if my engine burns oil can i just keep topping it off instead of changing it? or do i have to change the oil?
>>28945172yes silly :) if you filled a half a coke bottle with water it wouldnt be water
you can do whatever you want brother.me, I'd keep it topped up and do the regular intervals.
>>28945172>you can do whatever you want brother.
>>28945172at least change the filter
eventually the leak will get bigger and it'll end with catastrophic engine failure
>>28945187with a car, you can go anywhere you want
>>28945172Change oil and filter every 3k miles, regardless
>>28945172i would still change it at the regular intervals, but you do you
oil burns off, oil deposits do not.this is how sludge forms.you should absolutely still change your oil, and filter.get a magnetic drain plug, and every other oil change, top off with a quart of ATF a day before changing the oil. that will help you clean out the sludge.
>>28945179This.If you had a jug of piss and once a week you poured out half and then topped it off a cup of piss and the rest water- how many times will you have to do that until you can drink from the jug?
OP has to be joking, right? There can't really be people like that. I need to believe it's not real for my sanity.>>289455600, you simply drink the piss jug.
>>28945172>gauze filter>dusty conditions>engine burns oil
since this is a D series, it's likely the valve seals. Eventually you're gonna spend more on oil than just fixing it. I've done valve seals in a vtec D series in 2.5 hours before. non vtec is even easier.
>>28945172Had EG Civic that was burning so much oil I had to buy it in bulk but I still did oil changes.>>28945234Nah, D series can run like that forever. I only had to clean sparkplugs here and there, it's like driving 2 stroke.
A lot of the time oil burning is caused by the oil not being changed enough and causing the piston rings to get stuck and burn oil. If anything you should be doing 3 3000 mile oil changes with Valvoline Restore & Protect oil to try and clean the engine and stop the oil burning.
