If 1.7 then you can consider it but not for 2000€ if it's the one in the pic
Also i'm pretty sure you can swap a 2.0 16v renault engine in it pretty easily

Is the 1.4 a Cléon-Fonte block? They made some fun versions of that.
The 1.7 should be a Renault F-series block, so yeah, a 2.0 16V should be a relatively simple conversion.

Crazy how these were 200 bucks tops like a decade ago.

Probably a Cléon-Fonte then, same family of engines as in the Alpine A110 and R5 GT Turbo.
The CVT is a funny novelty because it's a separate CVT per wheel so it can act as a limited slip diff, and the top speed in reverse is the same as forwards (they even had a dedicated reverse racing league), but yeah you're still sending all your horsepowers through a pair of belts.
