Has the focus on track times ruined sports cars?
>>
>>28930398
no, lack of a manually operated transmission ruined sport cars

Yes and no.

On the topic about the 911 is that it became a GT car. Boxster/Cayman are the good old sports car. And you do have the entry level, pretty boring; the gts, sweet spot; and the rs, wicked hot.
>>
>>28930403
Part of the reason why they always get automatic is to improve stats
>>
You wouldn't like real sports cars. They were never meant to be the GT style monsters that the 911 has become. They were basically sporterized normie cars. They basically just put lighter, smaller bodies on basic ass sedan underpinnings. The MG Midget/Austin Healey Sprite were built on the A35 and the Morris Minor 1000 underpinnings. They were stripped out and miserable to live with.

just like with every other sport the tryhard faggots ruined it for everyone else. Nothing is designed for the laymans experience anymore
>>
>>28930398
How would that ruin sports cars?
Also, no one gives a fuck about production car lap times except keyboard racers.
>>
>>28930425
You can look at it from a different perspective that manufacturers lose the soul of the car by refining it to the point that it basically drives itself.
>>
>>28930427
In that case, yes. But, that was probably inevitable.
>>
>>28930403
Only American car autists care. The rest of the world has moved on, manual is outdated tech at this point. Europeans, Asians, don't really give a shit. But the manual is more ingrained in the hearts of American carcels because it was special. Only other enthusiasts even bothered learning it. To the rest of the world, it's just how cars worked. So no special attachment.

Track times incentivize long and wide for stability and moar power over lightness. The increase in size isn't a hindrance on a track which is five car widths wide, but go to a street lane where you go from having plenty of room to apex within your lane to being completely constrained by the road markings so your driving is now just a kindergartener's "keep within the lines" and you've lost any ability to play with the steering. Concentration on acceleration above 120 means you break the tires loose in a straight line at anything below that, which means you can never use all your go pedal. Streets have hard speed limits set by the laws of physics -- it doesn't matter if you have 1500HP, you can't do 150 on a bumpy 25MPH road because that's well beyond the point you're launching the car airborne. Being limited by the nannies every time you touch the go pedal and only being able to get on it for one second before you have to let off just isn't "driving" even if you reach the end of the street faster than someone in a less powerful car.
>>
>>28930446
The size increase is 80% safety shit and 20% to fit more tire. Modern "tech" and power doesn't require anymore space, less actually. The cars are fuck hueg because of safety shit.
>>
>>28930434
most cars in europe are automatic, let alone asia.
>>
>>28930398
nurburgring specifically ruined sports cars

all else equal the smaller lighter car will always be faster and more fun

>rent a 911 in San Francisco
>do second gear redlines all week long
>no one gives a shit because their nigger problem is so bad that the cops don't bother giving speeding tickets
>excellent driving machine, it stayed perfectly planted on every road i took it on
>Hwy 1 was fucking excellent
>finally understand what the 911 hype was all about
>come back home to GA
>look for 911s on autotrader
>remember that our gay cops make a killing ticketing people at the beginning and end of every month
>remember German Maintenance Costs™
>remember that my miata has never gotten me a speeding ticket i couldn't take care of with a 200 buck lawyer
Yes. I am poor. No. I don't care about it.

I had a chance to buy an SC in 2008 for 4 grand. I ended up turning it down because I didn't know what to do with it and came from a family of muscle car guys and knew I'd never hear the end of it. Those fucking things are like 60 now.
>>28930436
That's plainly not the same car.
>>

European and Asian roads have plenty of twists and turns to keep drivers amused.
America is mostly straight flat highways so they needed something to keep themselves occupied.
>>
>>28930817
europe and japan fit inside the us. we have plenty of windy mountain and canyon roads every except the plains. rent free btw.
>>
>>28930812
cars now rely so much on grip no one actually knows what handling is anymore
>>
Most ppl would be scared to drive a car that small
>>
>>28930403
Fippy bippy
>>28930822
Lmao
>>
>>28930434
As a Euro I care because manual is simply what I'm used to. Also I like downshifting when engine braking cause I'm a bit obsessed with engine braking.
>>
>>28930434
Literally just wrong
>>
Europeans can't even afford cars. I lived there for a couple months, it was crazy how fucking lazy and poor the average person was.
>>
>>28930868

The average net salary in Germany is roughly €2,700 to €3,000 per month for a full-time employee.

Irrelevant. It only matters to poor people that need to cope. My net worth is almost 10x the top country on there btw
>>
My net worth is approximately 500x the average albanian
>>
>>28930908
>>28930902
I kind of doubt you earn much when you're too stupid to understand the concept of averages.
>>
>>28930410
This meme has only ever been true in drag racing, manual is faster around tracks.
>>
>>28930873
US is dragged down by niggers and spics
>>
Not really, the actual problem is catering to women, basketball americans and snackbars who are incredibly easy to trick into buying overpriced underperforming unreliable dogshit just because it's trendy and/or flashy rather than put an extra .001% into r&d and manufacturing to make an truly good vehicle that people with above 80 iq would actually buy.
>>
>>28930983
so the profit motive, then
>>28930403
and this, though it's also related to profit. The "No one buys manuals" (because we don't make any) therefore "no one wants manuals so we won't make any" cycle
>>
>>28930931
>My net worth is approximately 500x the average albanian

Having $500 is not much to brag about bud

if you could raise prices and sell the same volume of cars, you'd do it too. also:

>>
>>28930398
YES.
Narcissitic douchebags like Misha ruined cars.
You can't get a fucking simple GTI
You can't get a fucking simple Fiat 131
You can't get a fucking simple Civic Si

>>
>>28930434

what did he mean by this?
