>be me
>stupidly buy a car made after 2010
>it’s full of plastic hoses, plastic “quick connects”, plastic SCREWS, etc
I can replace the hoses with silicone, but is there a good solution for these fucking quick disconnects? I can’t just change the form factor because some attach right to the firewall and shit.

Could commission a machine shop to make you metal elbows and whatnot.

Won't be the cheapest endeavor but in the long run if you plan to keep your ride, it'll be worth

No reason the quick connects themselves can't be made of metal. Just up to either an aftermarket company like Dorman to make one or you to get one custom made.

like wiggins clamps or something?
try these guys https://products.swagelok.com/en

>buy le heckin based old car no plastic no spyware nanny electronics

>30+ sheared/rounded bolts ATP
Everyone laugh at me. I fell for the meme.

>every time you go to fix something a new bolt breaks or half of them are missing because the PO was a nigger
So frustrating. Tired of constantly fixing small shit.

Best thing to do is buy a car with less critical parts made out of plastic?

>Oh no, I have to spend 50-100 bucks for a bunch of fasteners because I was too stupid to inspect the thing I'm looking to buy
Congratulations on finding out you have a double digit IQ anon

Poor baby, do you want a binky and a bus pass lil guy?

Dude.
You think the hoses are all thats plastic and cheap as fuck?
Its the entire car bro.
>plastic radiator
>plastic intake manifold
>plastic oil pan
The hoses are the least of your worries.

no, they aren’t screw on types or anything. They’re quick connect in that you basically just push them on and they click/lock into place. So not as simple I guess for a random machine shop to manufacture, since you need the housing as well as a locking mechanism.

Not him but plastic intake manifolds (at least the ones that don't have coolant going through them, which is most) last just fine. In my 10 years of shop experience I've only had to replace one (again, that was a design without coolant piped through it) and it was because some retard before me had overtorqued the bolts that hold it down and cracked it causing a vacuum leak. Not even its own fault.

I have a metal oil pan at least. transmission pan is plastic though, lmao (I can get a metal one at least).
Yeah, plastic radiator end caps (all aluminum aftermarket is available).
Plastic intake manifolds? how do those not fall apart?

I also have an old car (I’ve basically always owned oldshitboxes and got tired of problems so I bought something newer, lol) I recommend buying one with low miles, one owner, and just sucking up the high asking price. It saves money in the long run.

has anyone else here cracked a metal intake by overtorquing it? Dumb mechanics overtorquing stuff seems like a common usecase for something in a car…

whoopty doo, fix it and get on with your life

I smashed my spark plugs into the cylinders of my bmw, and then ran it. Clearly it was designed badly

Don't use silicone on a street car/DD. There's no point if you can get actual rubber. Just replace all of your original stuff with new OE and it'll be good for another 20 years. Silicone hoses cause coolant loss, you'll think you have a leak somewhere but you don't, it's just the water and coolant migrating through the hose. Seriously, look it up.

I put exclusively silicone hoses on my daily 10ish years ago because it was cheaper than new OEM and puzzled over slow coolant consumption for years before accidentally learning from a reputable supplier that silicone is more permeable than rubber and I was just losing coolant through the hoses themselves.
