Why is this illegal in many states, while it’s legal to drive while being deaf?
>>
Deaf people often compensate for their lack of hearing for an increased sense of visual alertness
>>
I mean, you can drive if you wear glasses, but why would you drive without your glasses? You're just impairing yourself, which affects not just you but the safety of those around you.
>>
Why is drunk driving more illegal than distracted driving when it's been proven staring at your phone while driving is more dangerous than driving drunk?

i dont look at my phone while driving because i dont have a lock screen so I just open it and press the skip track button without looking down at it.

Most accidents are done by sober drivers. Statistically you're more likely to get into a wreck with a sober person.

Damn bro. We need to ban driving sober. Like if you get pulled over for driving too straight and doing the speed limit, then you blow a 0% BAC, they should throw you in jail and take your license away

Sensory compensation, loss of hearing often results in improved peripheral visual attention, motion detection and temporal resolution. They may not hear a horn but they'll be able to notice erratic driving and react faster as a result.

Driving with headphones has the opposite effect, not only does it negate audio cues, it's also more likely to distracts the driver drawing their attention from the road.

You could, hypothetically, drive with headphones as means of sensory deprivation (using white noise/noise cancellation) in order to improve your visual skills but the reality is most people don't have the neuroplasticity to support doing so as a lifestyle. And if you found yourself ticketed and before a judge odds are you'd lose unless you could provide evidence that it was part of an ongoing rigorous study.
