GM. The GMT800 platform alone is better than pretty much anything Ford has ever shat out. Sadly your best bet for a new truck is probably a Ford.

GMT800 is trash.
Electrical system is Favella tier (lol printed circuit boards in taillights)
Plastic everywhere (plastic door handles inside & out- you WILL replace all of them multiple times)
ECUs are so fucking retarded they have to be calibrated for specific models.

Who gives a shit if the engine still runs when everything wrapped around it falls apart

GM with all their fuckery is still infinitely a better car company for the everyman than Ford.
You will never own a top fuel dragster let alone pilot one
You will never win Lemans let alone participate in it let alone being a spectator of it.
James may was right, paper stat autists were the demise of cars

All the plastic shit will be broken but it'll still get you to work every day or make you money every day. You can't say that about the Ford, Dodge and Toyota trucks from that era because they pretty much don't exist at this point.

You do realize Ford didnt run some boutique engine like the Indy at LeMans and they were just small block 289s, 302s and side oiler 427s, right? (289s in cars like the Daytona and 427 then 302 in the GT40s).
And im not even talking about BOSS 302s or SOHC 427s.
They were just pushrod engines that can be cloned right now.
Go ahead and post the engine in your DD and let's see its pedigree.

lol make a tally chart on your next bus ride and report back. The jellybean F150's rotted away or were mechanically totaled by a spark plug a decade ago. You only see Cummins Rams from that era. All the gassers are extinct because they rotted, blew their trannies and blew their shitty engine.

Jellybeans are still rolling around with service bodies for companies that dont want to replace them because they just keep going. Meanwhile GMT800s are relegated to Jose's lawncare with the door held closed with a piece of rope and a bogus $250 smog certificate because nothing electronic under the hood works right.
I guarantee you have more non running vehicles in your yard than running and you think thats normal (well, it is for GM)

I've owned a total of 15+ Fords and 10+ GMs. Model years from 1962-2022. Trucks and cars. It's literally just what you like or down to model and year to which one is "better" or preferred. Currently both make shit economy products and both only have a few select models and configurations that are truly good. Overall I'm a Ford guy out of the two and Ford sucks.

>>28951887
I agree with this, but with the caveat that I acknowledge some of the issues are shit that most 20+ year old vehicles have. I've owned a total of 3 GMT800s and each had electrical issues or gremlins. Everything from HVAC controllers and blend door actuators dying or getting out of calibration constantly, parasitic drains from multiple switches and modules, pigtails and wires basically disintegrating and ECU issues. Not mention crossmember and frame rot, or 4L60s being ass. People romanticize Vortecs and don't think about the rest.

Fords of the era have all the same issues though. Kinda the same realm as people praising 7.3 Powerstrokes. The motors are great but the electrical systems(especially in OBSs) are fucking ass. I bet there's a large portion of trucks that went to the landfill because there was a decent period without an option for aftermarket wiring harnesses or OE sensors with a shit aftermarket. 90s-00s electrical systems sucked but age has just made it worse.
>>28951907
I see more 10th and 11th gen F150s on the road than GMT800s, but that tracks because Ford sold millions more. Tundras had 2UZs and were a more reliable truck stock for stock. You just don't see them because Toyota only made 750k for the whole model run while there's like 6 million GMT800s.

Since I'm Ausfailian I'll talk about Australian Ford vs Holden, but imo 100% Ford. Ford Australia were using their own Ford Australia designed engines (based intech and barra) and had their own designed chassis for literally decades while Holden always just took GM partsbin engines and only in 2006 finally bothered to make their own chassis instead of using a fucking opel. Plus Ford Australia actually bothered to make their own SUV instead of importing the shittiest SUV known to man. Plus Ford smaller cars were better, The Focus and Fiesta are a million times better than the garbage Astra, Cruze and Barina.

Too bad they're both dead.

Within my circle of friends we cover most generations of fullsize trucks of the big 3.
The GM electrical problems are not normal. My GMT400 is probably the most stable (shit voltage at taillights, gauge issues, broken door handles), friends GMT800 is a gremlin factory- but those issues arent present on the Fords and Dodges.

