Since I'm being absolutely raped bareback by the gas pump my hand me down 08 highlander won't cut it as my daily anymore since even with its sort of fun to beat on on occasion even with it being heavy 4wd suv with a lsd it's mpg is terrible. Any fun to drive preferably slightly economical beaters replace it with able to take 87 octane gas since It's hard enough on my wallet to fill up 20 gallons of it. And a drivetrain fit for snow is also a preference because I live in New York (not the city) where the winters are pretty shitty.

>be normie
>have nothing to complain about
>see gas is 30% more expensive than it was in 1999
>ah yes, ol reliable
>>
>>28939933
not like that impreza's mpg is any better than highlander's
there's a reason most cars don't have full time awd, it's all drivetrain losses outside of winter
your best choice for an economical beater would be a light fwd hatch from the 90s-early 00s and a set of good winter tires

Miata
>>
>>28939971
soft top SUCKS in winter
even if you get a hardtop, you got no insulation on that fiberglass shell, and it's rounded so clearing snow off it is annoying compared to your average car with a flat-ish roof
but not a terrible choice otherwise
>>
>>28939971
If you drive a Miata the way you're supposed to you will not get good mpg
t. don't
>>
Chevy Cobalt, no joke
>>
>>28939933
Picrel has shithouse fuel economy. 90s civic or integra with b series if you want something fun. If regular traffic is acceptable get a yaris or fit from 2000s.
>>
Jetta/Golf.
CR-V looks to be able to get some good gas mileage but I don't know how "fun" that is.

Only if its diesel 2bh
>>
>>28939933
gc imprezas rust if you look at them funny

please dont drive one in the winter it will break your heart

miatas arent much better

>>28939999
good answer, cobalt xfe gets close to 40mpg, ecotec is unkillable, and because its a 00s gm product its not worth shit. only problem is rust. but on the flipside you wont feel bad never washing a cobalt/ion/g5 in the winter
>>
>>28939933
Pretty much NO real AWD cars get good MPG.
& Even if gas goes up 50%, your monthly cost increase isn't much.
If $150 a month is enough to hurt you, you need to reconsider your finances.
>>
>spend more money on either bi-weekly payments or a couple thousand for any decent used shitbox
>Oh but I want my cake and eat it too so I want to be quick and economical
>But not so fast that it requires the expensive gas
>All this to save 20 bucks a week
Bus pass.

Was honestly leaning towards the 2.5rs blobeye and older but just wasn't sure about the fuel efficiency. A 90s-00s Honda doesn't sound all that bad but I don't want something absolutely soulless

If you are a poor fag bitching about $100 extra a month in gas, you can't afford any car.
And that RS will get the same shit mileage as a SUV.
>>
You don't get a subie if you care about fuel economy
>>
Every car can handle heavy winter snow if it's on dedicated winter tires and you can just run them year round, it doesn't matter.
There's probably some ride quality and traction you're sacrificing in the summer months but again, negligible especially in a shitbox/beater
>>
>>28940263
winter tires are softer compound than summer ones, they wear out fast in warm weather, and are liable to overheating from spirited driving

Old civic, with a winch on the front for winter.

subaru should have never put four doors on this car, completely fucking ruined it

sell your expensive car to buy a cheap car that uses less gas
>>

Unironically get a 1994 lancer 1.6
>>
1st gen honda fit. AWD destroys mpg and is more expensive to maintain. I used to live in the hudson area, and never had an issue with snow because it was so light. it was also stick which helped with applying torque when needed.
>>
>>28939933
>Toyota highlander
>30 mpg
>Too much gas
Just buy a bus pass
>>
>>28940515
only non retarded post itt
>>
>>28940116
honda fit or a 00s shitbox like a sentra, lancer, mazda3 you dont care about

any impreza older than 2002 is a rotbox and the wagons moreso because they rust out at the strut towers
>>
>>28940608
More like 15
>>
>>28940640
Would the sentra ser be a good choice?
>>
>>28940734
actually yeah, just shop for a b16 (2007+) i'm personally looking for one too as a beater since the civic sis from the same era are easily $7-10k or clapped (no paint, 200k+ miles, rust) while the b16s are $3-6k. and its still a 200hp/3100lb car with short gearing, helical lsd, and a decent suspension.

older ones have precat issues where a lot of them ate the cats or simply wore out the piston rings (qr25de is fine in a automatic altima/rogue but terrible in a manual where its getting shifted higher rpms than the auto)
>>
>>28940739
Another car I've been considering is the tsx or rsx anyone know how fun they are to drive and how does it compare to the ser. Still kinda bummed there's nothing good with awd/4wd it's great on snow
>>
>>28940733
Checked and holy shit might as well drive a fucking sequoia
>>
>>28940870
I mean it is a 18 year old 4wd fat ass suv that I spent most my time outside the house inside.
>>
>>28940483
Cool story bro. Anon posted a picture of a GC8 and they are SHIT on gas
>>
>>28939933
No matter the questing the answer is a new edge

Meant to say question
>>
How about the gen2 mazdaspeed3 how good are those on gas?
>>

Galant VR4 if you can find one
