Someone explain to me without being a faggot how driving manual is fun in the long run.
I enjoy it on short drives but most of the time it’s merely a nuisance.
That fact that you MUST shift manually at all times is kinda grim.
>>
>>28930625
It makes fun driving more fun (back roads, country highways, and mountains), and is barely noticeable in day to day driving after you've done it for a few months. Anybody whining about manuals for traffic and commuting either doesn't know how to drive one, or has a learning disability. It's just muscle memory
>>
Shifting is something natural, you dont think about it, just happens.
You scrawny.
>>
>>28930625
The fact you are even thinking about it, means you need to drive stick more.
Shifting should be completely done by your subconscious.
>>
>>28930632
>>28930636
maybe it’s because I am very tall with huge clown feet. it turns every shift into a shore.
there’s just no enough room for my legs and feet
>>
>>28930625
Having a direct mechanical connection and control of when you shift and thus the result of your pedal input is predictable and not slushy is quite vital for hooning.

If you're driving something like a Subaru crossover... a manual is pointless.
>>
>>28930625
On long drives (the kind you get on a highway or interstate for), you're mostly ever gonna be in top gear anyway. It's almost the same as driving automatic, except when the traffic comes up.

>Anybody whining about manuals for traffic and commuting either doesn't know how to drive one, or has a learning disability
Changing gears is fun on the open road (ie. race track) but in slow-moving heavy traffic it's a tedious and unnecessary task. It's also an unsafe distraction.
But none of this matters because by the end of the decade every vehicle on the road will be electric with a single gear.
>>
>>28930643
a dct or zf8hp will do just fine
>>
>>28930641
Get a bigger car
>>
It's not fun. In the olden times the manual was faster than an auto slushbox. In modern times, it's at best a necessity for impoverished people in third world countries. Amerimutts have no identity so they have to latch onto something like driving a manual car to give them meaning and purpoise.
>>
>>28930645
...also, braking with your right foot will be a thing of the past because with two-pedal vehicles everybody will be left-foot braking. Like go karts.

>>28930647
Like what? I don’t want to pilot a barge
>>
>>28930641
Even more stupid than first post.
Move your seat or get a bigger car, you slender man.
>>
>>28930653
what do you drive now
you probably want an american or european car

>>28930653
are you brave enough to pilot a motorcycle? because nobody is too big for a bike.
>>
>>28930660
A ford focus mk2 manual. its got pretty good leg room in person but i need more
>>
>>28930666
guess you'll just have to try different cars
>>
>>28930661
It depends on the bike. Like Harley Sportsters are tiny. People call them girls' bikes, but they're really sized for children.
>>
>>28930625
It's mostly about feeling like a cool driverman. Same reason people wear "driving gloves" and buy replicas of that jacket Ryan Gosling wore. Even then you only get a chance to really lean into it when you're on a track or going through some backroads.
In your day to day city driving it's just a chore.
>>
>>28930625
Would it be more or less fun if the car drove itself?
>>
>>28930686
>Harley Sportsters
That bike is built in Thailand for the Asian market, but you're right. Bikes do come in different sizes so Anon should sit on a few bikes before buying one. But he should definitely get a bike instead of a car because cars are for girls.
>>
>>28930698
it'd be more fun because while the car is driving itself i can play my favourite racing sim on the big screen in the dashboard.
>>
>>28930689
I thought that guy drove an automatic in the movie.
>>
>>28930645
>It's also an unsafe distraction.
not once did i ever find it distracting. it really does become second nature.
>>
>>28930661
>pilot
Third world detected
>>
>>28930710
You're not conscious of it but you're listening to the engine revs so you know when to change gears which, like scratching yourself, is a distraction.
>>
>>28930625
I've never driven manual but I think it's cool when manualfags let the pedal out and to a burnout
>>
>>28930625
you ask, I give.

Its not about fun, not at all. Driving a manual is about using the car as an extension of your body, with all the attention that it requires. You are entirely focused on DRIVING, not touchscreens, not swapping between shit, not being on the phone. A part of your brain thoroughly occupied with "operate this machine".

If you enjoy that sort of thing, some people might romanticize it as "Purity of function/ form" then its cool. Its like flying, you either get it or you don't, and thats no insult to anyone. We are all gonna die someday anon, so maybe you find whats good for you and enjoy the experience of life.

So, /o/ is always going to be about that man/ machine interface and experience. Sorta similar to the bond between a horse and rider. the further away you get from that experience, the less it matters, but on an ethusiast board don't be surprised if you are called out for not being enthusiastic about what everyone else here is for.

-Driving

Is this what is best in life? I do not know. Stick shift or Stomp on gas and car go brr, its all cool. The drama and ecstasy of a machine pushed to its limits, or just operating perfectly with it's owner. cool.

Things that turn a car into an appliance, that is sorta lame.
>>
>>28930725
>its not about fun
But it is fun. Sorry you dont enjoy it
>>
>>28930721
This medieval nigga can't separate the conscious from subconscious
>>
>>28930721
i don't think i even listened to the revs. i just shifted when it felt right
>>
>>28930625
one thing i hate is stopping on an incline, i think i burned out my clutch trying to get rolling again & i was so scared of rolling backward into the car behind me
>>
>>28930756
We’ve all been there.

It isn't "fun" nor is it a "nuisance". Its driving a car.

Whats fun about having to use any of the pedals? Its part of driving the car.
>>
>>28930772
it's 2026 now gramps. manual gearboxes are outdated technology.

