy another stock silencer and gut it out followed by cat delete?
>>
>>28926456
What bike? You might be able to modify the stock slip on, eliminate the bread box with a mid-pipe, and drill out the cat (if it's in the header).
>>
>>28926458
Its gsx1300bk. The cat is between the silencers and headers, easy to saw out and replace. There doesnt seem to be resonators at all.
>>
>>28926459
>gsx1300bk
SICK
Yeah, those cans look great. I would see what the forum guys do. There might be a tutorial on there.

What are my options? I want to motocamp maybe once a year but I don't want to spend a bunch of money on panniers for my smol dual sport commuter just because I want to lug baggage once or twice a year

50 liter hiking backpack strapped to passenger seat
>>
>>28926465
surplus rucksack and ratchet straps maybe? if you can keep it off of the exhaust
>>
>>28926466
>>28926467
Hmm not a bad idea ... Although I have no experience with ratchet straps. Are they hard to get right?
>>
>>28926468
if you mess around with them for a few minutes, you'll figure it out. or check out a youtube video. there's also fancy motorcycle straps. rokstraps I think?
>>
>>28926468
Dead simple. The real skill is knowing where to anchor them and how to tie a knot so the extra length doesn't flap around, wrap around your sprocket and tear your subframe off the frame mounts and suck you into the rear wheel.

I took MSF and then lost my job, so I couldn't afford a bike for several years.

When I got money again I bought a bike, and pulling out of the dealership onto a 4 lane highway service road I lowsided and skid across 2 lanes into the ditch... picked it up and rode away (minus a mirror, my rear brake lever, and some blood).

>>28926501
>>pic related, it's the moped
>>
>>28924444
TLS. Highsided over the bars when the bitch bucked like a hot-damn coming out of a scalloped sweeper. Landed in some pretty cushy shrubs, as did the girl, ovalled the steering head as she smashed through a makeshift wooden barrier though.

Rode only dirtbikes for almost 10 years after that, bought my first car a week after the accident.

>Couple of them wave at me through the rear window at the lights
>Fat guy in a hi-vis waves back
>They all turn to each other giggling and exclaiming because interaction
>Front passenger, female, looks like she's telling them to shut the fuck up as she turns to swat ineffectually at them
>Sad.jpeg, kids die down
>Plod along behind them, practically at idle as we both turn off to the onramp
>Yes
>YES
>Chop down a couple gears
>Kids all immediately glued to the windows at the change in note
>5k roll-on power wheelie past the Chariot
>Flailing arms as I pass
Yas, YAAAAAAAS, NO REGRETS

The Chariot was super clean, immaculate even, I can only hope the bloke driving didn't think me a cunt.

Unironically why does any sport bike cost more than $5,000 MSRP? I don't care if it's an R3 or an R1. 250cc, 500cc, 1,000cc, twin cylinder, four cylinder, one headlight, two headlights, fucking whatever. It's some fucking metal tubing with a beefed up lawnmower engine wedged inside of it with some fucking plastic covering it. They make 10,000's of each model every fucking year. What in the actual fuck justifies price tags beyond $5,000?

I don't care if it's an mansion or an apartment. 250m2, 500m2, 1,000m2, two stories, four stories, one bedroom, two bedrooms, fucking whatever. It's some fucking timber framing with wool insulation wedged inside of it with some fucking plywood covering it. They make 10,000's of each model every fucking year. What in the actual fuck justifies price tags beyond $5,000?

The R7 costs 5k USD in Japan.
Ask your government why are you so cucked

shipment from there costs like 1.5k max, so it should be a 7k bike brand new

I'm 1500 into an exhuaust and velocity stacks for a bike I paid 1300 for. Hope I can set it up right lol
>>
>>28926673
Gets some sealer for the velocity stack. You will need it for closing the mating surface on the outside of the stack.
>>
>>28926688
Thanks I will look into that. My biggest worry is pulling out all the air box stuff. Capping off the right things and NOT capping what I shouldn't.

>>28925109
Okay if you want to cheap out and I mean really cheap out for msf. Some atv/snowmobile knee/shin gaiters over some ripstop carpenter jeans are like a bare minimum.
Otherwise any legit pants for riding that are denim are at least 120 bucks. But seriously it is just msf right now so just buy carpenter jeans with ripstop you won't be going over 25mph and Carpenter jeans are sub 40 bucks.
>>
>>28925570
Just buy a torque wrench and make sure everything is in spec after then
