my cv axle is stuckhelp an anon outhow do i get this thing out no i don't have an air hammeri tried a hub puller and just put a big indent on it
Did you... consult the shop manual for your car before trying to take an axle out?
>>28929291Did you remove the pin?
Put the nut back on so it's flush with the end of the stud and whack it with a bfh
>>28929291Wd40
>>28929325
Does it not just unbolt from the transaxle and slide out the back of the hub?
>>28929291it helps to take off the brakes and rotor.and probably lower control arm. most cars the halfshaft has no room to goyou may need to remove it from the diff first, and then bang it out.>>28929318use a rubber mallet only.
>>28929342Yep suspension and brakes off helps a lot. Unbolting the gearbox end is also useful but he isn't there yet.Sometines unbolting the engine mount and using a crane to deal with that is a thing. Hopefully OP isn't going to get there.
>>28929332Torch will absolutely destroy their wheel bearingFind an SDS drill, it's like a mini jack hammerOr take the hub off and have it pressed offThis looks like a Miata rear axleAnything else is hopium
>>28929342>rubber malletIf he puts the nut back on, he shouldn't mushroom the end of the axle. I guess a relevant question would be whether it moves at all or is actually seized in there. I assume the latter.Monitoring this thread and hoping OP gets it off.
>>28929291donkey kick the shit out of it
>>28929291If you have a scissor jack and there's someplace to wedge it against the frame you can push it off that way
>>28929367If the thread is alive by tomorrow morning i may have an outcomei sprayed it with kroilYes it's a Miata>>28929353Ordered one of these sds thingies, tomorrow i pound on it with a proper chiselI may just be weak and should have hit harder but I'm beatI've got 5 days to finish this LSD swap
>>28929353It will remove it. :)Sometimes a little bit of heat will honestly help.
I don't know why but air hammers make less fuss over these than a shop press. Get something percussive
>>28929367>>28929374Yea. I put the nut on backwards and use big hammer, if everything is ready to get smacked.
update: took the whole hub offa friend is gonna press it out this morning
>>28929346its a rwd car, look at that puny brake rotor>>28929374>miataok, yeah remove the upper control arm bolt and let the suspension hang down.(also remove the end links and take out the lower strut bolt)you can use the entire knuckle to pivot the half shafts out of the diff and then bang it out.>>28929962cool. while you're at it consider these. they are amazinghttps://www.bro-fab.com/shop/p/cactus-mytxyI personally dropped the entire rear subframe when I did my 1.8 swap, it was much easier, and I also took the time to freshenup all the components. idk why you didnt post in the miata generalpic of me doing the front
Update: a friend pressed it out like a godI tried the SDS hammer and it didn't help so yeah, it made a loud bang and looks to have been seized all the day down. Penetrating fluid dindu nuffin
>>28930065i swapped diffs on my miata and one side went super easy. The other I was smacking with a sledgehammer, a rubber mallet, all sorts of shit and it would just not come out.until it did. That shit sucked.
>>28930065clean up the new ones and apply a thin layer of axle grease or anti seize. dont forget to clean the hub splines as well.
>>28929341Not on a fwd cuckbox like that. The axle goes straight from the hub into the tranny. The only way to remove the axle is to remove it from the hub first.
>>28930589Renault, the only manufacturer I can think of where lifting the car off the engine and transmission is the easy way to change the clutch.
>>28929291NA/NB Miata detected. Give up now and take the whole knuckle and axle to a shop with a presst. Miata owner who had to use my shop press to get my axles out and it's not even a rust country car
>>28930622It is out now :)Diff goes in tomorrow or friday
>>28930648Yay!
>>28930609That's the official way to do it on a Twingo and the hours for that cost more than the car's worth at this point. However, if you lower the subframe just slightly and maneuver the gearbox in a very specific way, there's juuuuuuuust enough clearance to get it out without beating up the radiator too badly.Funnily enough my right CV was also stuck in the hub during this whole operation and it required a hub puller and a serious beating to get out.
