A thread for us Fairlady chads to discuss all things Z related
I have replaced my 2004 z valve covers and I am about to start on some electrical gremlins Does anyone know of some obscure preventive maintenance that should be done with these 20+yo cars?

>>28953465reminder that POORsche (jewish ceo) charges 250,000$ and 10x tiguans to give you a car with bones, bmw doesnt even have the option
>>28953502>bmw doesnt even have the optionThe ultimate tire rolling machine
>>28953465this thread is made for mewas initially looking for either a s197 3v mustang; nb2/nc miata, or a mr2 spyderdrove the s197 3v right before and while it had a really fun engine it felt big and boaty, even inside i couldnt get comfortable it felt like i was swimming in it. kinda felt like buying a na/nb mx5 was too slow to track when ive had friends feeling like they're the slowest cars in stuff like mustangs/evos in a sea of rich retards in porsches/corvettes/new bmws this popped up right after checking it out, was owned by the current owner's mother since 2013 (her husband died in 2016 and it was his car). they werent car people + they were cheap (zero service records on the carfax, mismatched dry rotted 10+ year old rear tires) listed for $10,999, left with it for $9500. 2004 base 6mt with 45k miles, clean title. does look like it was repainted on the drivers side (front bumper has overspray, drivers fender/door has 220-400 micrometer thickness vs 80-100 microns on the rest of the car)
>>28953513>2004>45k milesHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>>28953513It's pretty, anon
>>28953513wheels/tires need to go asap, rear tire is a 275/35/19 front is a 235/45/19, wanna keep the front tires since theyre 3 year old conti ecs with 9-10/32nds tread but i cant find good cheap 19x9s maybe maxima wheels? definitely needs all the fluids changed, last oil change was 6/11/2019 @ 42700 miles, it mightve had another oil change between then and 45,492mi it had when i got itim gonna sell the white sti in the pic with it, want something purer + cheaper to track + more reliable long term + more fun
>>28953514i dont get it
>>28953518what im saying is they swapped the cluster anon, theres no low mileage Zs left. Sorry you got fleeced its still a very based car.
>>28953521It's probably legit anon, he's in a tucked up staye like me where cars are inspected and pass emission, which means the miles are logged every so often, and if the carfax mileage goes up to 45,000 it's likely right
>>28953521me neither, its too clean underneath to be fraud if thats the implication + low mileage zs exist all the time. w brace still has the paint on it, exhaust has some surface rusting but for a 2004 car from maryland its great. still has a good 5/6th. boomers bought these cars brand new and treated them like corvettes. it smells like a new car still, new nissans have a certain scent if youve been in them. all the touch points are still mostly there...a high mileage z looks raped and it wouldnt have 10 year old rear tires with full tread>fleecedthe only way i could get fleeced is if i paid the same amount for a auto with 2x the miles or a manual with 3x the miles, its not a BaT example but def a excellent driver
>>28953525okay okay i take it back! its a good Z
>>28953525i only gave your argument credence because the carfax has a single entry for 217k miles at a jiffy lube...then i looked up at the windshield and saw a sticker for 42k miles for the same exact date. i had my irl friends talk a lot of shit probably to rile me up lolmaryland doesnt record mileage at inspections too anyways it was this or a zzw30/nb2, right after i bought it a 2002 miata came up for $5500 in bridgeport ct with 80k miles and a 2001 mr2 spyder in astoria nyc for $6500. c'est la vieits still a lot of fun, had enough power to break the rears going into 2nd. figure this is fast enough to not be a rolling roadblock while slow enough i can learn/practice. im going to do the same as the gears/gasoline Z car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCCMWP-ndSU
>>28953525Keep the lovely stock exhaust on it and keep it beautiful, these will be collectable when not destroyed and you will have a lot more than $9500 worth of car in the future.
>>28953530>has a single entry for 217kThat's likely a clerical error at the shop, my Honda has the mileage go up and up and up to 103,000 miles where it had an oil change and they must've typod and put in 203,000 and than the mileage goes back to normal.
