Reverse parking so I don't have to think about reversing back out while watching for dumb cunts speeding through the carpark.

For my own driveway, I always back in. My inner suburban street is narrow and busy, with plenty of street parkers. Sometimes I have to wait a minute or two until the road clears enough to back in. When I'm out and about, I'll choose whatever method suits me.

Forward. It takes almost no time to back out when you have a small car with good visibility.

this is the age filter - those born too early to retain neuroplasticity vs those who have adapted to a backup camera
in today's world of large SUVs with dark tinted windows, using a camera mounted on the very edge of your vehicle is objectively safer and easier when pulling out. whether that's a front or rear facing camera doesn't matter, only that yukons and expeditions aren't getting any smaller.

pickups always get a reverse parking pass, since they frequently would hang out into the street if just pulling in

Assume you HAVE to park in a mostly full parking lot for whatever reason:
>park forward
Maximum visibility when reversing with my government mandated fisheye reverse camera.
>park backward
Can't see a single thing to my left or right until I'm at least half the length of the hood pulled out of my parking spot because there's two suburbans parked either side of my sedan.

How the fuck do they even do that? You're making a full u-turn in reverse and will come out facing traffic.

it's kinda like doing a 3 point turn with a slight amount of austin powers depending on the spatial awareness/skill level of the driver so there's a good chance of that occurring.

I worked in a German car parts factory (Bosch) and they would ticket you out of your pay if you reversed-in.
>>
>>28945153
That's retarded. Also gay. What was there argument for why it's worthy of billing you?

Some of the cities here in California have private companies handle parking enforcement, but they pull all sorts of dumb shit and just write tickets for infractions that don't exist because it generates revenue. I backed into a space near down town and they wrote me a $200 ticket for "incorrect parking position / unsafe parking". The actual city police told me that wasn't a real ticket or a real civil infraction and one of them called them and had it cancelled. Never paid it. If you don't get the city or police to tell them to fuck off, they'll tack on fees and then send it to collections. Real bullshit.

NTA but car places can be real fucking weird. I worked at Ford and they didn't allow any non-Ford cars to be seen anywhere nearby and we'd have to hide our cars behind one of the old storage buildings. A new guy parked his new Mercedes E Class in the main parking area and his manager had an absolute meltdown about it.

>What was there argument for why it's worthy of billing you?
I didn't care enough to ask. When you're 18, you're just happy to be there.
IMO backing in wastes time and makes it more likely you'll clip another car pulling out forward as you're dragging the rear axle. But, I don't care.
Presumably it's because backing in takes longer, generally, than backing out and they are obsessed with efficiency.
They have a thing called 5S, it's like the company's internal police. You have to use a specific part number of tape to mark off everything on your desk. If your keyboard isn't in the keyboard box, if your stapler is out of the stapler box, you get a real talking to. Fuckin' insane.
>>
>>28945167
surprised that the krauts adopted toyota's 5S. I recall the practice being
>keep your most used tools in an easy to reach spot but also arranged neatly
but where i'm at it's extremely bastardised to the point that it's just become
>hide all the shit you use every day inside cupboards and store rooms when the japs come
and they rarely ever come past our area. So fucking stupid.
>>
>>28945171
oh and in the case of my managers, when they're bored they'll grill us over the 5S thing. Even if all the shit you use every day is arranged neatly and in a conveniently accessible spot, they still tell you to pack it away (i.e. shove in drawer). But they can't do shit when nobody gives a shit lol.
>>
>>28945171

>Oh yes, when I eventually met the head of the department he had that one Toyota book on his fucking desk. We had "Kanban," Just-in-Time and all that.

I have very little respect for that type of autistic nitpicking nonsense that Toyota shoves onto their staff since a lot of their newer models aren't even that reliable anymore even with all that BS. Ironically the most reliable cars I've owned have been a BMW and a Nissan.

>>
>>28945205
i wouldn't mind if it actually improved my efficiency. but it doesn't, because i have to figuratively hide all my shit under the carpet then i waste time putting it back where i usually keep it, now i don't even bother. it's office space/initech 2026, the only motivation left is to not incur the wrath of management, nothing more.
even in japan they don't do that. on their desks everything is neatly organised and within reach. they just want it to look neat, albeit to an autistic degree with the tape and all that. but at least they don't tell you to chuck it all in a drawer because the directors are coming.

I always back up because I daily a work van and that is safer (I have no cameras).

It takes less time than going forward because reversing from a spot take more time in any vehicle due to lack of visibility.
>>
>>28945214
>i wouldn't mind if it actually improved my efficiency. but it doesn't

I've worked in companies that micromanaged and companies that simply had a good carrot and stick approach and the latter seemed to work the best, especially if combined with high standards. Micromanaging just makes people figure out ways to work around it. Unfortunately many Japanese companies are ran like the former. Worked for one that wasn't and it was pretty fucking great. It's disappointing to know Bosch has started following that BS. They're quality has gone down noticeably in the last few years too. We're legit getting better quality drive and suspension components from no name Mexican suppliers now.
>>
>>28944801
If this is the "great filter" in your life then i suggest getting a fucking grip. Cars are meant to transport you. They are not your life. If something with a car is this meaningful to you then you need help.

>>
>>28944801
The patrician way is to alternate between forward and reverse and so that the right sides of the cars are more closely together than the left ones - more space for everyone.
>>
>>28945425
Anywhere with too many retarded safety people and "safety focused" leadership is like this. One accident in the parking lot and they think this is some kind of corrective action. There is no preventing retardation that shit does not help.

On the other hand, facing the street makes it all look a bit like a used car lot. Pic related, random image. Kind of feel like going up to one of the cars, kicking the tire, slapping the roof and saying “how much for this bad boy?”

For what it’s worth, I live in an area of Texas where most people seem to reverse park, whether white, brown, black, it’s annoying as fuck, esp. when I’m walking in a store parking lot and some jerk starts maneuvering his car to reverse into a parking space.
