What's the max mileage you would buy a car at?

>t. collegefag trying to buy their first car for under $10,000
>>
>>28925507
How long is a piece of string?
>>
>>28925507
Depends on the make and model but generally I would look for cars that are sub-200k
>>
>>28925517
This.

Also it depends a bit on the car too, 200k on a Toyota or Honda is very different from 200k on a French car.
>>

my best car was a volvo 850 i bought at 330 000 km. my current car a ford transit i bough at 75 000km but its trash. i drove a toyota at 800 000 km and it was mint, i mean nothing worked but at the same time everything worked.
>>
>>28925507
I bought an F350 with 228k miles and a land cruiser with 170k. It depends on the car.

Thanks
I'm probably going to go for Honda/Toyota/Mazda, too. I hear that they're the most reliable and long-lasting (Except any CVT models).

I'm hoping that it can last many years.
>>
I've bought one at 180k miles. Lasted me til 285k when someone hit me when stopped, it still ran tip-top.
I'd buy most things up to 150k, and famously reliable manuals to 250k.
>>
>>28925559
it's the correct usage you absolute moron
>>
for $10K you should be able to find a japanese beater with under 100K miles
>>
>>28926243
>for $10K
Realistically my budget is more like $7k right now, but I'll get to 10k within a few months..

CM Accord with stick.

As reliable as they are I just learnt how to drive and don't want to spend another few months learning how to twiddle with my stick

Not sure if Fords are reliable, but nearly every early 2000s car is great so that's probably an amazing deal.
>>
>>28926263
that has an automatic.
that era of ford is pretty decent though in terms of reliability. and being a jelly bean Taurus, you know no one was rodding it to death.
>>
>>28925507
Most cars have engineering targets of 300k km or about 190k miles. That’s not to say the car is done at 190k but that’s when testing stops. I’d get a bmw 128i
>>
>>28926263
>>28926260
this is the worst era for Ford ngl. that car is a ticking timebomb.

Depends on the car and the service records. I bought an E34 that had close to half a million and it was perfect (only needing some bushings done) but I also had a 1997 Mitsubishi Galant with only 60k on it and it was a pile of shit. Never buy anything that lacks records and try to find something with an autistic owner.
>>
>>28926260
>>28926263
There's a reson why that generation Taurus was gone from the roads by the time Obama was elected and it wasn't rust.
>>
>>28926351
>>28926303
Thankfully I'm only on the lookout for Hondas/Toyotas/Mazdas.
Sadly literally everyone else is too, so they're overvalued to fuck now.
>>
>>28925507
Just buy 1 owner cars from genuinely white men, bonus the cvt """problem""" becomes a non issue too
>>
>>28926358
Yes follow the herd
>>
>>28926360
>follow the herd
What would you recommend instead? I'm pretty desperate at this point.
>>
>>28926361
open the used car website and look at the most recent listings
when you see a car you think looks cool you do a quick research on google
>>
the only correct answer
>>
I just bought a 2015 cx5 with 150k for $9600 for my sister in law to drive around in and pay us back over 36 months.
That was a pretty decent find in my area for that price
>>
>>28926263
I learnt manual in an afternoon. And it made me actually want to drive plus made my car cheaper.
>>
>>28925507
Pickup 180k
Anything else 130k
>>
>>28926358
visajeets have bought up every single old Toyota and Honda in Canada at this point, if you do find a use Corolla it'll have 250,000km, rust, mismatched headlights, and they'll still want $15,000 for it.

buy something that's been modified and fixed up like a Jeep XJ. there's a good number of those for sale that most people won't buy because they have large tires and a 4" lift but otherwise they're mechanically solid. those can be had for $5-10k