>>28953531>Keep the lovely stock exhaust on it and keep it beautifulstock z exhaust REALLY is nice
>>28953531i agree but they're not impossible to find with low miles. a lot of them were 2nd cars/summer cars in the northeast where they sold well. $3k more and i could get one with a little more miles but better optioned like factory vlsd/brembos. 370z existence keeps prices on z33s down like chauvin on george floyd. same amount + a little negotiation could get you into a 100-150k mile 09-13 370z but then you're risking csc + galley gasket issues. >>28953532yep, stuff like this = it'll never go on bat without getting nitpicked to deathbut it'll still be a fun street/track car. i'm gonna do a real lsd (os giken/quaife); 18x9.5s, a 200tw, z34 akebonos, and decent coils (fa510s or shaftworks) and enjoy it. it needs all new fluids, tires, maybe a radiator i smelled coolant in the bay from the front of the car. but it made a 4 hour trip home with no issues other than a bad radio (i gotta rip all that out, going for a sony xav-ax3250 and replacing the center console and stuff from another z without holes drilled into it) it does sound surprisingly good for a stock car. im not a loud car person. i like my cars quiet and my mufflers big.
i feel like 370z's are unobtanium where I live. and I live in fucking houston. At least used very very low mileage z's with the performance pack are going for ~$40k. sounds like a solid car...and the new nismos have a baffled fuel pan? sheeeeit
>spend close to 10k sorting out a Z32>give it to my brother>endless questions and phone calls every day on how to solve an issue like throttle position sensor, coolant system, HICAS, boost leaks, etcNever really thought about how much of an autism magnet these cars were, no wonder my wife hated it.
>>28953542The problem is guys have it in their had thay Jap car=I'll never have to do anything to this motherfucker, and it is reliable but it's also an old car, be prepared to replace shit and reseal things plus who knows whatever else.
>>28953530Nice purchase anon, I hope your fairlady treats you well Watch out for the z cover on the rear strut, I accidentally shattered mine lifting luggage and they are a little expensive for an oem replacement
The 300ZX TT was the last Z car and even then people say it was a junkbox compared to the real Fairladies.
>>28953517That's a beaut. Quite an odd choice of extreme stagger, obviously meant for straightline accel sure, but on streets in a car that can hook at 3k?Anyways I'm not jealous.
>>28953649300zx 2+2 or true 2 seater?
The older 300zx looks pretty cool, does it have the same loathsome engine as the newer one?
>>28953671The top trim z32 can push 400hp/400tq all day from a stock engine on 91/93 octane. Change the intercoolers and injectors and you can almost hit 500 on e85.It"s not impressive stock, it's a slightly faster v6 chally basically.
>>28953677>slightly faster v6 challypentastar rather fucks the vq thoughbeit
>>28953678It only took 12 years for them to catch up haha
>>28953671It's a 3.0TTv6 like the Z32 but it came from the q50/60
>>28953678The car you're replying to had a vq30tt in it, the g35 had the vg35 pulled from the 350z a more appropriate comparison in any case would have been a 370z given how much newer your rental spec shitbox is but then you would be short 30-50 horses
>>28953700the graph i posted is of a VQ37 compared to a pentastar and you can clearly see that the pentastar makes more power and torque thru the powerband while the vq revs only 500 rpm higher, giving it a very slightly higher hp number on paper that is functionally irrelevant irl.
>>28953705Don't forget the chally is lugging around another 150lb.Given how close the lines are the weight is going to make a bigger difference than the max differential of 5ish hp through the band.
>>28953716>the chally is lugging around another 150lbso what i'm hauling around your 400 lb mother too
>>28953720That's unfortunate for you. Not only forced to be seen in a basketball american's cuckbox sedan but then choosing to associate with such a thing. I can only hope you aspire to greater things in life.
>>28953724>forced to be seen in a basketball american's cuckbox sedanbut enough about the nissan g35 4-door
>>28953725Yeah this is a thread about Z cars. They never had more than 2 doors and a hatch.