>this was the largest auto i could afford!
>>
>>28930774
Thats the beauty of private transport. You can get whatever car suits you best. You have a HUGE selection of pink EVs while i can get on with my solid 87.
>>
>>28930777
but your 87 runs on prehistoric gasoline which will be illegal soon
>>
>>28930778
>the government will make driving to work illegal
Uhuh what other radical ideas has your communist discord server come up with?
>>
>>28930789
driving won't be illegal but you can either pay $1,000 for a gallon of gasoline or lease an electric car.
>>
>>28930791
People were speculating shit like that since the 80s. Saying we would be out of oil by 2000.

It will happen eventually but not for at least another 200 years. Chill.
>>
>>28930625
>explain to me without being a faggot how having sex is fun in the long run.
I enjoy sex but most of the time sex is merely a nuisance.
That fact that you MUST put your weiner in a woman to have sex is kinda grim.

Sex isn't always the most convenient. Jerking off is. But I prefer sex.
>>
>>28930825
Maybe you are gay.
>>
>>28930721
Any distraction it provides is outweighed by how more more attention to the road it makes you pay. In an auto you just zone out.
>>
>>28930625
Manual is just a thing you do. You either don't remember it or it is fun.
>>
Imagin being able to afford a new vehicle and voluntarily choose the the gayest option.
Why would someone whit a little self respect buy an automatic? Everyone can see that you car is automatic or just listening it.
>>
>>28931252
>slow shitbox
ah yes. the only use case for a manual tranny. gotta make the miserable experience a little more exciting right?
>>
>>28930875
>In an auto you just zone out.
No, I don't. I devote more of my brain power to watching the road and monitoring my surroundings when I'm not focused on listening to engine revs and pressing an extra pedal while fumbling around with a stick.

>i pay more attention to the TV when i'm ironing my shirt
No, you don't.
>>
>>28930625
When I drive an automatic, I shift manually as much as possible anyway. Even if it's some POS with just D 2 1
So, I love it
>>
>>28930625
It's not, it's just poorfags coping that they can't afford a car with a nice automatic transmission. Automatics are stronger and shift faster and better than a driver can, and it's been that way for over 20 years now.
>>28930646
/o/ can't afford those though
>>
>>28931419
Wow what are you even doing on a car board?
>>
>>28931425
Making poorfag euros seethe
>>
>>28931258
Uh yes? How the fuck else am I going to make my Kia Forte FE with 147 horsepower fun?

It's not miserable it's comfortable and economical. Spending next to nothing and being able to have a little fun...is that just unimaginable to you?
>>
the only reason ti get a manual car is price because theyre much cheaper, often several thousand €
>>
>>28931428
Do you really think there is a consequential difference in price between an auto and manual model? Who's the poorfag now
>>
>>28931442
NTA but there is

>>28931252
sorry to hear you couldn't afford upgrading to the automatic Version
>>
>>28931446
I'm in America and we're not poor and retarded here. Sorry bud
>>
>>28931441
>>28931442
Up front, costs about the same. Over the lifetime of the vehicle, cheaper to own a manual. And more engaging to drive. Deters theft.
>>
>>28931448
That's a great last point. Basketball americans can't into manual
>>
>>28931449
They're too busy calculating the gravitational constant to 5,000 decimal places and negotiating on our behalf with Yakub to cast off the yoke of the Demiurge
>>
>>28931452
based and yakubpilled
>>
>>28931446
>sorry to hear you couldn't afford upgrading to the automatic Version
if anything, manuals are the premium option now
>>
>>28930641
I'm 6'2" size 13 shoes and drive a gt86 manual through jew york. Shifting just becomes muscle memory 2nd nature.
>>
>>28931417
me too. It’s great and I don’t miss the third pedal
>>
>>28931521
im 6‘8“ with size 16 shoes
:(
>>
>>28930625
You're new to manual.
Give it a couple years and it'll be second nature and you won't notice it any more than pressing the gas or brake.
>>
>>28931682
>a couple years
took me two months before i realised i wasn't even thinking about it (in traffic)
>>
>>28931419
Yea, automatics are stronger, thats why they have higher and more expensive mainteneance. Also they can overheat and make you look like an idiot trying to stop a car.
>>
>>28930625
aight, no faggotry, but I gotta be straight
The fact that you mention how it's a nuissance indicates how you're not used to it, so it feels mechanical to you
as somebody else alreadyy mentioned, if you like me have driven manual all your life, you don't think about it at all.
The same way you don't think about moving one leg after another when walking, or how you don't breathe manually.
If you then decide you wanna try some new technique, you can suddenly think about it, and the total control is the absolute best.
It is also safer granted you know what you're doing (no shit, it's basically an extension of your body) on snow, gravel and weird surfaces, because you know exactly what you're sending to the wheels and how.

tl;dr: bro it's just how the car is meant to be, no romanticizing
>>
>>28930625
Feels more involved and adds another layer of skill expression to the act of driving, though id never want to own a manual if i had to commute into a city for work
>>
>>28930625
>>28931993
its called muscle memory.
takes about 2 years to fully form.
everytime i get into an auto my left foot goes for the clutch and sometimes i clip the extra wide brake pedal.
my hand always goes for the shift lever and grasps nothing cause modern cars dont even have a physical shifter anymore, just fucking buttons.
i fucking hate autos so much
>>
>>28930625
Unless its crawling traffic manual is effortless.
