Stranded wrenchlet here.2000 Toyota Camry 5sfe 4clyCar was overheating so I pulled over.Made the mistake of taking the radiator cap off while hot, got a geyser.I'm fine, and once the car had cooled off, I drove it a little further, but had to pull over again, much sooner.Let it cool, then tried putting extra coolant in radiator and running engine with cap off to bleed, but it just got hot again pretty fast.Currently waiting for engine to fully cool off again.Don't know what to do, and I need to get the car home.
>>28931861sure it's overheating and not the temp sender being fucked?
>>28931862Yes.
Head gasket is cooked.
>>28931861buy a couple gallon jugs of water and keep doing the pull-over-when-hot-and-refill regimentat least that's what i think ai would say
>>28931881i did that on an engine i was gonna scrap anyway
If it's over heating while at 30+ mph it's a major clog, thermostat stuck closed, or head gasket.
OP here.Got home almost an hour ago (jannies can delete this thread if the outdated title is too much of a problem now). So, the original reason for overheating was that I had to drain part of the coolant line while working on the car this past week, which created a bubble.Had zero idea what the "overflow cap" was, and just thought the bubbles would backflow out into the reservoir.Obviously while pulled over, I learned a *little* better, and tried that emergency bleed, which I wasn't sure was successful.Once the car had finally cooled off, I poured the rest of the coolant from header pic bottle into the radiator, shut the cap, and tried to see how far I'd get.Surprisingly, the car got home (~5min drive at 1AM), going ~40mph, and the temp never went over half. So...bleed sucessful, maybe?
>>28931923odd but glad that it worked out. you'd think that as the engine warmed up and the water pump was spinning, any air pockets would eventually force themselves into the reservoir...
>>28931861bumping for visibility
>>28931861Stop falling for the reliability meme already. For me to have to subject myself to that 'car' and tractor engine combo, it would have to be paying me.t; get a better car
