Do you have any road trips in mind? What do you think of mine? Any must-see places or must-drive roads?
I always found the desert landscapes more interesting than the coastal ones which is why I'm not taking the Pacific Coast Highway, but that is still very beautiful.
>>28927792I want to take my Midget on the Enchanted Circle, but it runs exactly like a Midget, so that's unlikely to happen soon. Another road trip I wanted to take would be to Houston and back to pick up my car from the port, but that's mostly so I could see a Buc-ee's.
I sure have for the longest time, by bike specifically, but the "super reliable" mile eater touring/cruiser bikes I've tried were all shit so only now did I get a bike that I can trust to do a 6000km/3800 mile trip
>>28927798Are you just trying to get there and back? Anything you want to see along the way? Looks like 5 days there and 5 days back probably.
>>28927804It's the trip, not the destination, albeit the black sea beaches are really nice destinations. That's just a vague route I'll be taking, not following the GPS that much and I'll be stopping to see whatever strikes my fancy on the way.I've done that trip by car and yeah it's about 10 days there and back total, usually, but this time I have a bike that'll do 80kmh tops, so it might take me longer than 10 days
>>28927797This, basically. Real short drive, but a pretty one.
>>28927792When are you doing this, and what vehicle? I live in Bend and might be able to make some suggestions.
>>28927792Why the fuck would you take boring I-5 over kino US-101?
>>28927797>the Enchanted Circle>>28927817I knew nothing of this until now, what a tour! It's a 16 hour ride to the start from the west coast for me... If I lived there I would be riding this weekly.
>>28927792going to be doing this probably 3 times over the next few months.
>>28927792>>28927883For both of you guys, if you're doing routes that go near Bend and end up in Portland, and it's in late spring/summer, take the McKenzie Highway over to Eugene and then up I-5 to Portland instead of taking 97. It's one of the most kino roads I've ever been on and doesn't add that much time to the drive.
>>28927925thanks king. on at least one of those trips i'll probably take the route up through nevada
>>28927792you're skipping all the cool stuff around there
I prefer to take Greyhound on long trips. You see so many more interesting things.
>>28927792>san mateoyou got the best touge roads at home
>>28928059this is /o/ not /out/, anon wants to drive not look out the window at all this boring shit
>>28927883Ah man, avoid Albuquerque my dude. It fucking sucks. >>28927875It's great having it in our back yard, but I rarely actually drive it. There's plenty of nice driving roads on the West Coast anyhow.
>>28928068>>28928059lets not be too hasty. i'm an avid /out/doors /o/tist. i can love you both.
>>28928075lol tell me about it. i'm moving from abq after 40 years. love northern NM though. i'm sure you've already been but the route through questa and eagle nest is one of my faves.
>>28928078My favorite place to be is Red River, so I've absolutely done the Questa->Eagles Nest run more than a few times. My favorite part is the climb into Red River. It's fun I'm just about anything but an RV, and beautiful too.
both with ND miata top down during new yearNordkapp lowest temp was -37C and still didn't need gloves for driving and needed to drive at speed to keep engine temp up.
>>28928068>boringyou just havent experienced it firsthand
>>28927870Around July 4th weekend, camaro >>28927872See >>28927796>>28928064Im not doing it for togue, its about the destination, im visiting seattle
>>28928374I just got back from Seattle.Tried some Top Pot doughnuts and the fancy Italian place under Pikes Market, was in town for a Electric Callboy show.Hadn't been there in years, still a pretty kino city.
>>28928374You should start on I-90 east and don't cut back over until Tahoe or Eldorado national forest.
>>28927792Bruh your route is missing ALL of the good stuff. You're literally taking the most boring highway route possible. You should be zig-zagging across all those epic twisty mountain roads across that whole region.
>>28927925>McKenzie HighwayCan confirm. Did this last year on a whim in Muh Trugg™Very comfy with some Colter Wall-
>>28928077Where dis :DI wanna bisit
>>28928446>>28928486Im trying to get there in 2 days
I liked the million dollar highway when I was going to the colorado san juans to camp and drive all the mountain passes. A lot of fucking deer during the witching hour though.
>>28928374McKenzie is definitely worth it if you can, should be open by then and it's awesome both for the road and what you see. Really cool volcanic hellscape and then it turns into Skyrim forests. Definitely do Crater Lake if you can as well, it's not that far out of the way and it's worth seeing. Also if you like aviation/military shit the Evergreen Aviation Museum up near Portland is kino, they've got the Spruce Goose, an SR-71, and all kinds of other cool shit. If you're passing through Bend at meal time, check out Boneyard (the most /o/ place in town, good burgers and right off the highway) or 10 Barrel.
>>28928546It only adds 2.5 more hours and is infinitely more kino
I gotta drive to Indianapolis tomorrow (this morning). Not excited
>>28927792Planning a similar trip from Seattle to Napa in mid October. Not route plans. Not sure on car. Want my corvette but im having trouble making that work. Will probably be a rental. Which sucks but I cant justify adding 4 days and 5 thousand miles onto a week vaca.
>>28927792>>28927883I live in Bend, OR, and if you guys are going through it, check out the Cascade Lakes Highway. Adds about an hour that takes you through a 60 mileish loop around the mountains to the south. I would enter from South Century Drive and continue to Bend rather than highway 58, though. There's a million places to stop along that route. Also, if you want windy roads, check out highway 242. It'll take you down a super windy trail that has lots of volcanic rock, then entering the jungle-like valley. Although, it will put you closer to I5, and you won't get to see Mt. Hood, as your routes illustrate. It spits you out on the highway to Eugene, which is a highway I like more (albiet, longer to Portland).>>28927792Fort Rock is cool if you haven't seen it before (also see adjacent Hole in the Ground) but it'll probably be a one-and-done event. As the other anon said, stop by Crater Lake, it's worth the detour. There is fuckall in the badlands wilderness, I would skip that unless you love the desert and want to see sagebrush.>>28927883Your northern route looks awesome. The middle section of Idaho is particularly forgettable, but the Wallowas and the Gorge is pretty beautiful. If you go on your southern route, there is virtually nothing of interest between Flagstaff and Oregon. Although, once you enter Oregon, I would go west slightly west of where you have routed to take highway 205 instead. Fields, the Alvord Desert, Steens Mountain, and Frenchglen are awesome little places.
>>28929409>but it'll probably be a one-and-done eventYa, plan to arrive there during sunset and think the view will be amazing. I've visited a lot of these random "one and done" type of places, and theyve all been worth it because theres just no people. Like amboy crater, CA. > unless you love the desert and want to see sagebrushFuckin love that shit. Basically my plan is to visit it at like 6am while its still a bit misty and can see the sunrise and everything's dead quiet.
>>28929409>I live in Bend, OROh shit, there's two of us? I thought about suggesting the Cascade Lakes too, but that might be a pretty long detour for him. I'd definitely do 242 though, plus it means going through Sisters, which for the non-locals is a pretty cool little town. (That I don't have any decent pics of so have one of me and the bros at the Three Creeks Pub there.)
>>28929528Reporting in from Portland
