Who is buick even for? GM has the plebian brand chevy and the luxury premium brand cadillac. Buick just seems too boogie for chevy buyers, and too poor people coded for cadillac buyers
Buick is for the Chinese, where they actually build new cars. It's completely vestigial to GM North America
>>28952010This.Buick.was averaging over a million units annually in China. Slowed down to about 500,000 because China is embracing EVs but thats still enough to keep the lights on.
>Buick just seems too boogie for chevy buyers, and too poor people coded for cadillac buyersIt's not about rich vs poor. It's really about old people. The average Buick buyer is even older than the average Cadillac buyer. Modern Buicks have earned the reputation of being boring, but generally premium and comfortable cars. Boomers also buy these cars thinking they're "domestic" and "made in America," but they're actually built in Korea, China, and Mexico lol. Younger people don't have these delusions, so Buick will probably get killed off in America.
>>28951999propped up by a lot of shitty chinese knock offs>>28952010>>28952041the vast majority of Buicks sold in China don't even have the better engine options available in the US and elsewhere. they are essentially cheaped down, cut rate clones. the international buicks are the "real" buicks
It's been an old person's brand for decades at this point. They are trying to pivot more towards young women, but I don't see it happening, GM marketing only ever seems to succeed by accident
>>28952804they should take cadillac sedans and make them convertibles if they want women buying buicks, and make a minivan
GM is a skyscraper. You have chevy at the 1st floor door, you know. The everyman. Then you have pontiac, which is the 2nd floor. More performance, more flare, much more emphasis on being in your face. You move up another and theres buick, a plush brand that's on a budget. For the man who can't afford a cadillac yet still wants a comfy ride. Finally the penthouse suit, this is cadillac. Say what you will but cadillac has lead by example and has caused nearly every other brand to mimick them in some way or another. Be it technology, features, gimmicks, ride qualilty, etc. Chances are cadillac did it first (for better or for worse) You buy a cadillac when you "make it" its a car brand that doesn't care what others are doing. The key difference between a cadillac and a buick aside from cost and interior material quality is the ego of its buyers. The buick owner, has very little of it. They do not care how they are perceived. The cadillac owner on the other hand, is much more haughty or grand Dios. They don't want to be seen in a buick, they want to be seen in a cadillac.Buick used to be pretty dope, but ever since 1996 with the death of the roadmaster they're just a shell of their former selves>t. Caddy owner
>>28952916My understanding of the 'GM ladder' was it went:>Chevy as your first car>Pontiac for when you're in your 20s and want something sporty>Olds for when you settle down with kids>Buick for when the kids move out>Cadillac for when you retire, as your last carIn practice I dunno how many people actually did that, but that seems to be mostly how they were positioned
They're cheap and look premium. Envision is like 27k while an Evista is 10k cheaper than an Audi equivalent.
