Who knew that this was basically Mercedes' last hooray. It's been nothing but downhill since then. Seriously, it really feels like a big final milestone looking back at this.
The gullwing started it and the gullwing ended it. It's poetic. The bird came and went.
How do I close the door if I'm short?

>>28928924That looks almost exactly the same.
>>28928683You could say the same about any and every car in Mercedes lineup from that early '10s era, from the S-Class down to the C-Class and even the cuckovers in between. It was the last era of crisp styling, integrated screens with analog clusters still, and standard wood grain instead of gloss black plastic. The last era of hand-built 5.5-6.2L V8s as standard AMG motors, too, before they downsized to the standard Euro compliance size of a 4.0L V8. The last era where you could get a manual transmission, in the US even (2015 SLK250 with a 6MT).They all got cheaper and blobbier looking after that, but sales are still strong since styling their cars like >>28928705 brought over new buyers that think that glossier trim + bigger screen + gay disco LEDs = fancier car.
>>28928697you don't. it's aerodynamic.
>>28929142>but sales are still strong since styling their cars like >>28928705 brought over new buyers that are brown.

>>28928683Say what you will, but I see both that era and the cars of it like the SLS, 458, LFA etc. the end of traditional powertrains, styling and design. ///M cars were going away from bespoke high revving NA engines, Benz did away with their big NA V8s, Audi was already building soulless turbo power plants, Ferrari took the 458 and decided it needed to be uglier and sound worse by turbocharging it and the new era of hypercars ushered in electric assist that set the stage for all of the hybrid powertrains and bloat that we see with modern cars. Full dash screens, gamer lighting, curb weights over 5k lbs. and everything having a boring soulless hybrid assisted turbo powertrain. Yes things are much faster now, but it’s all so sterilized and clinical that the plot has been lost. If you’ve driven one high end German car, you’ve driven them all. The lines have all blurred to the point that they’re nearly indistinguishable other than badging. They sound the same, perform about the same and all have had their styling ruined in some form or fashion. You had your hold outs like the Huracan and R8 but those are now done and replaced with yet another uninspiring mid engine turbo V8. Just my brainlet take. I know there are plenty of neat cars like the GT350s, Hellcats and Vettes, but this is primarily aimed at what’s happened to once great high end European manufacturers.
