Someone I know claims it’s perfectly fine if the oil reaches the max line on the dipstick when the engine is hot. Another person says that while this isn’t necessarily bad, it’s still better to keep the level around the 50% mark. I think both are generally fine, with the possible exception of modern diesels that experience significant fuel dilution, which can gradually raise the oil level over time and potentially lead to foaming, increased crankcase pressure, and oil being pushed through the PCV valve, eventually causing DPF issues. Whats your stance on oil level?
>>
It's better to have oil slightly low than slightly high.
I aim for 50% but I'll tolerate it at the low or high marks.

I keep that bitch just under the full line

pour it in the dipstick tube until it comes out the top

>having a dip stick
what is this? 2004?

my car tells me when I need to add a quart and I add

it really depends on the engine. a lot of them you can dump up to an extra litre of oil without any issues like the crank whipping it up etc. it's the cheapest insurance against oil starvation if you're planning on tracking your car or doing extremely hard cornering.
>>
Every single car on the road around you is half a quart or more low and 1000 miles overdue for a 5000 mile interval oil change, if you're changing it regularly and keeping it in the range on the dipstick you will be OK

I keep it at max when it's cold.
t. THP owner, that shitbox drinks more oil than my 2 stroke dirt bike

I find a quarter quart lower than max is a nice safe zone, because it takes a bit for the oil to migrate all the way to the pan when filling in most of my vehicles.

I change mine at every 3000 because that's what I grew up with and it's not expensive.

I only drive cars where the Full line isn't exactly at the crankshaft counterweights, you know, properly designed engines.

THP is a shitty european engine made by a collaboration between frogs and krauts.
So shitty that if you ask chatgpt for a list of worst engines of this century you'll find it twice (Prince and THP - they're the same engine).
you can find it in many cars made by PSA and BMW between 2007 (?) until 2016 when they finally killed that piece of garbage.

>picrelated, the model of my car.
I love the design but jesus christ I've spent so much money on maintenance: everyone I know tells me I'm a dumbfuck for keeping it.
not even a year ago I had to replace the timing chain for the second time and it only has 110'000 km lmao.

Know what's worse? I'm a total fag for thiss type of cars; if I were to buy a new one today I would buy the new Lancia Ypsilon, but then again it has another dogshit french engine (Puretech). It's like I'm doomed to either drive a car I don't like or a car that has a shit engine

Make sure it's at the full mark.
I've ran cars 3/4 full and the oil lab testes showed more wear.
Even Running slightly higher than the full mark does no damage.
You'd have to have 3-4 quarts above the full amount to even start having issues.

your car burns oil and you think that’s a flex?
>>
i keep it full because i corner hard and don't want to starve the engine

My LSW Track car burns 1quart every 60min on track.
That engine is tired
Very tired.

OP here, that sounds very interesting. I could imagine that a larger oil volume might better absorb the effects of fuel dilution, since the dilution percentage is relative to the total oil volume. Likewise, the higher total TBN reserve could potentially go a bit further in buffering acid formation.
That said, when you mention that lab tests show increased wear, how exactly is that controlled? What metrics are they using to quantify engine damage or wear?
