M3 Touring was only two seconds off pace of the M4 GT3 around the N24h race. Why is this? The M4 is lighter, it’s more aerodynamic. Well it turns out the wagon has better torsional rigidity. This and the weight gave it better mechanical grip and the tires were worked better and more balanced without overheating. They also ran more downforce and and compensated with a small power boost. It even had a passenger seat. The four door heavy machine didn’t win but let’s be honest… in the real world a big car comes with more power than a little car. It’s time for small car fags ri STFU and Neal to the new kings.
>>28953444>better torsional rigidity>the weight gave it better mechanical gripyou're basically just describing why the 4 cylinder camaro handles better than the miata, but brainlets don't get it.
>>28953444Neat that the wagon is the more rigid of the two, but does it apply to the road version too or is it just because it had a rollcage that extended further to the rear?
>>28953455It extends to the road car as well. It’s described as easier to drive and manage tires. Which can be better lap times for the non pro driver and even at the level of N24 where it’s pro am racing. The M4 is ‘better’ but the M3 touring has a lot of advantages that may be better for different people.>>28953452True. People need to get that tire tech is really good these days and you can manage 4000lbs pretty easily and you get advantages with the weight and cheap power.
>>28953444they said the m3 touring generates more downforce than regular gt3s
BMW bros, our response?
>>28953655They went too crazy with the wing angle, that's why. A traditional sedan body is better for downforce generation so they had to compensate with more wing, but it ended up working a little too well.
bring it Audi and Merc
>>28953452Remind me which car is still in production
I’ve never even heard of a 4banger cumaro. That’s how “amazing” that thing is
>>28953444wrenchlet
>>28953564>wrenchlet
>>28953444Endurance is a peculiar discipline. You don't need the fastest car to win because you're never pushing it to 100%, you're balancing between speed and reliability, and a driver good at managing that ratio in a slower car with the same reliability as a faster one can end up in front.
>>28954016>I’ve never even heard of a 4banger cumaroBecause you're a newfag zoomer
>>28953655It’s Gt3 racing so you have a window of downforce and you can adjust it as you want for each track. They ran high downforce which most teams do not do on the ring because of the long straight where you can hit top speed easily. The downforce is good for cornering but bad for straight line slowed so you want to ideally run enough downforce to drive the corner fast AND hit top speed at the end of the straight. Nurburgring however you have to choose. Part of this is strategy and part is that power and tires and build quality can compensate for extra weight these days
>>28954043>No the slow one is b-better I actually like that Chevy offers the top trim package with any engine you want though. For a guy who races cars all the time he can have a cheap fun 4cyl for driving around
>>28954043is that the same retard that calls a golf “fwd ferrari”?
>>28953452>muh weightMore weight does not equal more grip you idiot.