>>28953726then why are they so pigfat and slow?
>>28953727Because they were made for the American market. Closer to a mustang than they are to a proper sports car. Even the new one despite making 400hp withholds boost unless you tune it and has overly soft suspension and excessive body roll
>>28953732>americans are the reason every car on the FM platform has a 55:45 weight distribution, styling like a shitting dog, and an engine that sounds like a paint mixerskill issue
>>28953737It is though. The concept car that became the 350z was made by the american design team and they had to make a more powerful engine to haul its bloated ass because the ka24 wasnt strong enough.
>nooo the americans fuck up my shitty supotsu cah oooh it pigfat like carifonyan*proceeds to build the exact same car unchanged for 20 years and three generations*
>>28953744They actually took it back with the RZ34, The new gen was designed by the japs again. Probably why it is less fat looking despite being made on a shoestring budget.
>>28953753>"Revised" Z34ok so it's exact same car but with applel carplay and a plastic engine who gives a fuck
>>28953760me
>>28953760What are you comparing it against? The supra is a BMW and dead because they're not making the Z4 anymore.Camaro is deadChallenger is an EV, The S650 mustang is a carbon copy of the S550You could get an M2 if you want to deal with bmw's bullshit or a BRZ if you want to pop your engine on a hard turn.
>>28953765>whataboutism
>>28953767Its a valid question. If you had the money to buy a real coupe what would you do? I swear to your god anon if you bring up your detroit suburb tier 4 door eco box again
>>28953678I am not sure why you would bother posting this, its not like it mattersI dont think anyone is choosing between those options and going to make a decision based on that, are you genuinely retarded?
>car's name is literally white woman
>>28953698I guess its just the NA ones that are sad and slowThose z35's look like so much fun, what are they like to drive?
26 heritageinstalled intakes, catch can and exhaustAlready planning on installing sway bars the next time i have to change the oil. what brand of coil overs should i look at for this thing?
>>28953768why would i buy an ugly jap piece of shit that looks like a shitting dog when i could drive the sexiest automobile ever?>but muh cd009zf8>*>but muh vqpentastar>*>but muh car, japanwowow
>>28953773when youre under 3k rpm and out of boost it behaves like an altima, compared to the 5L mustang i had before its an absolute sweetheart. It has a stupid amount of body roll and overall its softer than id like so i need to look into fixing that but the handling is more consistent and the steering is more communicative than the mustang was. itll never handle as well as a gr86 but its like 800lb heavier and makes more than 150hp more so its a solid trade. Its just as fast as my mustang was on a rolling pull, and if i get decent tires for it that will actually lock up and then tune it so itll boost to 20psi or so instead of giving up at 15psi it will be quite a bit faster.
>>28953778>Automatic>V6 when the chassis was built for a v8>Sedan built on a 25 year old mercedes chassisanon either you are an actual retard or you are so deep in denial there is no help for you.
brother you're 24 years old, get a job already
>>28953793the owner of a g35 sedan doesnt need a job, they just welfare and skip payments until the bank comes to reclaim their $4k shitbox
>>28953784>the absolute drop dead best transmission in the entire world bar none>LX platform was intentionally designed around the 250hp LH V6 from the beginning so that later more powerful engines would be more fun>same amount of doors, double the cargo capacity of a Z>looks like hot sex and sounds like it tooyet you drive the car that looks like a pooping dog and sounds so terrible it makes me look bad
>>28953799Not a single statement included in this post is true.
>>28953802thanks for your capitulation. fortunately everything in my post is true.here's another fun fact: in the late '00s Cerberus wanted to cancel the Pheoenix (Pentastar) program and buy VQs instead, so the Pentastar was internally benchmarked against Nissan's engines and specifically designed to be superior to them.Nissan = scum
>>28953805bragging about being passed around like a cheap whore immediately prior to bankrupting is an interesting take anon.
>>28953808what are you talking aboutchrysler, in the middle of a global recession, while bankrupt and trying to pay the government back its loans, built one of the best engines of all time that singlehandedly pulled it back from the brink of collapse. you don't see Ferrari gaping out a VQ to 120 degrees and winning Le Mans with it.
