picrel 2.9 Twin Turbo Straight Six version of the Volvo Whiteblock engine
>>28925647Honda J series engines are unmatched.
>>28925647many in the moon and back club
>>28925647
>>28925647jeep 2,5tdi, vm motoriundeniably one of the worst engines ever made but also the one that has done most hunting, fishing, camping, towing etc in europe. and its actually quite peppy, i had 2 of these and 2 4L, if i had to choose i take the diesel.
>>28925647The GM 4.3. Everybody likes to suck off the 3800 but the 4.3 is much more impressive imo. I still see a lot of Astros still working hard but I haven't seen a 3800 powered anything in decades. It's the closest you can get to a V8 with a V6.
>>28925765the 4,3 was basicly a 350 cut in 3/4. the 3800 was its own thing, and the chevy v6 was its very own thing again not related to any of them. google chevy 60degree v6.
GM 54 Degree 3.2 V6, Europe only IIRC
>>28925647No one appreciates the Chrysler 3.3/3.8 twins they used in between the Mitsubishi dogs and the Pentastar V6 that I still consider the 'new engine' for some fucking reason even though they've been around for 15 years now. Sure, they're mostly found in minivans where everything else falls apart around them, especially the transmissions, but dammit if those 3.3s don't hit 300k miles easy if you have even the slightest ability to keep up with oil changes. As just "an engine that works," they're pretty good, but because>Chrysler>minivansthey're forgotten.>>28925765Hell with the 4.3.>take a V8>don't cut the end off, remove the second cylinder from the end on both sides instead so it goes 1-2-4-5-6-8I never understood the point of it when two years after its introduction they made a dedicated 60 degree V6 anyway, the one most people know from the Fiero.
The DOHC Modular. It laid the groundwork for the Coyote that we have today. Being used in Panoz, Qvale, Marcos, De Tomaso and early Koenigsegg certainly doesn't hurt it's credibility either.>>28925783Pretty sure GM used these in the Saturn L300 here in the states.
>>28925797It's good for a V6 but yeah it's a V6. All V6's are pointless when you can just use a V8 with no balance shafts. That's not the point though. GM is STILL using the 4.3. How many shitty iterations of 60 degree V6's have they shat out in that 20+ years?
Yall niggas don't know what under-appreciated engine really means
>>28925924>hurr you guys don't know what you're talking about>doesn't post one
>>28925800>underappreciated>posts the engine that for 20 years ford guys have been salivating and trawling junkyards to pull them out of Lincoln trucks to build imitation Cobra motors
>>28925947*underrated, sorry>>28925924 fucked with my head
>>28925947>ford guysinto the trash
>>28925947>bro, just LS swap itDo you understand the premise of the thread?>>28925965Ford Fan>GM Goon>Dodge Dunce
>>28925971>Do you understand the premise of the thread?yesin no world is the DOHC 4.6 underrated. it is, if anything, overrated by ford fans, and the gm guys don't think about it at all because it's even bigger than the already pigfat SOHC modular. you shouldn't include "dedicated fans of other makes" in a scenario like this because they'll always be pissants who only care about the home team and how you end up with something like>bro, the chevy 350 SBC is super underrated. all the mopar guys i know hate it!
>>28925974>yesI don't think you do. >and the gm guys don't think about it at all >you shouldn't include "dedicated fans of other makes" in a scenario like this because they'll always be pissantsThe irony. What the shit are you babbling about you retard. I was making a tongue in cheek comment about how the default normies and retards default to is >bro, just LS swap itwhen these DOHC modulars have seen over 3000hp.
>>28925647Can the tranny handle all that power? A heard that the Volvo trannies from the early 2000's couldn't pass.
>>28925783North America got it in the Catera for sure
>>28926152Based Miata enjoyer
>dohc>doesn't need timing belt done>bolted to reliable 5 and 6 speed granniesThe Lambda Gook V6 fucking fucked, they literally had to stop selling the Sonata V6 in 2010 to make the genesis make sense because they ripped the front wheels and were reliable.
Pic rel
>>28927658>consumes ur oil by the liter
>>28927952Not even, theyll maybe only ooze oil from the front valve cover, but they don't drink oil like VQs.
