How safe of a driver are you? Are you SMITH® Safe?
>>28937499I'm not sure what that first point means. Are they advising taking wide turns? Otherwise yeah I do all those things because I have a small car.
>>28937513>I'm not sure what that first point means. It means don't drive 6 feet in front of you, you should be aiming further down the road. You'll have greater time to react and be significantly more likely to avoid an incident.
>>28937513Most of these are basic racing too.>1 look as far ahead as you can for better reaction time.>2 aware of your opponents moves through the armor of your mobile suit>3 actually this one's stupid AF look ahead>4 don't stick your nose in too late at apex or be middle three wide.>5 being a presence in the mirrors at the right time can send your opponent wide in a turn. Likewise for vanishing at the right time.
1 - PAY ATTENTION2 - DON'T BE AN IDIOTThis is all that's needed.
>>289375223 means seeing the other drivers around you and anticipating their actions, seeing things like signals or tells of intended actions. Also, things like signs, lights, pedestrians, and most importantly a regular mirror checking cycle.
>>28937541To me that's already covered by 2. Darting your eyes around means time not looking ahead. Mirrors should be part of your peripheral vision.
>>28937499Same rules apply when I do wheel to wheel racing.Look ahead is #1 rule.
>>28937522>3 actually this one's stupid AF look aheadI think it means don't just fix your eyes on a specific point, like tunnel vision
It's missing one important advice - follow the flow of traffic. Not only it's easier to keep track of your surroundings when it's relatively static but when someone messes up, there's plenty of time to react.
>>28937522>1 look as far ahead as you can for better reaction time.i only just noticed how many people only look a few metres ahead of their car this morning when roadworks diverted traffic onto a different lane and the people behind me all swerved to move into the correct lane instead of just driving in a straight line into the new lane.
>>28937499company cdl driver here, smith system is constantly preached here.
>>28937795leave yourself an out and get the big picture cover that
>>28937993I drive CDL and the only thing we get told is to keep the speeding down to 7 over or less
>>28937550I like >>28937522 reference to 'opponents'. Quite applicable to rush hour traffic.
