Been browsing Marketplace for shitboxes at or under $1000 and found these. Can't decide on which to get as a fun weekend wrencher. The Galant keeps dropping in price, was $2000, and I'd be wiling to go above $1000 for it. Opinion?>inb4 neither are manual or performance modelsdon't care, i daily a manual anyway.
Frankly they're all dogshit for even 700 bucks, I'd keep looking
I don't think I would touch an auto with that mileage because transmission service would cost more than the car's worth and could be needed at any moment. A clutch is a wear component
>>28926737Might, if I'm willing to go up to like $3000. Usually wear the good finds start to pop up.>>28926746Definitely something to consider. I doubt any average driver does tranny services.
>>28926725Focus is the clear winner.>Better suspensions and chassis >Practical >Countless of second hand parts >Based brand
>>28926759Seller is a single mother of 3, based on her profile. Maintenance on the thing was probably abysmal. But $600 is $600.

If the Focus is still available by next week's payday, I'll take it as a sign from God to buy a shitbox
>>28926725>autotragicRun
>>28926810>>28926810If I do buy one of them, I'll test my wrenching skills and try tearing down an auto for the first time>rebuild an auto with no experience>ladies and gentlemen, the transmission no fucking longer works
None of them. You buy a cheap Z3. There will be enough wrong with it that you get some wrenching done. These look meh. You have two high mileage commuters and one that could be a nice weekend convertible but it's high mileage and you're going to put more money into it that it would cost for you to just get a Z3.
>>28926814Go with the cheapest then, or the one with the cheapest rebuilt tranny available.
>>28926725Considering paint/bodywork is the most expensive repair you can do. I'd get the Galant even though I agree with >>28926759 the Focus is the better overall car.
Grim. But they are near-running (supposedly) for prices I heard didn't exist anymore so I guess it's not too grim. The back window falling out of the soft top on the eclipse could be expensive.I'd probably check out the Focus, but the owner appears to be ESL and the price is suspiciously low for something that only needs a battery and coolant piping fix. I see that they slipped in "tune-up" needed and I'd worry that that phrase might be doing a lot of lifting there. Still probably the one to check out out of those.
>>28926725Why is that POS foculus even there?
>>28926725The convertible, there is no other choice.
>>28926908If he doesn't have a garage a convertible without a rear window is the last thing he should buy.

>>28926725Have you looked into the parts situation on these? Seems like the Bishi's would be a nightmare. I would look for a grandma owned Saturn S-Series. Either the 2 door couple or even the sedan. They're pretty fun to drive and won't be beat to shit like these. But they're also getting rare and some parts are getting hard to find.
>>28926956It gets easier the more you post from the same device / browser. You can go from 3 of those crazy shape ones to just one "pick which of 3 don't match" only once every two posts in just a few days of occasional posting.
>>28926957>I have a garage so not an issue if I go with the EclipseNice, do you do bodywork? Again, idk if you care about aesthetics but if that Galant really only needs a starter that thing is way cleaner than the other 2 and was probably maintained better as well judging by that.
>>28926963I had a mint 2000 SL2 manual saved but it sold for $1000 today. Was a perfect buy but I had the same thought of parts being impossible to find. As for Mitsu part availability, idk I rely on RockAuto for my '11 Lancer. Haven't really sused out the used Mitsu part market.>>28926973I've never done body work in terms of fixing dents. Aesthetics can be slowly ironed out though. "Only needs [part]" always leaves room for skepticism, but yeah the Galant is probably the most taken care of.
>>28926987But being taken care of doesn't mean worth buying. I could buy any and all of 1000 different brand new prize figgies but only Miku has decent prize figgies and after spending $20,000 on figgies I don't have the room to be buying cheap crap. So why would you be buying crap when you could be buying a good figgie?
>>28927081As someone who collects figgies, you right. The allure of wrenching on a cheap shitbox is strong though. We'll see. That $600 could go to more figgies, or save for a not shit shitbox.
>>28927181Figgies and good cars are a good combination.
