are JLR products actually that bad?

Had a Discovery 4 as a family car for a long time. 2.7 TDV6.
The 3L V6s blow up cranks with no reason. The 2.7s the torque converter fails. Myriad electrical issues. Hard on suspension bushings too, they're heavy cars. Every service was expensive due to required maintenance beyond a regular service.
Absolutely phenomenal car to drive, so comfy, good power, towed easily. Were it not crashed into we'd still have it.
It's the sort of thing that if you get a good one, it's pretty good, but still more maintenance than most other brands. If you get a bad one it'll send you broke very quickly.

I've only seen one vehicle go up in flames without being involved in an incident.
It was a Range Rover.

Probably the worst followed closely by Mercedes and BMW.

Yes. Don't buy Indian.

If you buy new and under warranty? Go for it, very comfy, great to drive, full of bells and whistles. People will think you're a sugar baby or drug dealer tho.

Sometimes they're money pits, sometimes they're fine. I've driven mine daily for about 9 years. Bought it used knowing it needed the rear dif rebuilt but I did my research ahead of time and factored that into the low sale price. Apart from that up front and regular maintenance stuff I've had to replace the starter, vapor canister, PCV valve, and fuel rail sensor. That seems reasonable to me for a car from 2008. The last time I had it in a specialist shop a few years ago they told me the diagnostic module was bricked and I should sell it, but I plan to keep driving it for as long as it keeps passing smog and I can sort out the hiccups with Google. I will miss it when it finally dies on me. I don't think I'd trust the newer models from after Tata took over.