Come on grandpa its 2026 lets move into the modern era already. Those rust free, low mileage cateye chevys? They're over $50k now. Let's get realistic with vehicle that people are actually buying.

Anyway Ford is much better these days. They have their issues but not nearly to the extent Chevy does. Their current V8 platform is an absolute disaster.

4.6 jellybeans are still on the road driven by turbo poors to hundrends and hundredsof thousands of miles. I see slightly more of those than 1500 GMT800s. Lots of 2500 GMT800s but the 1500s I see are particularly dissolved and looking rough compared to jellybeans or are pristine and imported from the south because of the cat eye meme. Even then I see more jelly beans but at weird hours like early AM, on weekends and the middle of the night. Like all the poverty trugg havers come out from and go to over night shift work or are 70+ retirees on social security.

I should clarify.
When I said "my GMT400 is the most stable" I mean I have the least issues of any other GMT400/800 within 50 miles and its still a piece of shit after being babied its entire life (was a "one owner, garage kept, only driven to church" kind of truck when I bought it).

This isnt about brand loyalty.
This is about some very dark days at GM where they dumped some absolute garbage designs on the public to make an extra 3 dollars per vehicle.
I mean, seriously.
>Taillight housings with a fucking internal printed wiring matrix film to save 3 cents on copper wire and 6 seconds plugging in the harness on the assembly line.

All 4 door handles on my '66 Ford are original (all of my Fords have original door handles).
All 4 door handles on my buddy's '99 Dodge are original.
My GMT400 is on its second set of replacements and my buddy had to swap some of his on the GMT800.
>dur hur its just door handles.
Oh your 4L60E needs a rebuild?
Just order a 3/4 shell with the seal/friction disc kit because I guarantee its cracked.

The issues are never ending.
>>
>>28953501
Why do you people always make the biggest deal out of the smallest shit? Oh no the dash and the door handles crack!!!! So use a dash pad and don't hamfist the door handles. Do you know how to avoid the 4L60E issues all together? Buy a 3/4 ton...

Instrument cluster doesnt work on the GMT400
Well, the speedometer works sometimes- the more you drive it, the more it works.
Had to install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge because fixing the gremlins costs more than i paid for the truck.
Everything still works normally on the '66 F100 and the '99 Dodge.

So according to dipshit over there-speedometer, oil pressure, engine temp, fuel level, brake lights, door handles exploding transmissions, pitman arms, door hinges, paint peel and RUST arent a big thing.

Am I on brazil4chan?
Because I just described some favella-tier trash
>>
>>28953562
Spend $300 on a rebuilt cluster or pick one of the infinite aftermarket options. Yeah most electronic shit isn't going to work in a 30+ year old truck. That's just going to happen with any manufacturer. It's a little ironic how you bring up electrical gremlins and steering component issues on a GM when you own a fucking Dodge lmao. Yeah because Dodge is known for their stellar transmissions. That's definitely the pot calling the kettle black.

I don't know what you and your clapped out 400 has to do with my original point. In the real world, not the made up utopia where you live, GMT800's outnumber every other "old" truck still on the roads. Most of these are still working hard. You can't say the same for shitty old Fords or shitty old gasser Dodges.
>>
>>28953579
>Yeah most electronic shit isn't going to work in a 30+ year old truck. That's just going to happen with any manufacturer
Huh.
Then thats so weird that my 62 yearold fuel level sending unit, gauge and voltage regulator still works.
>unlike GM, real manufacturers use a separate voltage regulator for the fuel gauge so the gauge doesnt fluctuate every time you hit a bump or encounter a grade for 10 seconds.

Crack open another beer and rage some more.
If you sperg enough I might post some data logs from my 1989 (model redacted) with a piggyback logger thats running all factory sensors, actuators, ECU, engine, transmission, diff...
>omg, how is it THAT original after 37 years?!?!
Because its not a GM product.
