Whenever I tell how much I paid for my BMW Z3 people always act shocked at how little it was and assumed I spent 3x the amount. Why do people instantly assume you are rich if you own a convertible?
Because it's a completely unnecessary thing, a car doesn't need to be roofless to function, and buying unnecessary things is often linked to having disposable income.
>>28940646Convertible models are typically $5,000-$7,000 more expensive than their coupe/sedan equivalents.
>>28940646Niggas only be keeping up with M values.
>>28940654Nah he just saw a BMW + Convertible and in his head he thought it meant it was expensive. He was also surprised when I told him the year model of my Z3 and he said he thought it was much newer. This was a normie I talked to at a bar.
Hello fatty.
>>28940646i got a bit of that as well. my neighbor saw me on our lane and she thought my 2011 135i vert was a nice car. she was quite surprised when i told her it was a 14 year old shitbox.similarly my current car (2010 mustang gt) gets a few compliments and eyefuckings, and again, it's old enough to have it's own drivers license.I think part of it is the design of cars like that, they're fairly timeless and look good, even years and years after being produced. compared to something like a sebring, which no one is going to confuse with a 'nice' car, or assume you have money.
>>28940646The Z3 is an especially nice convertible which was never turned into a meme so the prices are reasonable. Show up in a $12,000 NA Miata and people will assume you paid $2k for it because it's so clapped-out. Meanwhile a $7k Z3 looks like a $50,000 car.
>>28940646The Z3 in particular is kinda timeless IMO, if you're not really a car person I could see thinking it was a lot newer than it actually is. I should get one in the next few years while you can still get decent ones for reasonable money. I had a dream once about owning a widebody one and driving it in the canyons and I've wanted to build that literal dream car ever since.
>>28941286Z3 is pretty dated but I could understand if it was the 1st gen Z4
>>28940646Only people born before 1965 give a shit about convertibles or think they're nice cars. Everyone born after knows its a fucking grift to sell you a half finished car without a roof and added bullshit expenses with some stupid non-feature.
>>28940707I saw one in The Hague it was so comfy
>>28940646The person you spoke to was retarded Convertibles are so mfing comfy
>>28940646No one thinks you’re rich if you drive a Chrysler or Toyota solara convertible. The bmw badge has a connotation, in the USA, that you’re stupid (more money than brains). To a non wrenchie the repair and maintenance costs can be around 6k a year. You only need to experience that once to Never again.
>>28941300hey man my brother had a convertible golf 3was kino
>>28941421Was it a 3 or 3.5?
A few years ago bought a minty R129 with 60k miles for $15k. People regularly guess that it’s a >$30k classic car.
>>28941293IMO it holds up better than a lot of stuff from the era. It's got some sharp creases and relatively small, "squinty" headlights, which make it look a LOT more modern than a typical '90s car, and the curvy roadster look has generally just stuck around a lot better than other car styles, like if you cover up the front facia it's really not that different from an ND Miata that you can buy right now or whatever. I actually think the Z4 has held up worse, it's really in your face with the early '00s styling cues, while the Z3 sticks more to the enduring classics.
Because they're toy cars. They don't have much space as they are generally coupes and they need a garage to be stored properly. Most convertibles are also somewhat "sporty"
