First time car buyer, basically know fuck all about cars aside from the very basics. Saw a listing for a 2018 Impreza Limited for 10.5k with ~70k miles; is it good?

Did some research and can’t find a concrete answer if Subarus are actually reliable or not; the AWD looks nice for the weather in my area though, the VIN also checks out but I saw that the 17-20ish models have had recalls. Just need a more informed opinion on if it’s a good first buy or not. Thanks in advance.

Subaru are only decent if the owner was good on maintenance.
Those flat 4s don't tolerate bad maintenance.

you WILL get fleeced because you don't know what to look for, so buy something cheap and learn from it

The two fundamentals: car reliability over time and previous maintenance history. Since I'm a eurofag I know fuck all about Subarus so I'll let others reply on that point. Just know like other anon mentioned that if the previous owner was a moron, even the most reliable cars will break down. Try to know as much as you can about its history. If it was checked in a Subaru shop regularly you should be okay.

Also don't be a moron yourself. Take care of the car. Just a regular oil and filter change adds years of lifespan to your car, and you have to do more than that if you want it to really last.

I hope you have some spare cash for any expense (or repair) aswell. I don't know how much you want to do yourself in that regard. If you're interested, get your car's repair manual. If you'd rather pay, make sure parts are affordable.

Last obvious thing, if you don't know shit about cars and see weird smoke or a weird noise, don't blow 10k on it

Yeah absolutely buy a used subaru

This. My first two cars were learning experiences and both of them were $2k and each lasted years

Get a Toyota, Honda, Lexus. Avoid CVT unless new hybrid.
Get good snow tires and cheap wheels on tire rack.

Learn from the experience without hurting yourself.

Avoid Audi, old BMW, Alfa Romeo, mercedes, jeep, and Maserati (If you can get a cheap grecale thats a baller car if you get a factory warranty extension which you can do)

Dont buy extended warranties unless its through the manufacturer.

Get gap insurance if you dont put like 4 grand down.

Dont be afraid to lease a civic.

The coolest car a poor person can get new is the gr86/brz, Hyundai Elantra N (dont listen to the poor people on here), or a miata. ALWAYS get the manual transmission. ALWAYS get a colorful interior, fuck grey interiors.

Quote the insurance before you commit. Remember you will need gull coverage if you finance. DO NOT JUST GET THE STATE MINIMUM COVERAGE. Poor girl deatotyed my car in Wisconsin where the legal minimum is 10 grand and ahe ended up oweing the insurance company 15 grand out of pocket at age 17.

Get a used Corolla, dude. Unless you need AWD in your area and want a Subaru
