Why don't they make brake rotors from the same material as brake pads? It would be super quiet having pad material against pad material and you wouldn't need to bed them in.
>>
heat soak, manufacturing process, and expense. pad material is way more expensive than regular metal and current rotor material generally transfers heat more efficiently. also rotors are typically cast then milled flat, while pad material doesn't cast well or quickly

Okay thanks maybe the steel rotor isnt so bad, it is cheap.
>>
>>28943304
as long as it's doing the job up to your standards, cheap is good
>>
>>28943300
the rotor acts a radiator that dissapates heat from the pads otherwise it would melt

I always run semi metallic brake pads which are ~70% metal so it's pretty close. They are definitely not known for their quietness which is why pretty much everything comes with much quieter ceramic pads.

if both pads and rotors were the same material wouldn't they wear at the same rate? seems like a hassle having to always change your rotors with the pads

why don't they just make brake rotors out of vinyl so i can listen to music every time i apply the brakes

CD brakes sound better

You don't need to be a cuck slave to big brake. I've always gone at least 2 pads per rotor since forever and I've never had any braking issues. Yeah it's not ideal bedding in new pads onto old friction material but as long as the rotor isn't excessively worn or cracked it's fine.

>2 pads per rotor
kek. i get at least six pads per rotor on my maxiscooter and i ALWAYS wear my pads down to metal and only change them when i can hear the grinding sound of metal on metal.

It really depends on the brake pad material and how hard it is against the rotor, your regular parts store ceramic or akebono shit can actually go an absurd amount of miles because the compound is so soft and just kinda wears away, meanwhile if you've got a very hard high performance brake pad, you might find the rotor wearing away faster than the fucking pad like what happens on the stock brake pads on dodge shit packs, it's common for guys to switch to ceramic on those cars because they do disintegrate their rotors since the brembo brake pads are stronger than the fucking rotor and you'll never get to pad slap a bunch of times like the ceramic bros can.

Absurd amount of miles on rotors***
