>subaru sway bar links end in a hex socket
>supposed to be able to thread the nut out by holding the bolt with an allen key
>rounded out, zero grip anywhere
what do?
I think I destroyed the link as far as it can be destroyed easily
dremel or angle grinder doesnt seem promising
>>
Just clamp that nub with some vice grips and use the bolt???

Can you fit a vise grip on the hex side?
>>
>>28950057
>>28950060
not tight enough or not enough room, theres no grip anywhere
>>
You gonna have to cut that shit out with a sawzall, don't buy cheap blades, 14 TPI is what you're looking for, have fun OP.
>>
>>28950054
pipe wrench

This and a tie rod removal tool (rent one for free from autozone) will fix your situation in less than half an hour.

Use whale heads instead of that round jaw garbage.

Take it to a shop at this point if you need internet advice from other non wrenchlettes
>>

problem with the hex bolts and the rust belt is no one ever inspects or cleans them out.
if the hex socket is not fully seated, it will strip.

anyway, as its already been said. vise grips on the shinny ball end or anywhere you can get them, and impact on the nut.
if you dont have the room, remove the entire sway bar, or loosen its mounts to have more play.
>>28950066
tighten the visegrip nut to a point where you can barely close the handle around the endlink. use both hands if you can. you need to let the teeth dig into the metal.

if that dont work, angle grinder. you can slide it along the sway bar, it may take some off but thats okay.

good morning sirs
the daylight is here

>>28950605
put the vice grips on the other end numbnuts
where is that nut going to screw off into if you are covering and destroying the threads?

these bigger ones dont work either, there is just no grip
can i file the ball? how do i make sure i file it straight

>>28950534
it's called the SALT BELT. there is some overlap between the rust belt and the salt belt but the rust belt is where industrial production used to be and the salt belt is where they use salt on the roads
>>
>>28950054
use a bastard file or a rock-wheel on an angle grinder to make flats on the part below the ball
>>
>>28950626
Get your sister to clamp those vice grips tighter. Looks like you fucked those threads so you still might have to cut that nut off if you can get a gap.
>>
>>28950054
Clean off all all grease before putting the vice grips on. Or just just use a file or angle grinder to flatten two opposing sides on the ball socket end and then use a open-ended wrench or vise grips to hold it while undoing the nut. A bit of a pain but doable. Also impact guns are your friend.
>>
>>28950631
i mean yeah i tried to file where the threads were because i wasnt thinking about >>28950614
but all i need is a gap then i can cut the bolt
>>
>>28950626
tighten the tension adjuster FIRST, then put on the vice grips and squeeze with all your might.
>>
>>28950626
goddamn it anon, you wrecked those threads.
that nut isnt coming off, its breaking off at this point

Do you have an impact?
do you have an angle grinder, NOT a dremel

no it's fine it's done
the whole wheel can come back together now with all new parts
the only thing i dont have is a new dust shield/backing plate
nobody just carries a dust shield

all i WANTED to do in the first place was control arms, but the pinch bolt on the control arm bushing -> knuckle connection snapped it was so rusty (which wasnt even be being retarded, it's a common subaru issue) so i had to replace the whole knuckle and now sway links etc
>>
>>28950663
Congrats on muscling through, anon!
>>
>>28950663
holy rust batman.
get some rust encapsulator on that shit
>>
man, fuck trying to remove sway bar links when they've been marinating in a water-salt-mixture for a few years. unless the previous mechanic was smart enough to put some decent anti-seize on the threads (almost nobody does so it seems) then it's always necessary to use an angle grinder or sawzall to get it out of there

what is this thing
>>
>>28950782
wheel or drive shaft spacer
if there is a spring on the inside, its a seal.
>>
>>28950651
>wrenchlet finally realises that you can turn anything into a bolt head with a grinder

You could literally grind that sucker down until it fits a socket with tighter tolerances than a store bought bolt.
>>
>>28950663
You don't need a dust shield especially on a car that shitty.
please replace the shocks and axle.