>>28953812As you say, even when nissan is out of money it isnt going door to door getting its holes gaped by Italians. You're really on a roll here,
>>28953816>it isnt going door to door getting its holes gaped by Italianssays the man driving a fucking samsung-renault
>>28953819mitsubishi is pretty much a corpse and post ghosn theres no central leadership to renault partnership anymore. hence why the jap government was trying to get Honda to merge with Nissan.
>>28953812When did Chrysler make a boxer?
>>28953822you're basically looking at it, the F163 is a development of the F160 which is literally just a Pentastar block with some different heads and rerouted oil cooling. the F163's Pentastar influence is clearly seen in the presence of the prominent coolant crossover and oil/water cooler mounted in the vee of the engine.
>>28953822120 degrees is still a v6 not a flat-6
>>28953822Chrysler didnt make it. Maserati did.
>>28953846incorrectThe F160 blocks were machined in Kokomo, Indiana by Chrysler before being sent to Ferrari for final assembly. They have Maserati covers on the heads, but the engine is assembled by Ferrari.
>>28953771engaging the chally autist is like picking a fight with the schizo hobo downtowna waste of time and a great way to derail the topicjust yes him off and keep it moving
>>28953854wouldn't be a problem if you casual carlet turbofags didn't argue bullshit you know nothing about
>>28953834Aight my bad G, didn't know it was a 180°, looked like a boxer at a quick glance. Then again should've known because Ferrari.>>28953831>>28953846Oh, so it's not a Chrysler engine, just that the block is machined by Chrysler.
>>28953781its better than the mustang but the body roll is pretty bad on track, nismo apparently fixes that. It's fast af even stock though
sup fags.i just want to say FUCK YOU for being able to fit into a Z.these things have been my dream cars forever but once I was old enough to pilot one I was already 6'8".I'll never recover from this. I just want to die and respawn as a manlet, unironically
>>28953892I shilled out for the nismo intakes and exhaust on mine but have been on the fence about continuing to pay the premium for stuff that won't even be seen. SPL makes the nismo branded suspension components but I'm not sure if there's a difference between what's available in the catalog and what Nissan is making the nismos with.
>>28953896I had sort of the opposite problem. Being only 5'7 meant that in my mustang I couldn't push the clutch all the way to the floor and have the steering wheel in a comfortable position. I could push past the bite easily but keeping it pushed in was a concerted effort. The Z just fits me better. The GR86 fit fine too but that cars tight gearing made it a miserable freeway car.
>>28953678Wow great amazing but I was talking about the Z32 300ZX twin turbo VG30DETT not the Wheeze-Q
>>28953467Speaking of valve covers, do y'all torque them to a specific spec or just snug?
>>28953931
>>28953781I need to go sit in one. Seem like comfy cars with some power. Want something fun but won’t rattle my spine over bumps
>>28953671then only zs i don't like are the 350 and 370something about em, even on release of the 350 turned me offmaybe i was but hurt my friend had a nice z31 when i had a clapped out crx
I wanna sell my 04 z with 185k km on it and buy a prelude either 4th or 5th gen. Would this be retarded?
>>28953778Why would you whine like a little bitch about numbers on a forum instead of going out for a drive?I guess you only have a racing bench that came with graphs huh short bus rider
>>28953937Always torque to spec IMO
>>28954197Whats the motivation to go from sports car to sporty compact? The prelude is front wheel drive.. although they look very cool
>>28954211Just haven't been driving like a retard as much on a Friday night like I used and idk I guess the>wow I actually own a 350z! has faded after 4 years. Some minor things annoy me now. I like the way a prelude looks, one of the main reasons although being cheaper to run and maintain is a +
>>28954218Is your z auto tragic? I have had mine for 5 years and I am thinking about modifying or if I would be better off just getting a c5 corvette instead A v10 engine swap would be perfect but my cuntry has a nanny state government :T
Has anyone done any esthetic mods?
