It's styling was getting very long in the tooth. I love it's "traditional" design and proportions, but it consistently sold less and more importantly had far less cabin space and legroom than the comparable A8/7 Series/LS/S Class that it competed against. It held on to some buyers that wanted exclusivity at the country club that would've been full of those other cars, but niche appeal and exclusivity doesn't make a car the top seller in it's class.
I always did like the newer one - it lost the old-school appeal, fixed the interior space issue, but still isn't a bad looking car at all. I'm sure it was still lagging behind the competition in sales, but I'm sure Jaguar knew that. It was only actually killed since it was supposed to be replaced with an "EV" XJ, which was obviously scrapped as demand for full size luxury EVs has now cooled off.
>tl;dr It's styling was already well out of fashion at that point, it'd be like if the W220/W221 S-Class was styled to look like a modernized W116 or W126 from the '70s-80s (based tbqh) instead of their actual modern designs

looks pretty good if you are absolutely retarded yea
>>
>>28939904
If we're just talking about looks this is merely a pale bloated imitation of a series III jag. That was the last actually good looking one, everything after that got progressively more mid looking while they tried to cling to the glory days. Not saying the new ones are an improvement in the looks department but Jag hasn't really had that Jag sovl for a long time.
>>
>>28940011
I've read and heard that Egan era Jags were actually pretty good too, how true is that? Definitely gives more reason to think well of a series 3 than others if you want an authentic Jag experience.

I'm surprised it's that new, it looks like one of those mid 90s designs. Even competition looked newer and they'd just ceased production of pic related by 2003.

lmao it's widely regarded as a good looking car. Whereas OP's car has basically faded out of living memory it's so mid
>>
>>28940240
Well that's the thing it's just an iteration of a 90s design which is an iteration of an 80s design which is an iteration of a 70s design which is an iteration of a 60s design. They just got progressively more bloated over time.

Sales went way down after they ditched their traditional styling and values.

The X-Type, S-Type and the XJ in the 90s/00s sold more than the replacement XE, XF, and XJ.

The XE sold less than half the number of X-Types

Jaguar S-Type Production 1999 to 2007 - 291386 produced

Jaguar XF Production 2008 to 2016 - 202678 produced

Jaguar X-Type Production 2001 to 2009 - 355227 models

Jaguar XE Production 2015 - 163017 produced

Jaguar XJ 2003 to 2009 - 83556 produced

Jaguar XJ 2010 to 2019 - Not available

I'm always impressed at how damn low and flat these things are compared to any other sedan.

Side by side it actually looks tall compared to the X308

That's kind of the point, it was designed for Boomers who were 60+ at the time, hence why it was produced all the way up till 2009.

Kinda similar to the W210, made all the way up till 2002, but still looks like a facelifted W124 from the 80s

Based, just like a 2009 Bentley Arnage, basically a facelift of a facelift of a facelift of a car from the 70s, which a OHV V8 from the 50s
