What do you think are some of the best motorcycle engines of all time? Taking into account reliability, sound, and aftermarket support.

GY6 scooter engines. They are a simple design originally from Honda, reliability is great when Lee Chang doesn't build it, aftermarket is huge, sound is what you would expect a single cylinder to sound like. Yes scooter are motorcycles.

The CB750 is an iconic motor which started the whole horsepower arms race which eventually brought us literbikes but my vote for the best motorcycle engine is the cg125. Now I never rode a cg125 but I used to have a cb125 that was great. Honda took the cb125 and asked themselves "how do we make the cb125 MORE reliable?"

I agree. but I've realized that the CB750 wasn't the fastest, cheapest, most reliable or the most advanced offering at any point in its history. but it was a runner up in all categories at once. and that's why they sold millions of them.

When the 750 first released i4s were still considered exotic race tech, even then the rpm limit of the 750 isn't that high to make cool screamer noises, it sounds cool the same way vintage i4s do but it's a basic flat plane i4 that isn't a screamer so it's just alright

Hands down, bar none.
The 999cc liquid cooled engine honda made from 2000-2006 is without a doubt one of the greatest examples of engineering. The cams? Driven by straight cut gears. The sound? Divine. Having low bass notes from the L-twin paired to a screech from the forever rotating gear driven cams.

These engines easily go 100k, 200k, 300k miles if not more (the highest milage RC from the forums was a 00' SP1 that reached 350,000 miles before it unfortunately got in an accident from a dude who ran a red light)

Aftermarket is there, but not as much as back in the day. There used to be a company that super charged them because the gear driven cams made it so easy to put one one.

Simple in construction.
No gimmick technology (like genesis 5 valves)
Proven to last.
Racing pedigree and high praise by legendary riders such as Joey Dunlop, Collin Edward's, and Nickey Hayden.
