Everyone online is praising Prius for how cool it has become and yet I rarely see any on the road
Why is that?
>>
>>28936172
Too expensive, and there's plenty of other hybrids available. A big part of the original Prius's success was also for signaling that you're eco-concious, but insufferable pricks buy Teslas instead nowadays
>>
The prius has always been ugly as fuck, your OP picture is no different. Everything is turning into an edgy soap-bar with squinty LED's and it's a travesty.
>>
>>28936172
Old gen prius are still on the road for fifty, so the owners don't want to upgrade. And there's tons of direct competitors, several of which are Toyota/Lexus. And it still sells better than the previous generation.
>>
why would you buy a prius hybird over a corolla hybrid
>>
>>28936172
>I rarely see any on the road
It's hard to get in and out of because the windshield is off a laborghinni
>>
>>28936182
the corolla is ancient and terrible and the prius uses a newer 2 liter hybrid system that is much faster
prius also has a much nicer, newer interior
the problem with the prius is it is small and they fucked up by making it "stylish" which hampers rear headroom and cargo space
>>
>>28936186
they make the corolla with the 2,0L
>>
>>28936186
>newer 2 liter hybrid system that is much faster
Isn't the Corolla hybrid sold with both the 1.8 and 2.0 powertrains in some countries? I think the 2023 facelift upgraded the hybrid system to the current gen5 one, too.
The Prius does still have a bit more power if it's the PHEV version. They don't sell that in many countries since it's so horribly overpriced that it couldn't even compete with EVs.
>>
Because the hybrid Civic and CR-V makes more sense.

The new Prius is less of a eco virtue signaling car and more of a sporty hybrid,198hp gas on front and 47hp electric on rear make it reasonably quick.
Gas mileage is marginal for a prius I am only getting 42mpg
at 33k for the XLT its good for what it is, if it was totaled tomorrow I would buy the same one again but I think of it as a hybrid Celica not a Prius.
>>
>>28936192
No spare tire. The real answer is Camry and Tesla are way better value or in the case of tesla, virtue signaling
>>
If they bring the plug-in Prius to Australia in the next couple of years for low-$50k I'll probably buy one.
>>
>>28936199
And bullshit tire size of 195x45 R19 that is never in stock & ordering takes days.
>>
>>28936172
>Everyone online is praising Prius

The truth is nobody cares about this car. Automotive "journalists" just got their newest press update from Toyota, so they're all saying the same shit so they don't lose access to future press cars.
They do this shit with every car. When Honda released the new Prelude every fucking review mentioned how it was a "momentum car" - words absolutely nobody every fucking uttered before then.

Anyway, the Prius has become irrelevant. There are plenty of hybrids on the market, and many of them are CUVs - so idiots will usually pick something like a Corolla Cross hybrid or another shitbox over the Prius.

It's a gay jeet Toyota.
>>
>>28936172
They're trying so hard to make this chintzy shitbox look like a car that its not. This kind of cheap wanton tranny fag hag shit really cheapens and shits on the work of real sports car designers. Toyota only wants to copy without ever actually being. Sad

the corolla uses the old prius drivetrain and that means its absolutely bulletproof, the new prius drivetrain hasn't been out long enough to prove the same level of reliability and it sacrifices some fuel efficiency for speed, it's also $35k. That's Ioniq 6 territory and thats a much better car than the priass
>>
>>28936172
>Why is that?
economy bad
new car espensiv
>>
>>28936641
That really means is you're paying next gen prices for old gen tech while toyota pockets the difference. If that makes you feel good, you might be an idjit
>>
>>28936670
do you know what board you're on? i think the majority of people here would pay new prices to have 20 year old cars made new again
>>
>>28936641
its been used in europe a few years now (2 liter hybrid powertrain) without issue

the larger issue is how small and compromised the prius is
they made it "look cool" vs being practical and doomed it in the process

>>28936190
not with a 2L hybrid, just the standalone 2L engine

>>28936191
In europe at least theres multiple hybrid options but in the US the Corolla only gets a 1.8 setup that's been pretty savaged in reviews, whereas Prius now gets a 2.0 hybrid that's more powerful and has been praised
>>
>>28936641
Ioniq 6 is pure EV which is inferior
>>
>>28936683
the only reason to get a prius is to save money, if it costs as much as EVs then why wouldn't get the option with ~100mpge and more torque than the other option with ~45mpg
>>
>>28936673
It's true but not about a shitbox
>>
>>28936172
No parking at the Bathhouse?
>>

I see multiple a day, nightshade is peak.
>>
>>28936675
>in the US the Corolla only gets a 1.8 setup that's been pretty savaged in reviews
Yeah, that thing was pretty slow, like slower than some Euro city cars.
At least in parts of Yurop, the 1.8 version got the newer hybrid system in the 2023 facelift, and the new HV electrics gave it a big enough boost that the 2.0 doesn't add much, at least for the smaller hatchback. Would definitely get the 2.0 engine for the wagon though.
>>
>>28936196
>only getting 42mpg
Prius arent designed for faster than 60mph (the majority of japan roadway speed limits) and mpg ratings are done at 55mph. So I''m sure you noticed how the mpg drops if you're doing 70-80 regularly.
Oh also the american turd world driving habit of impatience and fast acceleration doesn't help.
>>
>>28936675
Nope they have a 2.0l hybrid
https://www.toyota.de/neuwagen/corolla-touring-sports/konfigurator.corolla-ts.040.80e95566-81d4-4665-b4ae-f9b95c2382ef
>>
>>28936172
Because its dumb to buy a prius when you can buy a Tesla for the same price. And Tesla monthly cost is $100-400 cheaper due to no gas
>>
>>28937221
>Nope they have a 2.0l hybrid
not in the us (in the corolla)
>>
>>28936186
>the corolla is ancient and terrible and the prius uses a newer 2 liter hybrid system that is much faster
Given that there's a serious automotive malaise that will span from 2020-2035, ancient prior-gen is better than defective new-gen.