>>28928054you're right I forgot the Lambda is the one that's the target for a class action lawsuit for it's tendency to self-destruct
>>28926193>Can the tranny handle all that power? No. The p2 T6's all have a GM 4T65E (not even a HD version) which can't handle the power, and they pretty much all fail before 100K
>Reliable (no known manjor mechanical issues)>Powerful for its time (245 BHP stock), compared to 228 BHP for a 530i>Economical (36.5 MPG Highway)
Single cam KA's can shit all over SRs with a turbo and a good tune
Chrysler Turbo II.It might leak coolant from every single point possible, but god damn if it isn't a dog cunt that will take abuse from a dumb teenager like no other.I unironically think it's one lf the best engines ever made, if I had to build some 1000hp piece of shit instagram car, I'd much rather use this piece of shit than a chevy V8 or some toyota 2jz boat anchor.
>>28930115You believe you could get 1000hp out of that turd?
>>28930129Maybe with one on the back as well.
>>28930134Just looked at some pictures of the block - smooth sides, no ribbing, like some 1960s designCrankshaft not even fully counterweightedThat absolute turd would crack open like a coconut as soon as you tried to force some proper boost into it
>>28930148>That absolute turd would crack open like a coconut as soon as you tried to force some proper boost into itThose were quite valued by drag racers before the SRT4 came out specifically because they could take mad boost without cracking.Four figures is plausible, but would require big bucks and a lot of work, just like on any engine to be honest.
>>28925800I wonder if anyone has ever made that "guess we're making x now..." meme about Yamaha making the SHO engine.
6G72TTThing is a tank if you stay up on belt maintence intervals (every 60k) Stupid amounts of torque, almost as much horse. Parts are abundant because it was used in a lot of mitsubishis too.
>2.5 liter N/A 5 pot>found in base model Jettas/Golfs>Derivative of the legendary Audi 5 cylinder>pre 2007 versions had factory forged cranks>One of the most reliable VW gasser engines07K is a heckin' gem of an engine
>>28927656>>28927658Lambda I was good, Lambda II was alright. Basically every car made with the Lambda II 3.3L had a few issues. They don't burn through oil as often as Theta IIs do, but a good amount of times when they reach higher mileages they'll have cam issues because the bank 1 exhaust VVT actuator pin just fucking shears off or wallows out the hole it goes into on the cam. They supposedly have issues with head gaskets but I haven't seen an actual case of that. Tellurides, back when they actually had 3.8L V6s, would rarely have crazy oil consumption issues at stupid low mileages, think 50k-80k miles. They still fuck though.
>>28930172Unfortunately the Lincoln manifold wasn't as trick as the S.H.O. manifold. It was a single plenum fed by dual throttle bodies. The heads had 2 intake ports and one port for each cylinder had IMRC flaps to direct air through one valve at lower rpm to promote swirl and increase low speed torque then would open midrange to redline to provide maximum hp.
>>28930520
>>28930242>reliable and makes VAG lambo noisesGib
>>28925647>transverse i6So the weight balance and handling are complete garbage, then?
>>28930240The twin turbo V6 found in the GTO/3000GT/Stealth?
>>28930761Yes. The 6G series was also used in a lot of other cars. Granted, not factory turbod (often)
>>28930848Yeah I know, but specifically the 71TT was the twin turbo, I think.I know the uhhhhh 6G62 was it was used in FWD Chryslers, the leaky six and I think some form of the 72 was used too in the later ones.
>>28930242I wish more companies made 5cylinder engines. After hearing VW's and Volvo's 5ers with an aftermarket exhaust, its a reasonable compromise for small displacement, small packaging, but still very fun for power and noise. >>28930520Oh thats neat. I would've thought with metal 3d printers now, why wouldn't they be printing more complex intakes. Maybe its still cheaper/easier to make them out of plastic? Still crazy they could make all those twisted snakes of intake runners and would happily charge thousands today if they had to make it.
>>28930995I have a 2.5 in my Golf, it's honestly a pig on gas, but the noise and the torque (effortlessly taking 9off in 1st gear) is well worth it.
